Carmen funebre is a very moving and impressive show full of emotions and surprises confirming all we expect from street theatre. It is a pity that the English National Theatre has decided to ask the public to pay to see the show. What should have been an amazing piece of free theatre was transformed into a confidential rendez-vous in a sad courtyard surounded by more unecessary and probably expensive security staffs and NT staff than theatre lovers. Square2 is the worst version of outdoor theatre festival I have ever seen. Street artists have lost their souls. Where was the spontaneity of the uncontroled crowd? I believe-listening to the speaker at the end of the show that evening- that I am about to be right. He was asking us to bring friends and family for the 3 remaining evenings!
