The stage is set for the 70th anniversary commemorations that will pay tribute to the sacrifice and heroism of those who took part in the Battle of Britain.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Battle of Britain Memorial site at Capel-le-Ferne this Sunday, 11 July, to take part in what is expected to be the biggest ever Memorial Day.

Among those attending the event, which begins at midday, is the Patron of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

Organisers say there will be a flypast by Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The failure of Germany to overcome Britain's air defences in the Summer and Autumn of 1940, is considered one of the crucial turning points in the Second World War.
