Two passengers are missing and 42 have been injured after two boats carrying Thai and foreign tourists collided in the Gulf of Thailand. Four of the injured tourists are Britons

The boats were ferrying tourists to Koh Pha Ngan on the way to a popular island beach party, police said.

The 'full moon' party takes place on the island, 670 miles south of Bangkok, every month and attracts thousands of young, mostly Western tourists.

The boats collided and overturned, throwing passengers into rough waters.

Provincial police officer Adipong Tapee said of the 42 revellers injured, 39 were taken to hospital on the mainland in Surat Thani province.
