Japanese Self-Defense Forces Entertain Haitian Orphans

On Wednesday, Japanese self-defense forces in Haiti participated in a cultural exchange program.
The forces had been in the area repairing approximately two-and-a-half miles of road damaged in the January 12 earthquake.
The forces performed Judo, a traditional form of martial art, for children at one orphanage.
The participants say it was a rewarding experience.

"I would like to see the smiles of children in Haiti. And I would like to share culture."
Fukunaga says his forces will continue working in the area near the Dominican border.

"We will start preparing the ground next to the orphanage school next week. And we will also continue removing debris and repairing roads.”
Japanese forces have been in Haiti since February and are part of the multinational effort to help the Caribbean nation recover from the devastating earthquake early this year.
