Facebook has announced it will make it easier to change privacy settings but the default will still promote data sharing.

Founder and Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said his company would make more effort to guard the privacy of its users.

The site is going to make it easier for people to change their privacy settings but Facebook still want users to obtain information about each other.

"User use the service because they love sharing information," Zuckerberg said. "People perceive that as we don't care about privacy, but that's absolutely not true... There is a balance."

Among the changes that the social networking site will introduce is blocking all third-party applications providers from accessing their information.

It will also make less information available in its user directory.
