Ash clouds caused by volcanic eruption in Iceland continue to cause headaches for air travelers. In India, passengers were left stranded at airports across the country with flights to Europe being cancelled.

Air travelers are stranded in airports across India today as a new surge in volcanic activity in Iceland begins.

In Mumbai, Air India cancelled two London-bound flights, while Kingfisher cancelled all its flights to Heathrow Airport.

The black clouds also shut other major airports in Europe including Schipol and Rottredam in Holland, Gatwick and London, as well as flights to and fro from Ireland and Scotland.

[Malvin Antao, Air Passenger]: (English)
"We are all together, five of us traveling to London. But unfortunately at the last moment the flights have been cancelled. We are waiting for the confirmation since morning. And now they are telling us that we'll provide you with a ticket to go there but not with a return ticket."

Europe's skies became no-fly zone for up to a week in April, following the eruption of one of Iceland's volcanoes. It’s the biggest shut down of Europe’s airspace in the last 50 years.
