The Sher-I-Kashmir cricket stadium in Srinagar City is undergoing a major renovation.

For the past 20 years the stadium pavilion has been home to security forces.

Farooq Abdullah is the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and a governing member of the Indian Premier League.

Abdullah wants the renovations completed in time for the next cricket season so that matches can be organized in the Kashmir Valley.

New pavilions and dressing rooms for cricketers are under construction.

[Ghulam Rasool, Site Engineer]: Urdu
"Almost ninety percent of our work is complete. We will construct four to five pavilions."

[Ghulam Muhammad, Official, Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Assoc.]: Urdu/English
"In the past twenty years, we have only this pavilion, which was occupied by the security forces. Last year they vacated the pavilion, so the association has decided to expand the pavilion from both sides."

The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has hosted only a few first-class matches in the past 20 years.

The last one-day cricket match in Srinagar was played back in 1986 against Australia.
