Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship brings stranded Brits home

After a dramatic initiation to the UK at the start of this week, the Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship, which has not yet even been officially named, sailed victoriously up the Solent today to return 2,200 stranded British tourists home from Bilbao, Spain (approx 5pm, Friday 23rd April).

The 122,000 tonne ship, which was scheduled to arrive in the UK early on Tuesday for a week of inaugural launch celebrations, had a sudden change of plan just a few hours after her arrival and set off on a rescue mission to Spain to pick up 2,200 holiday makers stranded by the volcanic ash cloud.

At approx 4pm today, the crowds of weary tourists aboard the £500 million vessel finally got a glimpse of the UK coastline as Celebrity Eclipse made her way towards the Southampton dock to allow her first official passengers to disembark.
