Powerful Bomb Blast in Northwest Pakistan
  • 14 years ago
The blast from a remotely-controlled bomb in north west Pakistan was so powerful it brought down the roof of a nearby school.

Three U.S. soldiers helping to train paramilitary forces were among the dead.

A Pakistani paramilitary soldier and three children were also killed.

Police say at least 45 people have been wounded in the attack.

There were fears that more could be buried under the rubble.

The attack happened in Dir in the Swat Valley, an area largely cleared of insurgents in a major offensive last year.

The latest bloodshed highlights the resilience of Taliban militants trying to topple the government of Pakistan's pro-American president.
