Pattaya International Bed Race 2010

Every year, Thailand’s top tourist destination of Pattaya prepares its 90 mile beach road for its very own international bed race.

The organizers hope this event will help promote Pattaya as a family destination.

[Niels Colov, Bed Race Organizer]:
"Pattaya International Bed Race 2010 is to show that Pattaya has a lot to offer. It has more than the stereotype of being a beer bar city that lonely guys came and looked for girls and so on. It's becoming in the last five years family a destination."

Nevertheless, some participants were drunk by the time they reached the finishing line.

[Steve Sprat, Bed Race Participant]:
"I feel great. It's the most exercise we have had in years."

[Tony Ryan, Bed Race Participant]:
"We had plenty of pit stops. We had only about 35 minutes last time, but we needed a few more pit stops this time. Not enough drink was consumed. We couldn't get the legs going. But the sleeping was great."

The money raised from the race will go to a local charity that helps underprivileged students in the city.
