The Lockerbie bomber has left prison after being released to die with his family in LibyaAbdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, who has terminal cancer, was driven from Greenock prison in a white van escorted by three police cars, another van and five motorcycles. The convoy set off on the 16-mile journey to Glasgow airport, where a jet was waiting to return him to Tripoli, after he was released on compassionate grounds by Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill. Mr MacAskill reached his decision despite coming under intense pressure from America to keep al-Megrahi behind bars.
