Birmingham City’s 2024-2025 season has shown promising signs, with a revitalized squad and strong performances in both league and cup competitions. However, while their ambition for silverware remains, they face tough challenges from higher-ranked teams.
If they maintain consistency and avoid key injuries, they could have a solid chance, particularly in domestic cups where upsets are more frequent.

00:00Charlie, looking at Birmingham City and let's just touch on the EFL trophy. Obviously, they've
00:07progressed in the FA Cup as well with an amazing tie against Newcastle at St Andrews. But in
00:13terms of other trophies, I mean, it's a sort of season that Blues will certainly be focusing
00:19on League One and getting promotion. But if they can go far in a trophy and maybe reach
00:25the higher ends of the FA Cup with the EFL trophy, of course, it would be quite incredible
00:30for the fans as well to just see that progression under these new owners. Let's start with the
00:37EFL trophy. It's obviously a competition that doesn't get much of a looking outside the
00:40championship. I mean, they are in a good position. Could they go on and win that as well if they
00:47are to win League One? It would be quite brilliant for the club. What do you sort of think their
00:52approach should be to this competition? Yeah, as you say, it's not a high-reputation competition,
00:58but it would be silverware nonetheless if they can go and win it. And they are the favourites
01:01to do just that. Basically, Swindon Town in the third round, a decent performance there,
01:07a very late winner. It was a very good performance as well from Ayuma Yokoyama, the young Japanese
01:12winger. Hasn't really had much of a look in so far on the Chris Davies, but in this competition,
01:17he seems to shine. Goals in the Cisca Law and a very good finish as well to open the
01:22scoring in that game at Swindon. Away into the quarterfinals now. The draw hasn't taken
01:27place just yet, but Birmingham will be looking forward to that match. As I say, they are
01:32the favourites for the competition. The teams remaining in it are the likes of Cheltenham,
01:36Bolton, Rotherham, Bradford and Peterborough. Wrexham still to play, still to discover whether
01:41they will be in that quarterfinal stage. But if he gets the final, you get to play at Wembley,
01:47which I think would be such an amazing day out for Birmingham fans. Myself as well as
01:51a reporter being there, I think it'd be great to see such a big club that hasn't been in
01:55this position for, well, since a decade since they were in the Carabao Cup final. So I think
02:01it's very good for morale, as I say, that in line with the promotion to the championship,
02:05which is boosting so much at St Andrews and you get the belief back that they can get
02:09back to the big time in the Premier League.
02:12Yeah, and just on the League One promotion race, it's obviously a real talking point.
02:17Wrexham, you know, Wickham are up there as well. The playoff race is fairly tight with
02:23the top six. So much attention around that game with the likes of David Beckham, for
02:27example. I mean, this is a huge game. And what do you sort of see coming out of this one?
02:33Birmingham fans will be expecting another win, completing the double over Wrexham. Obviously,
02:37it seems to be the big rivalry, at least on the Hollywood end of things. So lots of anticipation
02:42and excitement around that. The television crews will be very much in attendance once
02:46again. We'll have to see which Hollywood and A-style guests are in attendance. But in terms
02:50of footballing sense, Birmingham would love to get an advantage. They've still got games
02:54in hand and they can really make the gap insurmountable if they get a win at the racecourse.
