The Boston Bruins have their first come-from-behind win of the 2024-25 season. Joey Copponi and Rob Tocci sit down to discuss if this win changes the overall perception of this team, which - spoiler alert - it does not. Joey and Rob break down the team's biggest issues, the continued struggles on special teams, Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark's reunion, the apparent injury to Hampus Lindholm after blocking a shot, the general disdain in Boston (and around the league) for Jordan Binnington, and more.

Plus, the guys debate the decision the Bruins made to send Matt Poitras down to Providence. All that, and much more!

00:00Welcome back to Bear with me, the Boston Bruins are now eight, seven and two and that's good
00:21enough for third in the Atlantic, seventh in the Eastern Conference and 13th in the
00:25National Hockey League.
00:26My name is Joey Capone.
00:27That's Rob Tocci.
00:28Rob, how are you doing?
00:30I'm doing good.
00:31Knowing that we're brought to you by prize picks, the exclusive advantage partner of
00:34the CLNS media network and brought to you by game time tickets.
00:37The best place to buy tickets online and sports concerts are your favorite events in the Boston
00:41Bruins.
00:42Won a game, their first comeback win of the year.
00:47Was it really?
00:48That was their first comeback win of the year.
00:50It really felt like it.
00:52That's why I was thinking I missed one, but I was like, have we come from behind yet?
00:58Not by a single goal.
01:00Uh, which to reiterate what we just said before we started recording, I thought this game
01:03was over when it was one to nothing.
01:07I texted you after that first goal and I said, Hey, is this over?
01:11And I went, yeah, I think so.
01:12Yup.
01:13Probably.
01:14And then when it was two to nothing, which it might as well be 10 to nothing for this
01:19team lately.
01:20When it was 2-0, you texted me and said, can we just record during the third period?
01:26I did.
01:27I wanted to record when we started the third period.
01:30Dude, it's getting late.
01:32Like who cares?
01:33I'm not staying up to watch them lose and like have an accurate depiction of the third
01:37period.
01:38It doesn't matter.
01:39It's the same thing's going to happen.
01:40And then they scored three goals in the third period, came back and won the game in regulation.
01:44They heard me talking shit.
01:45It would have been pretty funny if we'd recorded a full episode about them sucking and then
01:48we had to do like a 45 second like yearbook add on being like, Oh, you know, they're not
01:55so bad.
01:57You know, we were joking in the first 40 minutes of this show.
02:00We got you.
02:01You fell for it.
02:03It is funny that our reaction to this team is a hard negative or positive based on like
02:10which side of the regulation win loss 500 line they are.
02:19Like when they are under it, we're like, fuck them.
02:23They're terrible.
02:24When they're at 500, we're like, what's going on?
02:27And when they are now one game over talking regulation wins and losses one game over,
02:33we're like, hey, play like that.
02:36There you go.
02:37That third period.
02:38It's a lot of shots on net special teams.
02:41They still, Hey, they're going to figure it out.
02:43Like, I know exactly what we're going to say on this show.
02:45And it had that, you know, had this game gone to overtime and they lost.
02:49We're not talking like this at all.
02:52Quick question for you.
02:53Does it come from behind victory feel better for you if they win in regulation or if they
02:57win in overtime?
03:01You know, I think like for the drama you're saying, like, where does my heart either one
03:06does any, does either of them feel better for you?
03:08I mean, sure.
03:09I don't like to give up points, so I don't like other teams getting points in any capacity.
03:17But I mean, you're talking about a Western Conference team.
03:19Like it doesn't matter at all, really.
03:22But I, for the drama, I love me a good overtime.
03:25NHL overtime is awesome.
03:26NHL overtime is one of the best things in sports, but it is great.
03:30I do think there's something more empowering and more embarrassing for the other team where
03:37you can beat them in regulation.
03:39Yeah.
03:40So in a way, it's like we look, we just needed the 60 and in the Bruins case, we just needed
03:45the last 20.
03:46I mean, there are, there are three scenarios to go into overtime, either to zero zero game,
03:51in which case send both teams home, a zero zero overtime game, you'd need, nobody gets
03:56any points.
03:57Go home.
03:58It's over.
03:59In my mind, that's it.
04:00That's what I would change.
04:02Or I mean, the other two options are you either forced overtime or you allowed overtime.
04:08So I mean, to be the team that forces it is obviously better.
04:12So if they're going into overtime, I would prefer them to be the coming from behind team.
04:16All right.
04:17How about that?
04:18How about that diplomatic ass answer?
04:21It was pretty good.
04:23People are saying this about the NFL, and I'm going to say this about the Bruins, even
04:30though they just won this game because they played 20 minutes of good hockey.
04:37It doesn't matter.
04:38I know they got a lot of shots.
04:39They got a whole mess of shots.
04:41Doesn't change the fact that they played ugly hockey.
04:44The NFL has a problem with creating a good product right now.
04:51People are regularly saying about NFL games that the product is lacking.
04:57It's just not a good product right now.
04:59And I couldn't help for 80% of this game to feel like the exact same way about the Boston
05:05Bruins, to be like that.
05:07That same thing is here where it's just not a good television product because that's what
05:11sports are.
05:12It's not a television show.
05:14And it's weird to say this after I come from behind win, but it's been so regular and it's
05:19also been a little while since we did the show.
05:22So this kind of a cumulative thing over the last 11 periods, you know, negating the third
05:26period of this game where it's like, man, this is not, you guys aren't putting a good
05:31product out here.
05:32It's hard to watch sometimes.
05:34Yeah, I would agree with that.
05:36I've been saying the most frustrating thing about this Bruins team is it's not enjoyable
05:42to watch them.
05:43It's one thing if the games are close and you're, even if you are losing a string of
05:49them, at least be in it, at least be entertaining, at least be scoring goals and big saves here
05:55and there and big hits here and there, you know, just make it an entertaining hockey
05:58product.
05:59Give me the full gambit of what I can experience in a hockey game.
06:03Have not been getting that.
06:05So I mean, you can take the Senators loss, you could look at the Leafs loss, just a lot
06:11of games where you're just like, you find yourself, the game's not even halfway over
06:15and you're like, I don't want to keep watching this.
06:18Even like today, like I wasn't like super jazzed about sitting down to watch this game.
06:23I'm very glad I didn't.
06:24And like as soon as puck drops, like you're into it, it's just leading up to it.
06:28But yeah, the product that the Bruins have been putting out on the ice has been lacking.
06:33So for them to now come out with their first come from behind victory of the year and to
06:38do so with a pretty damn good third period, I think it was someone who was like, Oh, this
06:45is a lot of people are like, this is the game.
06:47You're going to look back in April and be like, you turned it around.
06:49Like we said that about the Toronto and we said that about the Calgary win.
06:54We keep saying that about every win in the last three weeks.
06:56We're like, here we go.
06:58And then the loss before it was like, that was rock bottom.
07:01It's like getting shut up by the Flyers, losing like eight to nothing or whatever the fuck
07:04it was.
07:05Eight to one.
07:06It's like we have like four rock bottoms and four turning point games.
07:12And we've played what, uh, 16 games, 17 games, 17 games.
07:17So half the games are either it's over or back.
07:21It's a turning point.
07:22Yeah.
07:23It's a turning point game half of the time.
07:24And I'll tell you, it hasn't, nothing's turned.
07:26It's just there.
07:27I don't know if you heard, uh, they're, they're basically in the middle of the division, middle
07:33of the conference, middle of the league.
07:36It's it's where they're, where they are.
07:38That's what, it's what they are right now.
07:40So I don't know.
07:42I can't really buy that.
07:43I was watching the new, uh, Red Sox documentary that's on Netflix.
07:47And uh, you know, they go through the whole Oh four season.
07:52And they, they talk about like the Veritech A-Rod fight.
07:55And they're like, you know, all the guys are saying like, and that's when we knew that's
08:00when we turned, that's when we turned a corner and we started whatever.
08:02And like, that was really a turning point for us.
08:05And then I think it was, uh, Theo, Theo Epstein was like, uh, yeah.
08:11He says that was like the turning point.
08:13Like they lost like seven of their next 10, like they, it wasn't, we like to look back
08:18and be like, Oh wow.
08:19We like that.
08:20Would they really turn it?
08:21No.
08:22So like, and people really want that moment.
08:24People yearn for the moment where they're like, Oh, well now, now the tides are going
08:28to turn.
08:29It's not going to turn until they have like four consecutive good games.
08:33You don't even wins, but like win three out of four and they look good in all of them.
08:38And like this, it's great.
08:40This is great for the standings, but like, I can't look at this game as a whole and be
08:43like, this was a good win, a gutsy win.
08:46They needed this one.
08:47Yeah.
08:48I'm sure it's good for morale, but from a performance standpoint, I'm not walking away
08:53being like, Oh, they, they fixed it.
08:54Like the, I don't, what's the final tally on special teams in this game?
09:00Not great.
09:01Um, the blues were what?
09:06Two for three.
09:07Oh, for four blues, one, two for three.
09:10So still no power play calls.
09:11I mean, not still.
09:12No power.
09:13Yeah.
09:14Over four.
09:15But I mean, that's like the tail of the tape right now.
09:17It's like the special teams look abysmal.
09:19Yeah.
09:20And the power play is obnoxious.
09:22Two goals that St. Louis scored came off of Austin offensive zone, stick infractions from
09:27Kevin and pasta, where they just like threw their stick into somebody's face.
09:32I thought Billy Jaffe was going to go down to Missouri and throat punch everyone on that
09:37team.
09:38He was so fucking mad.
09:39I'm glad other people noticed it.
09:40He was so mad.
09:41He was fired up.
09:42Dude, he's an animated guy.
09:44Like he definitely like raises his voice, but like he was like genuinely pissed off,
09:48but the quality of play, dude, not only were, uh, both of those penalties, offensive zone
09:54stick infractions, but the two goals nearly identical.
09:59It's backdoor tap ins.
10:00Like didn't even like the type of goal that like I could probably score a decent percentage
10:07of the time.
10:08Well, I'll tell you why you could do it because they were fucking uncontested.
10:11Correct.
10:12There is.
10:13Well, that's what taking that into account, even when they're in front of me, even with
10:16nobody in front of me, it's still a coin toss.
10:18But I mean, it's just bad.
10:21Every single angle of both of those goals is like, where is anyone?
10:25What does anyone do?
10:26Everyone's doing the like, like flat stick hunchback, like, oh, try to get in the passing
10:31lanes thing.
10:32And it it doesn't seem to be working, fellas.
10:35It doesn't seem to be working.
10:37It's uh, I don't know because the thing is, if this team, this team played a little more
10:44solid defense and had average special teams, it's a good team.
10:50If the Bruins power play was average right now, we would be not talking about firing
10:55Montgomery.
10:57We wouldn't be so downtrodden if their power play converted like 5% more of the time we
11:02would be in a better position.
11:05Well, if you think the Bruins power play is going to turn it around, if you want to go
11:12see him, no, no, not yet.
11:15If you think they're going to turn it around, fuck, and you want to put your money where
11:20your mouth is, dude, then you can go see him.

13:08Got some other news from tonight.
13:10There's a new segment called news from tonight.
13:13It's called news.
13:14It's called news.
13:16It's called Bruins talk, Geeky, Morgan Geeky scored his first goal of the season, which
13:23is stunning.
13:24That.
13:25Yeah, sorry.
13:26Go ahead.
13:27It's stunning in both directions.
13:30Stunning that he hasn't scored up to this point.
13:32Just like if you're just tuning in, if you're waking up out of a coma, you'd be like, wow,
13:3417 games for Morgan Geeky to get a goal.
13:37Also stunning that it happened because it did.
13:39There was no signs that it was coming.
13:41No.
13:44And that was to make it two to one.
13:47I was like, hmm, you know, I think pasta score is there.
13:51You're like, yeah, like he's do he's you know, he was due for one and whatever.
13:56But like scoring felt a little special.
13:58I was like, if you're getting a goal from the person least likely to score a goal, then
14:02someone more likely to score a goal is probably also going to score a goal.
14:06That's just math like David, like David or even Charles.
14:14Very good game from both Chuck.
14:17Well, I was a good game from Chuck pasta was still did his pasta stuff here and there.
14:25He had the primary stick.
14:27He did have the high stick that stuck out to me a lot.
14:30Just pretty lazy with a stick.
14:32But you know, it's hard to talk shit about the guy who just cemented the comeback win
14:35with and is leading the team in goals assists.
14:38His one timer hit Jordan Bennington in the nuts and then it went in the net.
14:41I cannot.
14:42I couldn't in my my hockey fantasy mind couldn't conjure a better goal to score.
14:49The one that makes Jordan Bennington feel physical pain in his cojones.
14:54Unless a player could make some moves, unless a puck could hit Jordan Bennington and Matthew
14:59could show testicles.
15:01I don't I don't think that there's a better like Bruins fan porn goal than trying to imagine
15:07the position they would have to be in first speed.
15:11They're just they're they're both facing the net bent over.
15:14I'm going to need a diagram here.
15:16Hold on.
15:17I don't have any dolls nearby.
15:20Other news from tonight, Hampus Lindholm, a more somber note, it's OK to cry.
15:26Hampus Lindholm took a puck off his left knee.
15:30He came out of the game, did not come back, hobbled off, looked to be in a lot of pain.
15:36And also, I mean, listen, I saw the replay about 45 times.
15:40It to me just looks like it hit his shin pad.
15:42Maybe I'm totally missing it.
15:43I'm going to go look.
15:44I slowed it down, zoomed it in on the clip that I made, and it goes off like a few inches
15:49above his left knee.
15:51It's above his knee.
15:52It's like it's like just above his knee.
15:54It's not on his knee, but it's like probably close enough where it still hurt his knee.
15:59I mean, I would rather it hit his knee.
16:02Yeah.
16:04But yeah, unfortunately, now the Bruins find themselves without Hampus Lindholm for presumably
16:09at least the next game.
16:12And Andrew Peake is still out week to week, which I don't know that we've we've recorded
16:15since that was announced.
16:18So Andrew Peake is out week to week.
16:20And as fun as that is to say, it's not fun to hear.
16:23Yeah, I guess it is above his knee.
16:27That's weird.
16:28It's all up in there.
16:30This is weird.
16:32It's also point blank.
16:34I didn't realize just how close the shot is there.
16:37That's yeah, Hampus is like at the dash.
16:42At the hash marks and and man, the shot comes from below the top of the circle.
16:48It's it's six feet away.
16:51That's OK.
16:52All right.
16:53Well, Hampus Lindholm.
16:54Hampus Lindholm.
16:55Also out.
16:56Hampus Lindholm also out.
16:57And the tie pointed out that the Bruins did not bring an extra defenseman on the on the
17:01trip.
17:03So if they they can call somebody up for Thursday against Dallas, but if not, they'll be playing
17:10five D.
17:13But also they do they even have enough forwards to do that?
17:16Would they just be down a man because with Patragon and nobody recalled in his place,
17:20they just have, what, twelve forwards right now?
17:24Something like that.
17:25I mean, they got to call somebody up.
17:27It's weird there hasn't been a corresponding move.
17:30Yeah, like they had with Tyler Johnson getting signed, like he kind of filled like it wasn't
17:36like they're like, we're going to send you down, we're going to play 11 forwards.
17:41But I like who else do you call up?
17:44People are like, well, Max Jones, like, no, no, no.
17:49Also, we got to talk about Patra getting sent to Providence also.
17:52Yeah.
17:53Well, that's news from the week.
17:54You haven't even got that.
17:56We got another new segment.
17:57We got to.
17:58God damn it.
17:59All right.
18:00I'm going to use the last piece of news from tonight.
18:04Claude Julien alive, alive.
18:06He is alive.
18:07Everybody.
18:08Handsome Ralph is out there and he has a goatee.
18:11Yeah, it doesn't look great.
18:13It doesn't look awesome.
18:14Who wears a goatee?
18:16Well, though, me, actually, of all people, yeah.
18:22Do you not have one right now?
18:24No, it's technically no.
18:27I just call this like a swashbuckler.
18:29I don't know what I have.
18:30It's called I can't grow a lot of facial hair on the side of my face, so it just looks like
18:35I have a goatee.
18:36Moving on.
18:37I'm just going to go mustache again.
18:40My fiance.
18:41But Claude Claude's in St. Louis, everybody.
18:43If you're looking for him, if you need him, if you need Claude for something, he's in
18:47St. Louis and it's so shocking that you and I have twice now had a conversation where
18:52one of us went, Claude is in St. Louis.
18:55Yeah.
18:56And we had like an equal amount of shock both times.
18:58Yeah.
18:59It is.
19:00Yeah.
19:01And it'll come up a third time, I'm sure.
19:02A hundred percent.
19:03And both of us will go, what?
19:04Since when?
19:05I have not heard that.
19:06This is news to me.
19:07Speaking of news, you want to do the news for the week?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Let's just do it now.
19:16Yeah.
19:17News from the week, everybody.
19:18We haven't talked to you in a little bit.
19:20Anna Potter sent down to Providence.
19:23Yeah.
19:24Yeah.
19:25You take it away.
19:26Yeah.
19:27I feel as though I have to kind of stick with my guns on this one.
19:30I have a very nuanced take on this, but I feel like the fandom pretty well handled the
19:37outrage side of it and the shock and anger and all these other negative emotions.
19:43If I had to rationalize it, which I did without too much effort, I guess.
19:50I would say that.
19:51Yeah.
19:52Like if you're thinking specifically for Potra's benefit and like his long term development
19:57and just the reality of what he was getting with Boston lately in terms of like ice time,
20:04like he was playing like not even 12 minutes game was getting moved around a lot center
20:08wing, third line, fourth line, some first line, not really any power play time, no penalty
20:12kill time.
20:15Team was looking like wet ass.
20:17So yeah, if you send him to Providence and he instantly can like top line it, play 18
20:22minutes a game, probably run their power play or at least be a big part of it like and like
20:29let him do that for a little bit.
20:33Maybe not the worst thing for him to like kind of get back to his game because he hasn't
20:37been great.
20:3914 games.
20:40That's a goal and three assists.
20:42Not terrific and not even just like a point thing, just like going off of like the eye
20:46test from like what in a very short amount of time I've become accustomed to expecting
20:50from him.
20:51It hasn't been there for the last couple of weeks and he's 20 years old and the team isn't
20:56great.
20:57So it makes sense.
20:58I'm not like worried about it.
21:00That's fine.
21:01But like for him to get sent down to Providence with the rationale that like, again, long
21:07term development, we want you to kind of get back to your game and maybe being a bigger
21:12fish in a smaller pond is best for you right now.
21:16That's all right.
21:17But at the same time, he was not the problem on this team.
21:19I didn't love Montgomery's comment about him like not being impactful enough for him not
21:23playing in the system well enough.
21:26And I do think I think it's best for Patra and I think it's bad for the Boston Bruins
21:31at the same time.
21:33So I am going to just hijack a quote.
21:36Oh my God, my cat.
21:37I'm so sorry.
21:38That's what my cat sounds like.
21:44That's not a cat.
21:45It's good.
21:46We've well-established gooses.
21:48He's something.
21:49He's something.
21:50But a cat he is not.
21:51Anyway, I'm just going to hijack a quote from a one Mr. Evan Marinovsky because I think
22:00he put it flawlessly and simply by saying, I love it for his development.
22:09I don't understand it from the team's perspective.
22:14And that's it.
22:15Yeah.
22:16He was like, I don't get it.
22:17Like, I don't get the move.
22:18Like, unless there's like some big corresponding thing.
22:20Like we've figured out that it's not like he's in Providence.
22:24He's in Providence.
22:25And it's it just doesn't really make sense for the team.
22:29It's not that it's so crowded that there's no room for him.
22:31It's not that he's underperforming.
22:33All of the advanced analytics would have you believe that he, you know, his expected numbers
22:39are all really high and his production should be higher than what it is.
22:43And he's a young kid who does need support on his line and he doesn't even have line
22:48mates because nobody does.
22:52I don't get it at all.
22:54And I hated the Montgomery comments.
22:56I've been saving that take to come on here and say, because I didn't want to text you
23:00about it.
23:01I hated what Montgomery said, because this is not like giving a guy tough love and, you
23:08know.
23:10Sticking it to him and saying, hey, we need more.
23:12Like he did that to what was it, pasta last year, right?
23:16Postseason.
23:17I'm pretty sure what just calling him out, just calling him out and saying, like, we
23:21need more.
23:22Yeah.
23:23Like we need him to play better.
23:25And that's that's what those call outs are for.
23:29Not for a 20 year old kid who just had shoulder surgery, who doesn't have a line and is still
23:37doing OK and is not your fucking problem.
23:42It's just I think it's totally, totally unnecessary.
23:45I think it's an honestly really bad look.
23:47And that was when I like when I really was like, oh, I think Jim like knows he's gone.
23:52He's just saying shit like this.
23:55It just felt so reckless.
23:56And maybe it's maybe that's making making more out of it than it is.
24:00But just felt too honest.
24:01It's like, don't.
24:02And also just wrong.
24:04It's not even that him saying it is the problem, like saying it to the media.
24:08It's the fact that, like, if he thinks that it's like that's that's not why we aiming
24:12our our issues here of all the guys, of all the talent you have that isn't producing.
24:19That's the 20 year old kid who like everybody kind of agrees.
24:24Is good to very good and has a ceiling to be very, very good.
24:31I just don't understand it.
24:33I don't understand the move.
24:34I don't understand the comments, his development, blah, blah, blah, whatever.
24:39Him playing against worse talent.
24:41It's you can make this fucking argument in any sport.
24:45Playing against worse talent doesn't make you better.
24:47Playing against Peewee's doesn't make you more equipped to play in the NHL.
24:54Playing against the Hartford Wolfpack or whoever, it's not going to make you a better NHL player.
25:01I just don't think so.
25:02I just don't think so.
25:04Top line minutes in Providence.
25:07It's top line minutes in the AHL.
25:11What does every single vet say?
25:14Like when when a kid gets called up, it's like, hey, it's different here.
25:17And every guy who talks about their debut being like, I was stunned at how different
25:21it was.
25:22I was stunned at how much faster it was, stronger it was.
25:26And he's a guy who needs to get bigger and stronger.
25:28So you're going to put him against weaker competition.
25:30Like when you're trying to get stronger, do you pick up lighter weights because, oh, this
25:34is easier to pick these up or do you pick up fucking heavier weights to get stronger?
25:39I don't know.
25:40I don't like it at all.
25:41I don't like it, especially because he's proven himself in the NHL.
25:46Like he's proven himself just enough to be like, no, he should be here.
25:49You should be here.
25:50They have worse.
25:51They've worse players on the team than Matt Padre.
25:54Yeah.
25:55I just think he's just enough to be like, yeah, he deserves to be here.
25:58He deserves to be a part of the team.
26:00Don't like it.
26:01Don't love it.
26:02Don't really dislike it.
26:03Dislike it.
26:04But if you want to go and see Matt Padre at the Dunkin Donuts Arena, is they still call
26:09it that?
26:10It's the Dunk.
26:11It's the Dunk, but yeah.
26:14Is it?
26:15Yeah.
26:16Yeah.
26:17Providence ruins.
26:18Also, he's going to be wearing number 21 in Providence.
26:21Nope.
26:22Dude, it is the Amica Mutual Pavilion.
26:23I hate that.
26:24Bring back the Dunk.
26:25Yeah.
26:26Did you hear what I said?
26:28You can go see him at the Meek.
26:29What did you say?
26:30He's going to be wearing number 21 in Providence.
26:34Interesting.
26:35He has to earn Ryan Spooner's number.
26:40All right.
26:42If you want to go to the Amica National Convention Center for the Arts or whatever it's called,
26:51just go do yourself a favor.
26:54Save yourself a couple of bucks.
26:55Use code CLNS on the Game Time app.
26:57There's nothing like seeing a game live.
26:58I mean, watching it on TV is great.
27:00We have all the technology.
27:01We have our phones.
27:02We have access to everything.
27:03But being there in person, it's definitely the way to go.

27:34What time is it?
27:35It's Game Time.
27:36Swayman and Olmark were reunited, and it was a much smaller deal than anyone could have
27:41guessed.
27:42It's exactly what it needed to be.
27:44Not even need to be.
27:45Exactly what you would expect.
27:46It was a little photo op for the game.
27:48Quick hug.
27:49Cool.
27:50Let's go do the jobs that we get paid $8.25 million a year to do.
27:55I just expected broadcasts, I guess, to make more of it, or like the news to make more
27:59of it.
28:00Media outlets to make more of it.
28:01And I just, like, didn't see that.
28:02It's such a flash in the pan, and they don't go against each other directly.
28:08It's not like you have, like, two teammates, former teammates, one's a power forward, one's
28:13like a stay-at-home defenseman, and they're going to be clashing all game long.
28:17It's like they're in the opposite sides of the ice.
28:20I mean, in 100% of the game, literally 100% of the game.
28:24And Swayman's first NHL fight being against Olmark would have been something, would have
28:29also been cool at being Bennington.
28:33Those are the only two cool goalies to pick for two complete opposite reasons.
28:36But yeah, did you, other than like media coverage, did you expect any anything else than what
28:44did happen?
28:45Oh, I don't know.
28:47It's just just how much of a deal it felt like it was a bigger deal the day before than
28:51it was when it actually happened.
28:53I'll tell you what was weird about that game is that suddenly games against the Ottawa
28:57Senators matter now and not even just because of Olmark, but like they're coming up and
29:04the Bruins are kind of falling down and it's going to be another tough year for the Atlantic
29:08division and the points now are going to matter a fucking lot in like March and April.
29:15So you can't afford to be like, I mean, they got a point out of it.
29:19I don't love that they ended up not only losing, but giving Ottawa two points.
29:26But yeah, that was the weird thing to me.
29:28I was like, damn, like this because I'm so used to Senators games, just not mattering.
29:31The last time they mattered was like what, 2016 in the playoffs.
29:36Yeah, it's been yeah, probably since then.
29:41Right now, Bruins eight, seven and two.
29:45The Senators eight, seven and oh, yeah, they are two game, two points behind and they also
29:51have two games in hand.
29:52Yeah, the games in hand thing.
29:54I mean, it's early in the season, but you know, I keep thinking they're essentially
29:58neck and neck.
29:59I keep thinking and telling myself that the Bruins are like a timely three game win streak
30:06away from being like near or at the top of the division.
30:12They are.
30:13They're kind of, I mean, they'd have to catch Florida not doing well and they need to have
30:19like a good like streak of games.
30:21But Razor did point out that the Bruins are four, one and one in their last six, which
30:27that doesn't feel right at all.
30:32With four, one and one in their last six.
30:36That feels wrong.
30:37Yeah.
30:38Though the overtime loss was against Ottawa and the regulation was for a loss against
30:42Toronto and the wins were the Flyers shut out the crack and shut out the Flames OT winner
30:47and then this blues comeback.
30:51Is it crazy that the Bruins are where they are, like in a playoff spot for one, one in
30:57their last six and like the only thing we can fucking talk about is how we're a head
31:01coach is about to get fired is our, do we just expect so much excellence that anything
31:08other than a gold star is like, what are we, why are we even playing this game?
31:14It's no, no.
31:18I think expectations were what expectations were.
31:23And like, you look at the record right now, like if before the season started, I told
31:26you 17 games in there, eight, seven and two, you, I think you'd react the exact same way.
31:32You'd be like, what the hell is that?
31:33Who's hurt?
31:34Yeah.
31:35Just above 500.
31:36Like not even really.
31:37Yeah.
31:38Like you, you would be, you would absolutely be like, well, something obviously went wrong.
31:43Yeah.
31:44But I, I think that's because we expect so much from them again.
31:47It's like, I, I, usually the conversation when I think of a year or two ago when we
31:54knew that Martian and McElroy were going to be out until like November and we're like,
31:59look, just stay at 500, stay above 500 until they get back, we'll be fine.
32:03So usually that's like all I'm looking for.
32:05I mean, that's like the bottom of the barrel.
32:07That's like worst case scenario.
32:09Like just don't be any worse than that, which is where they're at.
32:14I don't know.
32:15It does feel a lot worse.
32:17Like I, if the Bruins did lose this game to St. Louis, I would feel extremely confident
32:23that Montgomery would be getting fired soon.
32:26And like I said, it's past the point where like, I don't even think if it matters if
32:29it's the right decision or wrong decision, it's just, you have to do it.
32:33Maybe like, it just feels like it's nearing that point.
32:36Yeah, sure.
32:37Yeah.
32:38Like a team can only look so shitty for so long and especially team like, like an original
32:41six Boston Bruins specifically for so long before you're like, something's got to change.
32:47And if you want to save the season, you got to do it early because if you believe you
32:51still have a chance to come back in it, and if you think a different coach would give
32:54you that chance, then you have to like cut off the limb early.
32:59Like pre think Thanksgiving is usually the American, American Thanksgiving is usually
33:03the cutoff for a lot of people.
33:04So don't ever call it American.
33:06I hated it when I said it, we established that as a band name yet.
33:10American Thanksgiving.
33:12We said Canadian Thanksgiving as a band name.
33:14Yeah, I would imagine they're both taken.
33:17That's fair.
33:18But we'll take them.
33:19We'll take them.
33:21Also just to just to establish again where the Bruins are at.
33:24If you exclude the dog ass Montreal Canadiens, they have the most goals allowed in the division
33:31in the worst goal differential in the division.
33:36Sick.
33:37Second fewest goals scored behind only the Detroit Red Wings.
33:44They're on pacer.
33:45It's different now, but it was about just over 200 goals on the season.
33:51Not great.
33:52It's like two and a half a game, which that's not going to win you all that many games.
33:57How many is pasta on base for six goals through 17?
34:00This was his first goal in eight games, too.
34:02So he was on pace for like 30 something.
34:08So he's probably coming back from that a little bit.
34:10But he's going to he's going to hit like three hat tricks, 32 hat tricks in five games at
34:16some point this season, and he'll be back.
34:18He's he's on pace for 29.
34:20OK.
34:21All right, that's it's going to go higher than that is going to score more than 29 goals
34:28here.
34:29I feel pretty confident in saying that you want to look around the league.
34:32See what the other stat leaders are at right now.
34:34Yeah, what's going on?
34:36What's this?
34:37McKinnon has 30 points.
34:38What is that?
34:39Disgusting.
34:40That's fucking.
34:41What is that?
34:42Fuck off.
34:43You kidding me?
34:44That's too many.
34:45I'm actually mad.
34:46That made me mad.
34:47I read it as you said it, and I was like, I'm looking at something else that that can't
34:49be right.
34:50I mean, for reference, the Bruins point leaders, David Pasternak with 14.
34:56So there's that.
35:00My prediction for Swainman stats were so wrong this year.
35:03Also already.
35:04Yeah.
35:05Didn't you have met like a one five?
35:07I remember what I said.
35:08I just said that he would be like in the top five consistently for stats, and he is like
35:12not near it at all.
35:13He's fine.
35:14Like, he's not a problem.
35:15He's definitely not the problem.
35:18It's just they're going to be great when you lose that many games.
35:21Yeah.
35:22I mean, here's the thing in goals against.
35:24Do you want to get don't look, don't look in goals against you want to guess where he
35:28ranks in the NHL goals against average, not goals against just a G.A.
35:33I'm trying to think of how many goalies in the league there are being like twenty eight
35:38thirty eight.
35:39Oh, OK.
35:40It's worse than I thought.
35:41Yeah, it's not good.
35:42No.
35:43What is it?
35:44What does he have?
35:47He has a 313.
35:50That's not great.
35:51That's not good.
35:52And a save percentage of eight ninety six, which has him at thirty fifth.
36:01I mean, he'll regress to the mean over the course of the season, assuming the Bruins
36:06figure it out, because as we all know, this is the turnaround game, everybody.
36:12Cole Caulfield leading the league in goals is weird.
36:14It's cool.
36:15I don't hate that.
36:16I think.
36:17I mean, it's funny because Montreal is still so shitty.
36:18But.
36:19Yeah, it's fine.
36:20Yeah.
36:21And this isn't cool about having like a young, short elite goal scorer in the league.
36:26It's like, yeah, that's I dig it.
36:28I mean, Cooch Cooch is on his tail and he's going to have like seven goals in three nights
36:34as is Taige Thompson.
36:35That's a name that pops up every now and then.
36:40What's weird is we just, you know, in the two most important goaltending categories
36:46affirmed that Jeremy Swainman is not among the the top 32 goaltenders in the National
36:52Hockey League.
36:54And both of us are just like, yeah, whatever, because I the eye test will tell you it's
37:00not sway.
37:01No, it's not.
37:02It's not like there's there has not been one game, one loss where I was like, wow, Swainman
37:07really boned him on that one.
37:09That was like, oh, that's on the way.
37:11It's just better.
37:12We win tonight.
37:13No, like neither of the two goals tonight were his fault.
37:15There's no fucking defender there, like again, like a gust of wind could have scored that
37:20goal.
37:21Yeah, we are leading the league in penalty minutes at one hundred and ninety one.
37:29Nikita Zdorov.
37:30Your contributions are appreciated.
37:31Do you see Jordan Bennington has like 19 penalty minutes this season?
37:36Yeah.
37:37Or maybe it was something crazy.
37:40He's a piece of shit.
37:41I fucking hate Bennington.
37:42I've said it so many times.
37:43I'll say it again.
37:44There's players in the league.
37:45I love to hate that, like you get enjoyment out of it.
37:48Like it's like they're like the heel.
37:51And then there's players I just hate.
37:54I hate Matthew Kachuk.
37:57And I hate Jordan Bennington.
37:58That's I think he's more of like the heel, like Matthew Kachuk is like the is like the
38:02I need like you need me my joker Batman thing.
38:07No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
38:14no, no, no, no.
38:17No, no.
38:18No, no.
38:19No.
38:20I'm not a fan.
38:21I need you.
38:22Oh, do you have?
38:23Oh, that's interesting.
38:24I the only one that's like I was the pasta had six goals in his first seven minutes of
38:25ice time or six schools.
38:26He scored six goals escape six shots on goal in the first seven minutes, ended up with
38:3110, which is pretty bananas.
38:33I don't remember.
38:35Nobody said anything about that being a record, but I can't remember the last time.
38:37They were passed and I kept a double digit shots on that.
38:40He does lead the league in shots.
38:42Clearly.
38:43So I thought, oh, that's interesting.
38:45Oh, it's interesting.
38:47I have one.
38:48Hit me.
38:49The Senators posted that they beat the Boston Bruins on Instagram.
38:54And Jake DeBrusque liked the Instagram post.
38:59He liked it.
39:00He liked it.
39:01Fuck you, Jake, I guess.
39:03Fuck you, buddy.
39:05Cool, man.
39:06Just kidding.
39:07I love you.
39:08Come back.
39:10A lot of people saying that the Bruins are regretting the Jake DeBrusque thing now,
39:16seeing that their offense is doing what they're...
39:18Does he even have a goal?
39:20I don't know.
39:21But here's the thing.
39:23If your offense can be entirely dismantled by losing Jake DeBrusque,
39:29it was never good to begin with.
39:31That's just not the case.
39:33It's not on Jake.
39:37In 13 games, Jake DeBrusque has three goals, five assists.
39:42It's fine.
39:43Sure.
39:4450-point season projected.
39:46That's good.
39:47That's about where he hangs out.
39:49That's Jake.
39:50That's Jake.
39:51All right.
39:52I miss Jake.
39:53I really do.
39:54Like the guy, not like the hot or cold on ice product.
39:59Yes, Joe, you have a comment.
40:01Johnny Beecher is going to take that spot.
40:03Ooh, I like that take.
40:05People love Johnny Beecher.
40:07But does he have as outward of a personality as Jake DeBrusque did?
40:11Yes.
40:12But we haven't seen it yet, have we?
40:14We're starting to.
40:15Okay.
40:16We're starting to see he's a goofball.
40:18I like that.
40:19I want Pottsie to open up.
40:21I would like Pottsie.
40:22Well, first we've got to get Pottsie back on the team.
40:24Pottsie's not on the team, Rob.
40:26That's step one.
40:27Step one is get Matt Botra on the bus.
40:29Before we launch a PR campaign, let's get the guy on the team.
40:33My fiancee was like, why are you so sad?
40:35I was like, they sent Pottsie to Providence.
40:39She was like, they traded him?
40:40And I was like, no.
40:42They demoted him.
40:44They traded him to their AHL affiliate.
40:47Yeah.
40:48Manny Ramirez one time asked to be traded to the Paw Sox.
40:53Just to fuck up everybody in that league?
40:55And they were like, we can't trade you to our AAA team.
40:59That doesn't make sense, Manny.
41:02No, you're not going to AAA.
41:06Yeah, I think that's kind of all I got for oh, that's interesting.
41:08That's kind of all I got, period.
41:10I mean, I know this is a weirdly cryptic, stoic show to do.
41:17After the first come from behind win of the year.
41:20Yeah, weird energy from us tonight.
41:21Weird energy from us tonight.
41:23Maybe it's just a reflection of how we feel about the team right now.
41:27That even a come from behind win over Jordan Bennington.
41:30We're like, yeah, but you shouldn't have been there.
41:34I think I could sum up my feelings as skeptic.
41:41And if not just skeptic, skeptically optimistic.
41:44Is that a thing?
41:46Like cautiously optimistic?
41:47Cautiously optimistic, yeah.
41:49I feel like cautiously optimistic is like you're leaning towards
41:51thinking it's going to happen.
41:53And skeptically optimistic is like, I think it could,
41:56but I don't believe it will.
41:58Like I'm leaving room there.
42:00I'd be like, I could see it happening.
42:02But to guard my heart, I don't think it will.
42:06And what I mean to say is like, I don't think that magically
42:10their problems have been solved.
42:12Because it's not.
42:13You're down two important defensemen.
42:15You're down Pekin Lindholm.
42:17Offense is still not great.
42:19Your power play is still converting at 12%.
42:21Penalty kill sucks ass.
42:23You're taking a lot of stupid penalties.
42:25The same exact problems we've been talking about since like game
42:29what to no game one.
42:31They let up four goals in the first period of the season since
42:33game since period one.
42:35So yeah, like you said earlier, until I see like three consecutive
42:4060 minute efforts.
42:42I'm like not even going to entertain the idea that like, and
42:47this is the turning point.
42:49I would love for it to be.
42:51I'm not dooming them and being like, they're not going to.
42:54I'm just not convinced yet because we've done this so many times.
42:58Like it's you need more than those two points.
43:00Like in a come from behind.
43:02Your first come from behind victory is awesome.
43:04And that is speaks to your character and not blowing a third period
43:09lead and because you never had it.
43:12But it this is different.
43:14Like they haven't done exactly this, but I don't know.
43:18I need to see more.
43:20Well, the Bruins round out the road trip on Thursday in Dallas and
43:26then they head back home to face these blues again and then welcome
43:31in the Columbus Blue Jackets and Utah.
43:36Team hockey club hockey club foot foot game.
43:42What foot foot game?
43:47I'm quoting something that you wouldn't know.
43:49Move on.
43:50No, no.
43:51Yeah, that's what you're doing.
43:55We will probably be back after the Columbus game is what I would
43:59imagine Dallas St.
44:02Louis Columbus is what's ahead of us.
44:06Maybe after St.
44:07Louis, a small window there.
44:09Yeah, even after Dallas.
44:13If you want to go crazy, if something crazy happens in Dallas,
44:16record on Friday, that could work.
44:18We'll see.
44:19We'll see.
44:20We'll see what's going down.
44:21We'll see how you guys are feeling.
44:24As always, you follow us on the socials at bear with me underscore
44:27pod.
44:28We're approaching a thousand.
44:29We're going to do a giveaway when we get our thousand follower.
44:33It's going to be a tree Spurs.
44:37You're on Funko pop.
44:38I'm going to give away Joe's home address.
44:42That's okay.
44:44All right.
44:45Can you imagine my home address on Twitter?
44:47That would be crazy.
44:48As I said it, as I said it, I will give away a Patrice Bergeron
44:53Funko pop that Rob gave me once because I'm looking at it right
44:57now.
44:58And it's the first thing I saw.
44:59And the first time I said it, I forgot that you had given it to
45:01me.
45:02I don't think I can be offended that you're gifting because I
45:04don't remember giving it to you.
45:06Here it is.
45:07Hold on.
45:08Let me grab it.
45:09See Funko pops.
45:11I feel like you can't just get one.
45:13You have to fully commit to being a Funko pop person.
45:17Otherwise, it's like, why do you have one Funko pop?
45:20You got me my first Funko pop.
45:22I thought I was going to start something.
45:24I thought it was going to be huge.
45:25That's him.
45:26That is a generic Funko pop person that says Bergeron.
45:29Why is his beard gray?
45:30I don't know.
45:31It doesn't look anything like you're just like, so they all
45:34look like they have fetal alcohol syndrome.
45:36They're so indistinguishable from one another.
45:41Yeah.
45:43It's not Bergeron.
45:46I have this, and I have Mookie bats.
45:49So it's just like a sad stack of Funko pops.
45:52Remember these guys?
45:54Remember when sports were fun?
45:56Yeah, I do.
45:59Oh, boy.
46:00Yeah.
46:01So I don't know.
46:02We'll give this to our 1,000th follower.
46:03Maybe some other bullshit that's around my place.
46:06Okay.
46:07I'll give you some bear with me stickers.
46:09Yeah.
46:10We'll give you some.
46:11I had a missed opportunity, so I didn't mention on the show,
46:14but I was in Philadelphia.
46:16Well, it's outside of Philadelphia for all of last week for
46:19work, and I was walking around, and I realized what I should
46:22have done is I should have brought bear with me stickers and
46:25then just slap them on random shit around Pennsylvania.
46:29Right.
46:30I should just start doing our code on them if we're going
46:32to do that.
46:33Yeah, it's a fair point.
46:34I should start doing that in Boston because it might make
46:36more sense.
46:37Yeah, we'll do that.
46:38If you see them around, I would love for us.
46:41I'd love for us to get a one serve you.
46:43Someone's like somebody put this decal over the hood of my
46:46car in the middle of my windshield.
46:50But you're talking.
46:51Somebody put this on my infant.
46:52Yeah, but you're talking about us.
46:54So, Hey, any publicity is good publicity.
46:56Don't hate to play the game.
46:57All right, let's bear with me.
46:59Subscribe.
47:00Like and subscribe.
47:01Five stars.
47:03Replay.
47:04It's a problem.
47:05Don't hate the player.
47:06Don't hate to play.
47:07I hate the sticker.
47:08All right.
47:09Okay.
47:10You can follow us.
47:11Bear with me.

47:22about things.
