More than 90% percent of the 35,000 participants in the MyLesen programme have completed their training and obtained driving licences, says Anthony Loke.

At the closing of the Selangor State Level MyLesen programme on Thursday (Nov 7), the Transport Minister noted that the remaining beneficiaries, who are part of the programme offering free licences to the B40 group and youths, are still undergoing training and testing, expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Loke stated that due to its high demand and benefits, the MyLesen Programme will continue next year, aiming to help more B40 groups and youths acquire driving licences.

00:00The My Lesson Programme is an initiative under the Ministry of National Development of Malaysia
00:12where the government pays a cost to provide free lessons to participants from the B40 group.
00:22This year, more than 35,000 participants have received their lessons.
00:31Because in every country, we urge every JBJ to conduct this training.
00:39Ensure that this programme runs smoothly.
00:43As I said earlier, almost 2,400 participants have conducted various training and tests.
00:57They have also received lessons to ride a motorcycle, the B2,
01:04and some have received a PSV for a bus and a GDL for a lorry.
01:10This programme is to improve the social economy of the people.
01:14First, we help the low-income groups to get lessons.
01:24We know that many of the 16-year-olds use motorcycles to go to school.
01:33For the B40 group, we help them get lessons.
01:38We know that many of the 16-year-olds ride a motorcycle without a license.
01:45This may be due to various factors, such as the lack of ability of their families.
01:51So this programme is to help them get a license.
01:54At the same time, we also help the B40 group to get a PSV and a GDL license.
02:02GDL is a big expense.
02:06To get a GDL license for a lorry, it usually costs between RM3,000 and RM4,000 at the driver's institute.
02:14So with this programme, the government pays the cost and they get a GDL license.
02:20When they get a GDL license, they can get a job at logistics and transportation companies.
02:26This will give them a reasonable salary.
02:33If they have a GDL license, they can get a reasonable salary as a lorry driver.
02:43So this programme will continue next year.
02:47The Ministry of Transport will continue this programme
02:52and ensure that this initiative will continue to benefit the people.
03:01We are doing our best.
03:03We have been given a grant for this programme.
03:07We are trying to find an initiative and ensure that the same amount can be benefited.
03:15Even though the grant may increase next year.
03:20We will ensure that the same amount can be benefited.
03:27If there are additional grants for this programme, we will add them.
03:36This programme is flexible because we have special grants for this programme.
03:42But for other programmes, if there are additional grants, we will add them.
03:49This programme has a high demand.
03:53As I said earlier, we have received more than 100,000 applications for 2024.
03:59But we only have applications for 35,000 people.
04:04And of course, when there are applications, we have to meet the requirements.
04:10So most of the applicants do not meet the requirements?
04:14Yes, of course.
04:15Maybe because of their income, they exceed the requirements.
04:20And we also have to see if they have a record or not.
04:24Because we want to ensure that they are clear of any record of violations.
04:30So that is one of the requirements.
04:33Especially for the PSB and GDL programmes.
04:37They must be clear of any violations.
04:46Almost 90%.
04:48As I said earlier, we have allocated 35,000 applications for this year.
04:52So far, almost 30,000 have been completed.
04:55So in the next two months, we will try to complete all of them.
04:59How many applicants have you received?
05:04More than half.
05:09Yes, we do hope to give more applicants.
05:15But we do not have a condition that we will not give more applicants if they are of the same age as us.
05:21As I saw earlier, one of the applicants is 60 years old.
05:28More than 50 years old.
05:31So there are applicants.
05:33But I was surprised.
05:35There are still applicants who are 50-60 years old and do not have a license.
05:40Meaning that they have never had a license before.
05:42Especially for B2.
05:44Because many of them usually have a car license.
05:50They do not have a motorcycle license.
05:52So they took the opportunity from this programme to get a B2 license.
05:57But our goal is to help them.
