The original Cheese Slaw can be traced to Southwest Virginia caterer Lib Wilhelm whose recipe is featured in the Roanoke Junior League cookbook “Oh My Stars! Recipes That Shine” published in 2000. The rest is history, and to this day, the dish remains popular at local parties and occasions. 00:00Apparently people are out here eating cheese slaw, and it's probably not what you think it is. Cheese slaw is
00:06basically a cousin of pimento cheese. Grate up a pound of Swiss cheese. I like to do this in my food processor.
00:12I don't need an arm workout with my cheese grater. Mix in mayonnaise,
00:16banana peppers, a jalapeno, green onions. The green color of all of these stir-ins is where I think it does
00:24kind of look like coleslaw. If I saw this on a buffet, I could be convinced that it was slaw.
00:31I'm serving it in a cabbage-ware plate because obviously it looks like a bowl of slaw, but it's cheese.
00:37Get some crackers or crudités if that's more your speed, and there you have it. Cheese slaw.
00:48It is so good. The banana peppers, the jalapeno, a little bit of a kick, the green onion. This, y'all,
00:53I'm telling you, will be a new favorite.
00:57You gotta make it.
