00:00There it walks back to shotgun and throw across, here goes Kittle, on the run George Kittle, inside the 10, Kittle to the pylon, what a run, he is marked just short, George Kittle took off, they mark him out of bounds at the 3.
00:17Now, back to Will and Dibby on 95.7 The Game.
00:21Uh, Captain Obvious has arrived, I'd like to say this out loud.
00:24Do it.
00:25Yo, Niner fans, you got yourself one hell of a tight end.
00:30My God.
00:31Hall of Famer.
00:32Hall of Famer, and you know what?
00:35We want to go to the phones.
00:36I just want to get this off my chest for about 20 seconds, because I've dealt with this for the last 3 years on social media.
00:44There's always some Kelsey fan out there, who's like, that's ridiculous that you think Kittle is the best tight end in football.
00:52Do you know what?
00:54Eat it.
00:55You've been wrong for 3 years, and you still are, and only now you're seeing it because his fantasy numbers are down, so now suddenly you're able to see that all along, George Kittle has been the all-around best tight end in this game.
01:11Travis has been the best receiving tight end in this game.
01:15But George Kittle is the best tight end in this game.
01:18And he still is, by the way.
01:21So happy National Tight Ends Day.
01:23Yeah.
01:24That was started by George.
01:25It was finished by George.
01:27That is the face of the position in the NFL.
01:31Those tight ends had a day now.
01:33Across the board.
01:35It felt like people were messing with us.
01:38I'm like, are you only throwing to the tight ends to celebrate or something?
01:41Pretty funny.
01:42I have Trey McBride on my fantasy team, and he was just, you know, catch-a-catch-a-catch-a.
01:46Dude.
01:47Laporta.
01:48Kay Dotton.
01:49Yeah, Kay Dotton.
01:50Kay Dotton.
01:51Kelsey got a piece.
01:52Kelsey had a big game.
01:53Kay Dotton had a big game.
01:54Kittle had a big game.
01:55Yeah.
01:56Dude, the Lions were using Laporta, and then their other dude scored.
01:59That's what I noticed.
02:00I'm like, back-up tight ends are scoring.
02:03And then lovely Christy was sitting there at one point.
02:05She's like, everybody's tight end has scored except for mine.
02:09And where's Evan Engram?
02:10Two minutes later, boop, touchdown.
02:12Nice.
02:13I'm like, dude, everybody.
02:16Everybody was amazing yesterday.
02:18But the Niners have the best tight end in the game.
02:20Looking at the pro football focus numbers for tight ends this year,
02:23where do you think George Kittle ranks?
02:25On overall tight ends.
02:27Overall tight end, this is PFF?
02:29PFF numbers.
02:30Oh.
02:31I never know how those work.
02:33That's pass-catching, it's blocking, run-blocking, it's pass-blocking.
02:37It's all categories of all things that a tight end can do.
02:41Let me just scan.
02:43I'll give you a clue.
02:44It's not Travis Kelsey.
02:45No, I know it's not Travis Kelsey.
02:47He's number 15, tied with A.J. Barnard.
02:49Are you asking me who's number one or where George sits?
02:52Where George sits.
02:53Where George sits.
02:54Let me just scan.
02:55Scanning.
02:56Scanning.
02:57Zach Ertz has had a good year.
02:59Scanning.
03:00Scanning.
03:01Oh, Kyle Pitts has been kind of fun, finally.
03:04I'll put him at number one.
03:08Number one.
03:09Yeah.
03:10Yeah.
03:11Number one.
03:12There's a couple other guys doing some really cool things.
03:14Brock Bowers has been a nice pickup for the Raiders.
03:16Number two.
03:17Jamie McBride, number three.
03:18And then it's Mark Andrews and Dalton Kincaid is your top five.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Like, I say this without hesitation whatsoever.
03:26That's the best tight end in the game.
03:28And he has been for a long time.
03:30Kelsey is just the number one receiving tight end.
03:33But George Kittle affects the game unlike any tight end in football.
03:38And at this time where the Niners receivers have been a revolving health door,
03:42my goodness.
03:44Thank God for George Kittle.
03:46He has been one of the only stabilizing forces on this 49er offense all year.
03:50Yeah, and he did it straight out of the locker room,
03:52that Mike Tirico call right there, 43-yard catch and run.
03:57Just a simple little slant, comes off the line, one move, boop.
04:01The quick throw and a lot of yak,
04:03and he gets all the way down to the three or the four-yard line.
04:05And I want to credit Kyle Shanahan, before we go to the phones,
04:09for listening to the show.
04:11Because all last week, what did I say, Mark?
04:14Quick throws, screens, get the ball to Debo right away.
04:17Get the ball out of his hand.
04:18And he did a ton of that yesterday,
04:20where a lot of Brock Purdy just get the ball and boom to Debo.
04:23Quick throws to George and the rest of it.
04:25Then again, there's a reason why they did a lot of that stuff also,
04:28which is it worked, which is because the Cowboys' defensive line
04:32offered very little.
04:34And the Niners' offensive line, give them credit, too.
04:36They did a good job.
04:37You can only block the people in front of you, and they did,
04:39except for the one that Isaac Garendo missed.
04:42Really quick, do you guys want some stats to back up George Kittle's greatness?
04:45I know they shared a couple of these on the broadcast last night,
04:48but George Kittle had his 500th career reception last night.
04:52He is the fourth-fastest tight end in terms of number of games
04:56to get to 500 career receptions.
04:58He's now the fifth-ever Niners player to have 500 receptions
05:02as a Niner behind Jerry Rice, T.O., Roger Craig, and Dwight Clark.
05:06He has the third-most receiving yards in franchise history
05:10behind Jerry Rice and T.O. as well.
05:12Past Dwight Clark, right? He passed Dwight Clark last night.
05:15And he has the third-most games with 100 or more receiving yards
05:20in franchise history and, of course, the most among tight ends
05:23because also behind Jerry Rice and T.O. there as well.
05:26Those are beautiful, and they're all receiving stats,
05:29which don't even bring in the other part of what I'm talking about,
05:33which is that he is so good at all the other things
05:36that a tight end is supposed to be good at.
05:38Travis Kelsey is an amazing receiver out of the tight end position.
05:42He can't hold a candle to what George Kittle does as a blocker
05:46and the rest of what you do in framework with the offensive line.
05:53Kittle now 9 catches away from tying Christian McCaffrey.
05:58So he's about to go right by his teammate with 10 more catches
06:02on the all-time catch list.
06:03Wow. Wow. Well, except for Christian might show up
06:06and start catching more balls, too.
06:07He might. He might.
06:08He might. All right. Let's go to Joe in San Jose.
06:10What up, Joe?
06:12Thank you, guys, for taking my call.
06:14Yeah, about the 49ers, I feel good about their chances.
06:19I feel good about their chances.
06:21They're a well-coached team. I can say that much.
06:25And all the games that they were in, they were in those games,
06:28and they could have won easily those.
06:30I wouldn't say easily, but they had a shot to win those games.
06:34But let me ask you guys a question.
06:37If you compare the Niners to the Warriors,
06:39which team has a better shot going forward in the playoffs
06:43or making the playoffs?
06:45And do you agree that the Niners are a better coached team than the Warriors?
06:48Because the Warriors had 18 turnovers last night.
06:52Well, okay, that's interesting, Joe.
06:54So, wait, the way he phrased it,
06:56which is which team has a better chance to make the playoffs.
06:59Or go further in the playoffs, I think.
07:01Is that what he said?
07:02Because I think the Warriors definitely have a better chance to make the playoffs
07:05than the 49ers.
07:07But I'd argue the 49ers have a better chance to go further in the playoffs,
07:10assuming they make them.
07:12Like, in other words, the Niners, I think,
07:14there's a reasonable thought that they get healthy, get right,
07:18and actually do have, still, championship aspirations.
07:23I think the Warriors, as constructed right now, are a very good team.
07:28I think it's a playoff team.
07:30Are they a true championship contender?
07:32Probably not.
07:34Probably not.
07:35So them moving through the playoffs into the Western Conference Finals or
07:38whatever, I find that to be less likely than the Niners doing it.
07:44Agreed.
07:45I'm wondering about the idea of the playoff odds for the Golden State Warriors.
07:51You know, if the over-under for their wins is sitting at 43.5,
07:55that would indicate that the odds would say 44 wins is the most likely,
08:00which for me would put you into a play-in tournament at 44 wins most likely.
08:05Probably.
08:06You know, 7, 8, 9, 10 seed goes into the play-in.
08:09So if you go into the play-in, let's say you get 44 wins and you're the 8 seed,
08:14well, you need to win one game, 50-50 proposition to make the playoffs.
08:18So it feels to me like the Warriors are about a 50-50 playoff proposition.
08:23And as earlier indicated from the ESPN Football Power Index, they're at 45%.
08:29So those two actually could call it similar.
08:32Joe may be on to something.
08:33Maybe.
08:34Although he called the Niners a very well-coached team and said the Warriors
08:38were not, and then he cited one game where the Warriors turned the ball over
08:4218 times.
08:43And I would just say, look, I think both of them are very well-coached teams.
08:47And players also have undisciplined games.
08:50Like if you're going to say the Warriors turned it over 18 times, well, the Niners
08:53committed like 27 holding penalties in the first half.
08:56It was 21 turnovers last night, by the way.
08:58Okay, 21.
08:59And if you commit 21 turnovers, how much of that is on coaching?
09:03I look at one game and is he the one telling Jonathan Kaminga, yeah, go ahead
09:08and throw that one-arm cross-court pass here.
09:11That's a good idea, Jonathan.
09:13I've coached you to do that.
09:14I don't think that you can look at a one-game failure from a turnover standpoint
09:19and put that on the coach.
09:20Agreed.
09:21Now if it's a longer scope where the team struggles
09:24and they're doing these things and these things are not being corrected,
09:27then yeah, maybe we can then point fingers toward the bench.
09:30I mean, in general, in general, this is not just the Niners.
09:34This is all teams.
09:35In general, when I see like a coaching problem,
09:41it's usually not in the area we tend to think.
09:45So even, for example, and I think Kyle deserves some criticism for this
09:49because he's in charge, so that's kind of the way it works.
09:52But when you see them consistently make undisciplined plays,
09:55there have been too many penalties this year, for example,
09:58when they're undisciplined, in general, that's more on the player than the coach
10:04because no coach is out there being like, so here's what I want you to do.
10:07I want you to hold them and then just hope that you don't get caught.
10:10Nobody's doing that.
10:11Now, is he stressing enough the way that they're going about it?
10:14Maybe, maybe not.
10:15But I think you can see with a football team when there's sort of a
10:19quote-unquote coaching problem, and it doesn't usually just mean
10:24play calling and penalties.
10:27You can see when someone is over their skis, the locker room is all over the place.
10:33Like I'll give you an example, and I know people will hate this,
10:35but right now the Raiders are poorly coached.
10:37And that's not a shot at Antonio Pierce.
10:40He's just not ready.
10:41Well, it's a shot at him.
10:43But he's not ready.
10:44Shoot your shot.
10:45It's all you got, and it's a shot that you should take.
10:47He got thrown in.
10:48This happens in sports.
10:50Someone gets thrown in in an interim situation.
10:53There's a momentary emotional like, ooh, that looked better.
10:58It's a dead cat bounce.
10:59And then here we go.
11:00Now we're going to hire this guy for a four-year contract.
11:02It's like, no, hang on a sec.
11:04That was just a fun three weeks.
11:06Don't get married because you met someone last night.
11:10Just hold on a second and vet this process and see what you think
11:15when you actually get the real information.
11:19Because Pierce immediately looked over his skis,
11:22and I think Devontae Adams saw it, and he's like, get me the hell out of here.
11:26And now the whole thing is wobbly, and it's not all his fault.
11:30They didn't get a quarterback, blah, blah, blah.
11:32But I'm not looking at the Warriors or the 49ers or the Chiefs
11:38or even the Rams, teams like that where I'm like,
11:41that coach has already shown us that they're a good coach.
11:44I don't need more evidence that they're a well-coached team.
11:47They're not going to look good every time because people screw up.
11:52But those are well-coached football teams.
11:54You can see it when someone's not.
11:57The Jags look like not a well-coached football team right now.
12:00Well, and we can kick it even further upstairs where you have an organization
12:05that traditionally has been dysfunctional,
12:08and the leadership that they have in place,
12:10going down to the head coach that they have in place,
12:13it usually doesn't work because it's rotten from the head on down.
12:17And that's where you look at a lot of organizations that tend to make
12:22the same sorts of mistakes over and over and over again,
12:25and the Raiders are a good example of that,
12:27where the owner is not a very good and savvy owner,
12:30and the people he puts in place are either not qualified
12:33or not supported or both.

12:48Let's keep riding, okay?
12:50You're four and four, essentially, as you hit the buy and the halfway mark.
12:54You can look at the expectations from preseason
12:57or simply look at where you were last week.
13:01Knowing all we know, are you feeling good or are you feeling like crap
13:05as a 49er fan?
13:07Let's go to Richie in South San Jose.
13:09Hi, Richie. Thanks for calling.
13:13Richie!
13:16Richie is...
13:17Oh!
13:19Buzzer beater, Richie!
13:20Wow, you threw it up from half-court!
13:22We got to go to the monitor to see if he got in time.
13:25Yeah, hold on.
13:26Richie!
13:27Okay, Richie, what's up?
13:30Okay, so, all right.
13:31So, kind of echoing on this thought of the last caller,
13:36I have a different perspective, though, on it.
13:38So, like, looking where we are right now,
13:41I think I'm not unhappy with where we are because of the fact that just...
13:46First of all, like what you said, thank God for George Kittle.
13:49And second of all, thank God the NFC West sucks right now.
13:52So we do have a shot at making the...
13:53We're probably going to make the playoffs.
13:55But going into the season, I had higher expectations.
13:59And my worry right now...
14:00Okay, I know we're going to get back these players like Greenlaw, McCaffrey,
14:03maybe even Hufonga comes back.
14:05Maybe Hargreave comes back to the playoffs.
14:07But even if we have these players, I'm just looking at it
14:11from a global perspective.
14:13I'm somewhat sad right now as a Niner fan just because I don't...
14:19Unless those players who come back add some crazy injection,
14:23like, I don't...
14:24I think the discrepancy right now between us and, like, the Lions,
14:28some other teams, the NFC, even the Redskins maybe.
14:31And even overall, all the upper echelon teams in the NFL,
14:35even if we save, we're going to make it to the Super Bowl.
14:37Like, I think we're not...
14:39Those are the teams I feel like are way better than us,
14:42and I don't feel like...
14:43I don't see how we're going to match that this year.
14:45It's somewhat sad to see that.
14:46And I don't know if it's due to the coaching.
14:49I want to say Sorensen.
14:50Like, because our defense is flat out nowhere compared to how it was.
14:53That's a big difference between the previous years when we made those runs.
14:57Our defense is nothing like that right now.
14:58Our defensive line is trash.
15:00I mean, okay, maybe that might be extreme.
15:02We have Dick Bosa, but we can be run on,
15:05and I'm worrying that that's something that we won't be able to fix,
15:09and maybe Nick Sorensen doesn't have it in him right now to overcome those flaws.
15:13Yeah, Richie, thanks.
15:14I think the Nick Sorensen conversation is still a living, breathing thing.
15:18It's still evolving.
15:19I don't even...
15:20I don't really know yet exactly what to say about the defensive coordinator situation.
15:25I think that we'll get more information as players come back and we see a full season.
15:29But it's interesting to me that when a team is 4-4 and you can go,
15:34well, they're not as good as the Lions and the Commanders.
15:37And it's like, well, right, they're not as good right now.
15:41But we've already watched this.
15:44Like, they were 3-5 a few years ago,
15:47and I guarantee you all of us in that moment were like,
15:49Oh, God, they're not going to compete with the top of the conference.
15:55They're not going to be able to do it.
15:56And then they did.
15:58So, like, the exercise for me, as hard as this is,
16:03is to just focus in on last night you beat the Cowboys.
16:09Now you've got your bye.
16:11And I cannot stress enough how important the next 13 days are.
16:18We have evidence from before that the 49ers rejuvenate over the bye.
16:23It's also when Kyle Shanahan makes adjustments.
16:26This particular bye, it's also when Christian McCaffrey and Jawan Jennings will return to action.
16:32And it encompasses the trade deadline.
16:35I really believe that there is a way that the 49ers come back in 13 days
16:42a completely renewed and refreshed and different football team.
16:47It's possible.
16:48Even if they come back as the same football team without any trade acquisitions
16:53and maybe you still don't have McCaffrey and you don't have Greenlaw,
16:56the very fact that you get 13 days of rest
16:59and you get to go take on a Tampa Bay team that's more depleted,
17:02I think that you can still be better than you have been in the second half
17:06just based on being able to turn the page and come off a bye.
17:10And you look at what Kyle Shanahan has done in November.
17:13His record's been spectacular.
17:15And after the bye in particular seasons has also been very good.
17:19And the whole thing about you're not as good as Detroit, I agree.
17:22You're not as good as Washington, I also agree.
17:25It doesn't matter if you don't play them.
17:28And it also doesn't matter if on one Sunday in January you are better.
17:33And that's the only time that this matters.
17:35Now you do play Detroit, so it would be nice to be better than Detroit
17:38when you actually play them December 30th, my sister's birthday.
17:42Nice.
17:44She'll be in the house at Levi's Stadium.
17:46Long time from now.
17:47Yeah.
17:48Long time from now.
17:49That's two months, two months and two days.
17:51And yeah, enjoy your 50s, Gail, because in two months and two days,
17:56six to the zero, and that's December 30th down there at Levi's.
18:00So that's the only time that you have to be better than Detroit.
18:03You might not even have to be better than them.
18:05I don't know what's going to happen between now and then.
18:07Exactly.
18:08Who knows?
18:09You might have clinched the NFC West already.
18:10Yeah.
18:11Who knows?
18:12You might have clinched five and ten at that point.
18:14Yes, that's right.
18:15You might have clinched the sixth pick in the draft.
18:17Just one quick follow-up on Joe's call about the playoff odds.
18:19I did a quick Google-age, and FanDuel has the Warriors to make the playoffs
18:24minus 144.
18:26The implied percentage is 59%.
18:29Okay.
18:30So FanDuel is saying the Warriors have a 59% chance to make the playoffs,
18:34and the Niners are at 45, according to ESPN.
18:37Yeah, that's ESPN, but I looked at FanDuel's Niners,
18:39and they've got them as a favorite to make the playoffs also.
18:42What's the number?
18:43I'll find it.
18:44No, no, no.
18:45I've got it.
18:46I've got it right here.
18:47I think the Niners.
18:49They're probably about minus 160 to make the playoffs.
18:52Well, Bet365 or BetRivers, these are all, right?
18:57BetRivers has the Niners to make the playoffs at minus 182.
19:01Yeah, wow.
19:02Okay.
19:03And Bet365 has them at minus 170.
19:06Anyway, the point is, is they're a favorite.
19:08They're a favorite to make the playoffs.
19:09Minus 170 would be a 63% implied percentage chance,
19:14and ESPN, with all of their fanciness, has them at 45%.
19:18So either way, we're not used to them being down in those neighborhoods
