00:00The Veterinary Services Department says it will review the memorandum from 13 NGOs demanding
00:07action against municipal officers who killed stray dogs.
00:11This comes after a stray dog named Kopi was shot dead during a culling operation in Turanganu's
00:16Basut district on October 6.
00:19In a statement, the department said it will also provide updates on its investigation
00:23into the incident, which is being probed under the Animal Welfare Act.
00:28The culling operation involved 25 officers and staff from the Basut District Council,
00:32the Basut District Veterinary Office, and the office of the Kota Putra State Assemblyman.
00:38The NGOs claim that municipal officers often resorted to inhumane practices, including
00:42beating the dogs and dragging them by the neck.
00:45A coalition of animal rights groups has since said it would file a civil suit against the
00:49Basut District Council for shooting Kopi.
00:53Animal rights lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan said the groups will file the suit in the Turanganu
00:56High Court next week.
