00:00:00Alright guys, we are live according to StreamYard. Mike Kadlik is looking down. Taylor Cowles is looking away. No, he's not. We're good.
00:00:08What's up, guys?
00:00:10You froze on me for a second. Everybody's good.
00:00:14Yeah, we're here. It's late.
00:00:16And
00:00:19it is what it is. If you stayed up all the way through, you saw what we saw, which was the Patriots falling to one
00:00:25and two and a 24 to 3 loss to the Jets and I there's so much to say about this.
00:00:32So I'll let you guys, you know, really get get, you know, get going here. But just to get everybody primed.
00:00:38Yes, we're gonna talk about Drake May, but he's not the story. We're gonna talk about Jacoby Brissett, but he's not the story.
00:00:44We're gonna talk about a lot of different things that went on here. But number one was just I mean
00:00:51an ass-kicking
00:00:53almost worse than anything we've seen in terms of
00:00:58just looking
00:01:00like feeble. I, you know, this is as sad a
00:01:04performance as we've seen from a Patriots team, at least offensively,
00:01:08that I can remember. And I mean that's saying a lot considering what we've gone through in the past couple of seasons.
00:01:14This was
00:01:15really hard to watch and my conclusion after watching all of it with the same issues that you have, which is
00:01:22receivers, which I don't know whether they can or can't separate an offensive line
00:01:25that's banged up and has people in there who just don't belong and can't really block.
00:01:30Jacoby Brissett trying like hell to stay alive and make things happen. What you have right now, guys,
00:01:35I'm afraid is a problem without a solution. And
00:01:39this is where you're kind of at in terms of how you're looking at this team right now.
00:01:42So I guess starting with you guys, were you surprised at how
00:01:47rough it was? You knew it might be a little bit rough coming in,
00:01:51but were you surprised at how rough overall? And we'll start offensively because defensively there are some things, the defense left a few things to
00:01:57be desired, missed tackles, you know, some effort, you know, some dumb penalties, some late hits.
00:02:02But offensively is where we're gonna focus a lot of our attention. What do you think? What did we see tonight? What happened?
00:02:09Oh, good answer. We saw what happened. We saw what happens when you start having to get desperate offensive line.
00:02:17They had Cade Mollis at left tackle. Obviously, we're all excited about his potential, but he wasn't starting.
00:02:22I think for a reason, run blocking has been very good pass protection.
00:02:25It seemed like was an issue going back to the preseason.
00:02:27Obviously, that popped back up.
00:02:29Michael Jordan has to leave the game, gets replaced by Zach Thomas.
00:02:32David Andrews, even, you know, it's really not his fault.
00:02:35I hate giving him crap.
00:02:36But the fact that they got in so many obvious passing situations created too many chances
00:02:40where Quinn and Williams and him, Quinn and Williams is right across from them.
00:02:43Yeah. Obvious mismatch.
00:02:45Like you never want David Andrews to have to deal with those elite interior rushers one on one.
00:02:50You're just going to get beaten those.
00:02:51And we saw that last week as well with Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy.
00:02:54Then right guard.
00:02:55Obviously, Leighton Robinson, you know, he's going to be up and down.
00:02:57But usually you'd like him to be the only guy on the offensive line
00:03:00who really is fluctuating in terms of his style of play.
00:03:03And then Mike and Wenu.
00:03:05I mean, this tackle situation, he was pretty he's been pretty good at tackle in his career.
00:03:09Last year, we saw against like T.J.
00:03:11Watt and Khalil Mack.
00:03:12Those guys gave him problems.
00:03:13But now this is two weeks in a row where he won.
00:03:16He had a mental error.
00:03:17It looked like in the beginning of the game where he just missed a blitzer.
00:03:20Quincy Williams, he gets right up the gut with Jacoby Brissett untouched.
00:03:23And then there was another play where a defender blew right by him.
00:03:26So, I mean, you have guys playing out of position.
00:03:28You have young guys that are being forced to start.
00:03:30You have backups in the lineup.
00:03:32Obviously, the left guard spot has only been occupied by backups.
00:03:35So as much as you want to say, oh, Jacoby Brissett, oh, X, Y, Z.
00:03:39It's an impossible situation when the offensive line is in the state that it is.
00:03:43And you can't even get to the run game really until the second half
00:03:46because you get behind and you get stuck in so many bad situations
00:03:50that you really can't go to your bread and butter.
00:03:52So, you know, it's such a hard thing to try to have anything productive
00:03:56when you analyze the offense, because they were just having plays
00:03:59blown up before anything could get going.
00:04:01It was nice seeing DeMario Douglas get involved finally.
00:04:03And when he did, he actually looked good.
00:04:05You know, even the first target where he reverses field just for a yard
00:04:08at least looked fun.
00:04:09But really, that's the only positive to take away
00:04:11from what was just a putrid offensive performance.
00:04:13And you really can't expect much more against a veteran
00:04:16talented Jets defense with so many holes on the offensive line.
00:04:18Yeah, I know we're going to get into the Jacoby Brissett and Drake May thing,
00:04:21and that's going to be probably one of the main things to talk about here.
00:04:24But I just to me, it's so hard to put much, if any, at all of the blame
00:04:28on Jacoby, because then you see Drake May go out there
00:04:30and the same kind of stuff happens, right?
00:04:32And yeah, he was able to be a little bit more mobile.
00:04:34He got the first down with his legs at one point.
00:04:35But you look at Jacoby Brissett and this offensive line,
00:04:38what they're not doing for him over a 50 percent pressure rate
00:04:41in the first half against him.
00:04:43He was sacked five times throughout the game.
00:04:44May was sacked twice, seven total sacks, ten quarterback hits on Jacoby.
00:04:48He was getting peppered back there, like could not do a single thing.
00:04:52And I don't know if it's more.
00:04:55I guess I do know at this point it feels like it's more so the injuries
00:04:58than it is the actual skill on the field.
00:05:00Because when the guys are out there and, you know, the Vennari and those
00:05:02were out there and when they sort of had a stable ish line throughout
00:05:06training camp, you know, even the first game against Cincinnati, they were OK.
00:05:10But ever since then, it's just gone downhill.
00:05:12They can't do anything.
00:05:13You mentioned the time to throw.
00:05:15Jacoby's getting the ball out quick.
00:05:16He's getting the ball because he has to get the ball out quick.
00:05:18He's not getting it out quick because the offense is running smooth
00:05:21and they have these nice pick play set up and pops wide open.
00:05:23That happened once or twice.
00:05:24Besides that, it's just he's running around for his life out there.
00:05:27And kudos to Jacoby Brissett.
00:05:29That dude gets buried, planted, play after play after play.
00:05:33And he does everything he can to get up.
00:05:35And so I know there's going to be a ton of talk in the quarterbacks.
00:05:37I have a hard time.
00:05:38And now, granted, again, we're going to talk about Jacoby Moore.
00:05:41He missed he missed Austin Hooper on a an easy completion
00:05:45down the field across in the middle.
00:05:47Something maybe Drake may hit, but at the end of the day,
00:05:50hard to blame it on him.
00:05:51Offensive line, tough, tough showing.
00:05:53I don't know how it improves because they continue to get hurt.
00:05:55Caden Wallace left the game at the end with a knee injury.
00:05:58We don't want to love the game.
00:05:59I'm going to do it again.
00:06:01Exactly.
00:06:02So it's just there are so many more questions than answers
00:06:05heading into week four, and it felt it felt good after week one.
00:06:08It really felt good after a week.
00:06:09One win, two straight wins.
00:06:11Now a close one.
00:06:12And now a blowout.
00:06:14It's going to be hard to turn this thing around right now.
00:06:15I know it's early, but it's going to be tough.
00:06:17Yeah, it's getting it's getting late.
00:06:19You know, it's getting late early, you know, as they say.
00:06:23And that's, you know, kind of the worry here.
00:06:25And, you know, you mentioned it like, yeah, you're right.
00:06:27If you get everybody that you have, you know, if you put your A-team
00:06:31offensive line together, you at least feel that you have a chance to be competitive.
00:06:34It's still one of the weaker units in the NFL.
00:06:37And you're hoping that if you get some guys back from injury
00:06:40that you can kind of get to what?
00:06:42Maybe mid.
00:06:43The tackle problem is going to be a problem.
00:06:45You've got people playing out of position.
00:06:46And yet, Taylor, you mentioned it.
00:06:49It is a surprise to see Michael Unwin who struggled at right tackle
00:06:52when he's played there before and had success there
00:06:56and been actually borderline elite there.
00:06:59So it is a little weird seeing that happen as well.
00:07:02And it was equal opportunity across the board.
00:07:04I mean, you have Caden Wallace unofficially half a sack, three pressures.
00:07:08Michael Jordan, two pressures.
00:07:10Andrews gives up two sacks, four pressures.
00:07:13Robinson, two and a half sacks, five pressures.
00:07:15He got picked on a bit.
00:07:17Good. Not good.
00:07:18Unwin, half a sack, four pressures.
00:07:21And then Zach Thomas in his short time.
00:07:23Trey Jacobs, who I just learned is a is a person today.
00:07:27Patriot is one sack and three pressures.
00:07:30So, yeah, again, it's it's coming from everywhere.
00:07:33It's leaky, you know,
00:07:35and there's not much you can do.
00:07:37But on top of that, it was sloppy.
00:07:39There was miscommunication.
00:07:40It's like they've never seen a blitz before, you know, and they're not
00:07:43picking up stuff.
00:07:44You have that play where they try to run the bootleg right into somebody's arms.
00:07:48You know, like that stuff is just kind of bad football,
00:07:52not just guys being physically manhandled by superior athletes
00:07:56on the other side.
00:07:57So there was a lot going wrong here,
00:08:00you know, on this side.
00:08:02But to your point on Jacoby,
00:08:04I don't know how you can feel anything but bad for him.
00:08:08Like I he's doing exactly what
00:08:13his job description
00:08:15basically is this come in here and get killed
00:08:18until we feel it's OK to put the kid in.
00:08:20And he knows it and he's doing it and he's.
00:08:24A leader and they respect him and he's saying the right things
00:08:27and he's getting up, but I mean,
00:08:31I don't know what to do now.
00:08:32I mean, I don't know what you do in this situation.
00:08:34Again, we're not getting into do you play Drake May yet?
00:08:37Because Mayo, it could happen.
00:08:40It could happen before he's ready, because Brissette might die out there.
00:08:45You know, like, I don't know.
00:08:47You're not wrong, honestly.
00:08:48Like watching, you really do get the sense of like,
00:08:51are we going to see someone die on a football?
00:08:53And like, that sounds crazy.
00:08:54But truly, there was that last night, I think he took
00:08:56where they had to peel him off the ground, like too many times.
00:08:59Jacoby has gotten hit.
00:09:01And for a tough guy who wants to obviously show that and bounce up
00:09:04and obviously always does get up, there's been way too many times
00:09:07where he's down for a while and you're like, oh, God, if he's going to be the one
00:09:11every single time he's done, I'm like, oh, my God, like Drake May is going to get loose.
00:09:14He's going to stay plastered to the earth.
00:09:16And then he somehow just peels himself off and he guys grab guys, grab him up,
00:09:21whatever, and it's like, man, how many more of these can can he take?
00:09:25Like, not just mentally, but physically, like he's going to get hurt at some point.
00:09:28And I did like the attitude after the game.
00:09:30Like you said, John, you feel bad for him.
00:09:31He says, I'm going to get up no matter what
00:09:35in a quarterback.
00:09:36But at the end of the day right now, it's just it's way too much.
00:09:39It's not sustainable at all on how you want to run.
00:09:43It's not how you want to run an offense.
00:09:44And it just you feel for him.
00:09:46And we also wonder, how does this ever get better?
00:09:49Because three weeks in a row, it's gotten worse and worse and worse.
00:09:51I'm saving my talk.
00:09:53But like, it's we got to get there at some point because this is such a bad
00:09:56situation they're in, where I really don't think there is a right answer
00:09:59because of how bad you talk and if they should actually make a move.
00:10:02Well, look again, you know, we'll get there because we want to read
00:10:07in the mail's comments, but sure.
00:10:08OK, so, you know, we have to get there a little bit.
00:10:11I don't know whether to get there and I'm not going to take a victory
00:10:14lap because may play it and he lived.
00:10:15But like it's it has nothing to do with that.
00:10:18And anything that I have to do with that, I'm at any point I've ever made
00:10:22regarding Drake May is almost exactly what happened tonight.
00:10:26You're going to play him.
00:10:27He's going to get sacked.
00:10:28He's probably going to throw a pick or two.
00:10:30I think he'll live.
00:10:32I don't think his brain will be shattered, but it's going to be pretty fricking gross.
00:10:36But then also he's going to rip a ball to DeMario Douglas
00:10:39and do some stuff with his feet.
00:10:41And I think possibly get better because of the skill set that he has.
00:10:46I don't know if it makes him better or not better.
00:10:48I just don't know what you're going to.
00:10:49I don't as I keep saying, I don't know what you're waiting for.
00:10:54And I don't know how it's going to get better.
00:10:55I think it's always he's going to be green and he's going to be imperiled.
00:11:01And when he goes out there at any point in the season,
00:11:04I think waiting for this perfect opportunity when things gel
00:11:07and everything is OK and it's safe may never come.
00:11:10So I do think at some point you are in a position where, you know,
00:11:14I don't know if you're going to kind of just go there before you think is ready.
00:11:18I know, Taylor, you were saying that is when they think he's ready, they'll play him.
00:11:22They may opt to do it because they don't know what else to do.
00:11:25They might just I don't we can't do this again.
00:11:29So we have to do something else.
00:11:30And teams do that all the time.
00:11:33Well, I think that's a good point, too, quickly, just because
00:11:36your point last week that we the three of us went in circles
00:11:39about with Drake May's got to play.
00:11:40No, he doesn't. Yes, he does.
00:11:42The way tonight ended in the way tonight happened makes it an actual conversation
00:11:46now because they did get blown out and they did sit Jacoby down
00:11:50and Drake May did come out and he did look OK.
00:11:52And then as we'll have in a few minutes and he did get hit
00:11:55and he did get up off the ground.
00:11:56But then as Gerard Mayo's asked after the game, which I know we're going to play it,
00:11:59but he says, I don't know if we're going to make it,
00:12:02if we're going to make a change or not.
00:12:03So he kept the door open as well.
00:12:05He didn't let me hear it.
00:12:07I have I have the bite.
00:12:08We'll play it because Gerard Mayo has now spoken this quarterback
00:12:12controversy into existence by what he didn't say.
00:12:17Fella, we had a good game.
00:12:18X's and O's wise, we just didn't go out there and execute.
00:12:20And that's what it comes down to every Sunday.
00:12:22I told the guys this is NFL football.
00:12:24This is what it is.
00:12:25And we just have to be better.
00:12:27So the guys will be off the next few days.
00:12:29Tell them to, you know, get their minds right, get their bodies right,
00:12:32and then come back and be ready to work.
00:12:34Got a bonus Monday.
00:12:35Got another good team that we're going to go against next week.
00:12:40Just got to be better.
00:12:41I just thought it was an opportunity, a good opportunity for him to go out there
00:12:44with with the ones and and put a few drives together.
00:12:48He moved the ball.
00:12:49We'll watch the film and evaluate.
00:12:51And you're going to evaluate the film based on quarterback performance.
00:12:55Is there a possibility you consider a change?
00:12:59I don't know.
00:12:59Look, we talk about every single week, you know, you're competing for a job.
00:13:03So we'll get together as a coaching staff and see where it goes.
00:13:09So there it is up until this point, and again, it's always
00:13:12you always compare it not to what was said, but to what's been said in the past.
00:13:16And unequivocally, Jacoby's our guy.
00:13:18We have faith in Jacoby.
00:13:19We have faith in Jacoby.
00:13:20We have faith in Jacoby.
00:13:22And in this case, it's I don't know.
00:13:24And so that's where we're at is he said, I don't know.
00:13:27And here's where I'm at.
00:13:29I believe and this is why I thought it was going to happen.
00:13:33I thought May was going to start week one because I thought Mayo always wanted him to.
00:13:36I think that's that's what I read off of the way Mayo was talking about it.
00:13:40I think he realized at a certain point, I think I want to go with the kid.
00:13:44And at that point, Van Pelt was like, dude, we've been installing this stuff
00:13:48for Jacoby and I've been he's been running with the ones that I don't think
00:13:51we can make this switch and maybe cooler heads prevailed and Wolf and let's
00:13:56preserve him and OK, fine, we'll wait.
00:13:58But I think Mayo wants to see what the kids got.
00:14:01And I think I think if it was anyone but San Francisco and if a million
00:14:06other linemen didn't just get hurt, I think it's a no brainer.
00:14:09He starts next week.
00:14:10I'm still not sure, though.
00:14:14So my issue is, I understand that Drake may gives him a better chance to win,
00:14:21like he's more mobile, he can give you more and there's more to fear when he's in the game.
00:14:25I've never disagreed with that.
00:14:27It's why I thought that he was going to end up playing in October, because I
00:14:30didn't think that Jacoby would be able to play well enough that if Drake was
00:14:32lighting it up in practice, there would be a justifiable reason to not play.
00:14:36Drake may.
00:14:37My thing is, I didn't want them to play him because they're panicking
00:14:40because they're like, oh crap, like he's not ready, but we have to.
00:14:44That's the worst case scenario, because I understand he survived and he got hit.
00:14:48Like, I didn't think he was going to shatter.
00:14:50I'm the one who's been saying he is mentally tough.
00:14:52He'll be able to take hits and he'll be fine.
00:14:54But we're talking about going into an offensive line with a left
00:14:57side, completely made up of backups.
00:15:00Like at least when we were talking about this and him coming in, I'm thinking,
00:15:03okay, if it's going to be Darian low city, so Leighton Robinson, a battle,
00:15:06David Andrews, Mike, and when you add his natural position and Chukso core
00:15:09for ideally at right tackle, I knew it may, you know, may not have been great
00:15:13in the run game, but I thought at least in pass protection, you have a bunch
00:15:15of guys, especially on the right side who have had successful NFL careers
00:15:20to some degree at those positions.
00:15:22Now I just think you're putting him in a terrible spot where, yeah, he can make
00:15:26more plays, but the bad habits, like one game, they may not pop up two games,
00:15:29maybe even 10 games.
00:15:30You don't really see any bad habits creep in, but I find it very hard to believe
00:15:34that he can get pressure potentially on 50% of his drop backs and not start to
00:15:38come up with some really bad habits, start dropping his eyes to the rush.
00:15:42He even said himself that he's took a stupid sack.
00:15:44Like we need to also remember he is a rookie.
00:15:47Like we're not talking about, oh, they have Aaron Rogers on the bench.
00:15:49He's still going to have to make his mistakes, take his lumps, and you're
00:15:53going to have him put in that position behind an offensive line.
00:15:56That's not even just like fine.
00:15:57We're okay.
00:15:57If you can kind of scheme around them, I don't know how you
00:16:00scheme around this group anymore.
00:16:01Because no offensive line is built to sustain multiple injuries.
00:16:05So I, I really want to be clear.
00:16:08I never thought that Drake may, wasn't better than Jacobi
00:16:11Berset or a better option.
00:16:12I just didn't want to screw up his potential development plan
00:16:15because you're scared.
00:16:16And because you just think, oh, we have to throw them out there because
00:16:18Jacobi is just getting killed.
00:16:19It's like, well, what do you think is going to happen?
00:16:21Even if he does get out of some pressure, like he can't get out of a pressure in a
00:16:25sec when he's getting pressured inside and outside.
00:16:27So that's my biggest thing.
00:16:28If it happens, then sure.
00:16:30I was wrong, but I'm still adamant in my point that they should not
00:16:33wrong him out there.
00:16:34It's not wrong.
00:16:35It's not wrong at all.
00:16:36And it's not rushing.
00:16:37I actually think it's like, we're actually the people in the camp of play him.
00:16:42And, and, and people saying this kind of stuff you're saying are
00:16:45kind of saying the same thing.
00:16:47It's going to be bad for him.
00:16:49What we don't know is will it result in, will it affect him adversely going
00:16:57forward, which is will struggling and running for your life and feeling a
00:17:02rush and getting sacked and taking hits change the way you play quarterback
00:17:08forever, or like you have you shell shocked or, you know, again, now Bryce
00:17:13young is the cautionary tale here for everybody seeing what's happening here.
00:17:17Will that happen?
00:17:18Or is it just kind of part of everybody's growth and development?
00:17:22Maybe these are extreme circumstances with how bad it is currently with
00:17:27the state of the offensive line.
00:17:28But my contention has always been it's top three picks top five picks at
00:17:35quarterback usually go to teams that are bad and they struggle and you're
00:17:42seeing it everywhere right now.
00:17:44Like Jaden Daniels can't complete a pass past the line of scrimmage
00:17:47because he's under duress.
00:17:49Caleb, you know, Caleb is, is, is running for his frigging life.
00:17:53Like, I think that's kind of the reality of anybody, but also
00:17:57historically, these guys just play these top three.
00:18:01I went back and looked at it just out of curiosity.
00:18:03I'm like, what happens to these guys?
00:18:04I went back to 2008, 29 starting quarterbacks taken in the top seven
00:18:1029 quarterbacks taken in the top seven picks.
00:18:1319 of them played week one, another six played the majority of their
00:18:18team's games, like nine being two and everybody else was 12 and 13.
00:18:22Jared Goff played seven.
00:18:24The only two quarterbacks who did not play any, any meaningful games or
00:18:29snaps who were taken in the top three or four picks in the last 15 years, 16
00:18:34years were Jamarcus Russell and Trey Lance.
00:18:37Now, if you're telling me that, that, that the Drake may is in that
00:18:42category is in that camp of clueless, then yeah, maybe he waits a year, but
00:18:47everybody else plays them and it's varying degrees of success.
00:18:49There's no book that says you, you, you struggle early behind a bad
00:18:53offensive line, you have a terrible career.
00:18:55There's some guys who started bad through a bunch of picks, got sacked
00:18:59a ton and ended up being, being solid.
00:19:01There's others who were actually pretty good in year one and got worse.
00:19:04So I don't know that we know what's going to happen, but I know people are
00:19:08scared, but I don't know that it's definitive.
00:19:10So you're kind of like a, it's like a, what do we do here?
00:19:14You know, like you definitely don't want to, you don't want to risk it
00:19:18because if you screw it up, that's really, really, really bad.
00:19:22We just don't know if you screw it up.
00:19:23So it's like, how cautious are you being now?
00:19:25You know?
00:19:26And I think that they're going to be as cautious and careful as
00:19:30possible with this, with this decision.
00:19:33However, this is the week that they're going to have to, they're going to sit
00:19:36and actually talk about it this week.
00:19:37I think Gerard Mayo told us that, but after what happened tonight, I
00:19:41think you kind of have to, and they went into this thing from day one
00:19:45where we have a plan and we are going to bring in a veteran.
00:19:48What you don't agree?
00:19:49So scared.
00:19:49I'm just so scared.
00:19:50I'm not even, but do you agree that now, but do you agree that now is
00:19:54the time to make the decision, not make the decision, but you can have
00:19:57a discussion about it now, right?
00:19:58You have, you have to, because they did it.
00:20:00Like, of course.
00:20:01Okay.
00:20:01I can disagree all I want, but I just don't like, I hate the idea.
00:20:05If you want to have two backups, I still am in the same camp,
00:20:08but I don't think they should.
00:20:10I don't think so either.
00:20:11But again, like you talk about all the quarterbacks that were drafted
00:20:13first, like even if they had bad offensive lines and they have an
00:20:15entire side of people who weren't even starting in, uh, like spring
00:20:19practice or yeah, spring practices.
00:20:21Again, I, I understand the argument.
00:20:24I get it.
00:20:24And now that Mayo's open, you know, the genie's bottle, whatever the hell,
00:20:28you know, now it is going to be a talking point, but
00:20:31it doesn't go back in the box, right?
00:20:34Pandora's box.
00:20:35So a couple of things now, now that I kind of have my head on straight, a
00:20:38little bit here is the Patriots went into this season with their plan at
00:20:41quarterback and it was, we're going to sign a veteran Jacob reset.
00:20:45We're going to draft a guy at three at Drake Bay, and we're going to use this
00:20:48time and not screw this up like we did with Mack Jones and Elliot Wolf was here.
00:20:52He saw that play out.
00:20:53It did not work.
00:20:54They, they threw Mack Jones into the fire week one behind.
00:20:58Eventually and not, not year one, but year two and year three,
00:21:00a bad offensive line and incapable offensive system around him.
00:21:05And we saw what happened.
00:21:06So I think that they want to be very, very careful with the way they do this.
00:21:09So I don't think that this week after what happened, it's going to be push
00:21:14the panic button and put Drake man.
00:21:15It's going to be okay.
00:21:17We have 10 days before our next game against in San Francisco, we need to sit
00:21:22down and we need to make a rash or not.
00:21:24We'd not make a rash decision.
00:21:26Let's make a rationale.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:27Let's make a rational calculated decision.
00:21:29Myself, Gerard Mayo, Elliot Wolf, Alex, whoever else is in that circle
00:21:33of trust and see what happens now.
00:21:36With a, where was I?
00:21:37I forget where I was.
00:21:38Oh, I'll say if you got something, I mean, bottom line, man, I still do
00:21:43think that Drake may going in there.
00:21:44I think maybe he would help with some of the pressure.
00:21:46Obviously his athleticism, he can run for more.
00:21:49You can extend more plays.
00:21:50If he gets out of the pocket, you're really scared as a defense.
00:21:53Cause you know, Jacoby percent may extend and find Hunter Henry and
00:21:56Austin Hooper, like 10, 15 yards downfield, but Drake may can throw it
00:21:59like 40 yards downfield.
00:22:00So of course he does put you in a better position, but from what I've seen with
00:22:04Jacoby, like, I just don't know how much Drake may can do again, as a rookie,
00:22:09who's still going to make his own mistakes still needs to get acclimated
00:22:13to an NFL defense himself.
00:22:14I'm just terrified of this turning into a situation where he just
00:22:17has to run for his life.
00:22:18And beyond the bad habits, like what if he gets hurt?
00:22:21That's the reality.
00:22:22Like the number of times I've seen Jacoby were set, put in pressure
00:22:25situations where he literally can't even get out of the pocket.
00:22:27If he wants to, that's the thing that really worries me.
00:22:30So there are times though, where you do kind of just have to do the thing
00:22:34where you throw the baby in the pool.
00:22:36Can you sink?
00:22:37Can you swim?
00:22:38Like taking pick, taking quarterbacks this early with, I know, but now it
00:22:44kind of seems like, okay, we played it safe for as long as we could.
00:22:48Now's the time where it's like, okay, we kind of stink.
00:22:51We need a life preserver.
00:22:53Hopefully the baby could grab a life preserver when we throw him in the
00:22:55damn pool and see what happens.
00:22:57Because at a, at a, at a certain point, you just need to say, Hey, you're either
00:23:01going to work in this league or you're not, or we're going to do the best we can.
00:23:04And yeah, maybe it's a little early, but at the same time, these guys play early.
00:23:08Like, you know, you're, uh, Bryce young got thrown into the fire.
00:23:12Stunk CJ Stroud got thrown into the fire played very well.
00:23:15We can't compare them, but why the Texans were literally, they are
00:23:19literally on completely opposite ends of the spectrum where CJ Stroud walked
00:23:22into a team that was close enough to get to the playoffs and could support
00:23:26people, but people did not think that about people, people, people did not
00:23:33think that about line was better.
00:23:35Like the offensive line, they had so many injuries, but they didn't have
00:23:37someone where they still got CJ Stroud.
00:23:39Made Nico Collins a lot better than he was.
00:23:42They had a rookie in tank Dell.
00:23:43Like that Dell was a big part of it too.
00:23:45Those were like, they were dynamic.
00:23:47Nico Collins throwing to him.
00:23:52Bryce young and CJ Stroud were on such opposite ends of the spectrum.
00:23:55If you're going to bring them up, you have to acknowledge that Drake may is
00:23:58closer to Bryce young situation where he, you might screw him up and put him
00:24:02in a situation that's so bad where you're like, I don't think it's at, if
00:24:06you're going to put the Panthers here and the Texans here, where are the
00:24:10Patriots Patriots are like, I think they're pretty much dead in the middle,
00:24:15in the middle.
00:24:16I would think that the Patriots defense, I would think that we need to talk about
00:24:21that.
00:24:21Yeah.
00:24:21We'll talk about the biggest thing for me.
00:24:22It'd be one thing if the defense was humming and was really locked in, I'd
00:24:26feel a little bit better.
00:24:26A hundred percent.
00:24:27And that's where if they were playing like they didn't week one.
00:24:29Yeah.
00:24:30It's closer to the Texans because they have a formidable defense, a good run
00:24:33game.
00:24:34The pass protection is where, you know, they are not the Texans obviously, but
00:24:38the defense isn't playing well.
00:24:39And John, do you want to set that up?
00:24:40Because we need to go in on them because their performance is an
00:24:43we will, we will.
00:24:44And again, they, they, they deserve some, they deserve to be talked about because
00:24:48it wasn't poor performance, but also you're simply doesn't matter.
00:24:53You know, if they're the 85 bears, you're not going to win this game.
00:24:56If you, if you're, if you have 98 yards of total offense heading into the last
00:24:59drive, which is, I think where the Patriots were.
00:25:01So it just, it wasn't great, but it's just not the story.
00:25:05Stop pressing the button.
00:25:06That's how you keep hearing things.
00:25:08No, I got big ear holes.
00:25:11Yeah.
00:25:12Um, look again, I think it's close.
00:25:16I think it's closer to like, you know, in terms of rawness and in terms of
00:25:19learning on the job, Drake may is closer to Anthony Richardson than it is to
00:25:23Stroud, who was, you know, more of a pro type quarterback or whatever, but going
00:25:27to Mike's going to go into Mike's going to Mike's quite like, you know, I'm just
00:25:33going to say, I don't know if we want to be comparing Drake made it, uh, Anthony.
00:25:36I'm saying everyone thought Richardson was too raw and he went in there.
00:25:39The point is this, he still is.
00:25:41I'm just saying it's like, he makes the pretty throws, but it's like, that's like
00:25:4420% percent is like, we have to accept that the guys are who they are.
00:25:49I think right now, like Bryce young just might not be good.
00:25:53I don't know if he was ruined.
00:25:55I think he was put in a bad situation, but he just might not be good.
00:25:58The only, the T the only team that's ruined quarterbacks who have gone on
00:26:03leaving there and eventually start looked.
00:26:06Okay.
00:26:07Several years later are the jets.
00:26:09They did it with Gino and they've done it with, uh, they did it with, uh, Darnold.
00:26:12Uh, but like there's a few cases where somebody was legit ruined by a situation
00:26:17in many cases, they might not have been good anyway, so we don't really
00:26:20necessarily know if it was a situation or the person, which again, it's not
00:26:23definitive, it's always going to be a bit of a shoulder shrug and yeah,
00:26:26we'll get to the defense as well.
00:26:28We want to hear from Jacoby.
00:26:29We want to hear from may also, cause they addressed the quarterback situation, but
00:26:33we also want to tell you about our sponsors.
00:26:36We're going to start out of course, with prize picks number one, DFS app.
00:26:40You want to get after it here and sign up right now.
00:26:43And when you do you play five, you get 50 bucks instantly in your account.
00:26:49It's that easy.
00:26:49Pick more, pick less two to six players.
00:26:52Tons of fun.
00:26:53Mike Cadillac.
00:26:54Mike, how'd you do today?
00:26:55Did you go to be under and Oh, let's go.
00:26:59The Pat's daily one hit and then my own personal one hit as well.
00:27:02So we're back.
00:27:03We, uh, we had Gibson more than 21 and a half rushing yards.
00:27:06Breeze Hall, less than a hundred and a half total yards.
00:27:09And then myself and Taylor put together tomorrow.
00:27:11Douglas, more than 20 and a half receiving yards, which we talked about.
00:27:14And then Garrett Wilson to have less than 23 and a half
00:27:17yards on his longest reception.
00:27:18Finally, that one hit as well.
00:27:19We go, baby.
00:27:20Good stuff on the Pat's daily and the Mike was on island all day.
00:27:25And Gonzo did a good job there.
00:27:26Garrett Wilson for most of that game.
00:27:28He also literally came with a fingertip of brain.
00:27:30He was a touchdown.
00:27:31Catch was a perfect throw.
00:27:33Perfect catch.
00:27:33You can't believe, but again, it was good recovery.
00:27:36She kind of got shoved off at first and then closed.
00:27:38I'm sorry.
00:27:38I get 50.
00:27:41Use that code CLNS.
00:27:42That's all you have to do.

00:27:57when that announcement is made, because we're going to need you out.
00:27:59All right.
00:28:00Start checking the ticket prices.
00:28:01Start checking it out.
00:28:03Download that game time app.
00:28:04You want to check out a game?
00:28:05I used game time.
00:28:06I went to see Pearl jam.
00:28:08Uh, I did.
00:28:11I used the game time app.
00:28:12I went to see Pearl jam at Fenway.
00:28:14It was a ton of fun.
00:28:15Uh, you can do it too.
00:28:16And it was, it's a great deal.
00:28:18Ticket prices go down the closer you get to it.
00:28:21You get great deals, uh, all in pricing.
00:28:23So, you know exactly what it is you're paying, uh, for your seat.
00:28:27When you get there, uh, terrific seats to a great show.
00:28:30Uh, that was great.
00:28:31Use that code CLNS 20 bucks off.
00:28:33Your first purchase terms do apply.
00:28:35Once again, download the game time app code CLNS and, uh, 20 bucks off.
00:28:41Your first purchase terms do apply guys.
00:28:44Like I said, we will get to the defense.
00:28:46We'll get to some other things as well, but we do have to talk about a
00:28:50little bit more about, you know, Drake Mays debut here.
00:28:53Um, and what, you know, we've, we've talked theoretically, what
00:28:59would it look like if he played?
00:29:01Will it ruin him?
00:29:02Are we afraid X, Y, and Z?
00:29:04Is there anything you saw today?
00:29:05Like, I, I actually thought he looked more comfortable on his last
00:29:08snaps than he did on his first, even, even in the short time that he was in there.
00:29:13Uh, you know, I, and I, and I really, really, really am bummed out that
00:29:17Gerard Mayo did not call time out and let him actually go for the score there.
00:29:21I thought it was actually very weird to go into a two minute drill situation
00:29:24and then run out the clock when they could have gone for the end zone and
00:29:27tried to end that one with a touchdown.
00:29:28I think it would have been good for me and good for the team.
00:29:31So that was an odd choice, but anything you saw here that you think is again,
00:29:35anything that you, that we can look at and make any determinations off of, or
00:29:41it's impossible to given the circumstances, well, it's such a small sample size.
00:29:45I don't want to get crazy, but he converted two fourth and long
00:29:48situations, one with his legs, one with a nice throw to DeMario Douglas.
00:29:51So those were awesome to see.
00:29:53He did almost get picked on his first throw.
00:29:54Like you mentioned, he said he was nervous getting out there.
00:29:57And I think maybe he still had a little bit of the jitters.
00:29:59Um, he don't want to see him get slammed down, get sacked
00:30:02again and lose his helmet.
00:30:03Uh, and he said, I need to see the tape again, but he said he probably
00:30:06shouldn't have taken at least one of those sacks, but the fourth down
00:30:08conversions, like that is what Drake may gives you, like we saw it in the
00:30:12preseason where they would get backed up into some bad situations, like
00:30:14against the commanders damn near in his own end zone, and he manages
00:30:18to convert on a third and long.
00:30:19Like, those are the things where you're like, all right, Drake gives you this.
00:30:22We're like Jacoby percent, you know, maybe he does it in his own way, but
00:30:26Drake, may you expect those things more consistently.
00:30:27So I did like seeing that.
00:30:28And yeah, after, uh, after nearly throwing that interception on his first pass
00:30:32attempt, I was like, Oh my God, here we go.
00:30:34Like, he's going to get rattled.
00:30:35He's going to get nervous.
00:30:36And he bounced back from it.
00:30:37You mentioned, uh, the, the conversions running with his legs.
00:30:40He does get sacked.
00:30:41I tweeted as a joke and said, wow, Drake may wouldn't get sacked there.
00:30:45Everything was good.
00:30:46You know, the same stuff that was going to happen to Jacoby was
00:30:48going to happen to Drake may.
00:30:49But then he came back and actually used his legs to get those first
00:30:52downs, which is something we don't normally see from Jacoby reset.
00:30:55So I think that was really the biggest takeaway was look, although he is still
00:30:58going to struggle behind this offensive line, you saw some of the reasons why
00:31:02people are like, Hey, just throw the kid out here, John, you were talking
00:31:05about it last week, you know, a guy that can dance back there, right.
00:31:07He can dance a little bit more back there.
00:31:09He can go get that first down.
00:31:10We saw a little bit of that tonight.
00:31:12I liked, I liked seeing that.
00:31:13And I, again, the bounce back after almost throwing interception, I think is huge.
00:31:17He didn't panic.
00:31:18He didn't almost throw a second interception.
00:31:20He actually made a couple of really nice throws down the stretch.
00:31:22So good on him.
00:31:23Um, it's a start, John, I w I do want to say quickly, just if they did go in
00:31:27there and score a touchdown, it would be so much worse than it is right now.
00:31:31As far as you got to start, it would be like, remember when, uh, when Jimmy
00:31:34Garoppolo went in and threw that touchdown to Rob Gronkowski and that
00:31:37Chiefs game, and then they asked bill, like, Hey, do you have a quarterback
00:31:40issue and he just shrugged it off?
00:31:41Yeah.
00:31:41Like it would have been like those kinds of rumors.
00:31:44If, uh, if Drake went and scored a touchdown, but that being said, I
00:31:47thought he looked solid, not much better, not much worse than Jacobi,
00:31:49but you can see the skillset kind of, uh, start to blossom a little bit.
00:31:53I'd say.
00:31:54Yeah, it's, it's, you know, it's, it's a taste, right?
00:31:59It's a taste.
00:32:00So I think that's what people kind of wanted.
00:32:04I mean, look at how many people did, did you jump out of you?
00:32:07Did you know, did, did it move a little?
00:32:09Did you jump out of your seat when he, uh, when he ripped that one into Douglas
00:32:12and it was like, Whoa, Whoa, that's something, you know, like I was sitting
00:32:16in just complete fear, to be honest with you, I was just like, Oh, why are you
00:32:20doing this?
00:32:21The second everybody saw Drake Mays, how am I come on in the press box?
00:32:24We were all like, Oh no, Oh no, they're doing it.
00:32:27They're really going to do it.
00:32:27They're going to do it.
00:32:29He survived.
00:32:30Yeah, he did survive.
00:32:31He didn't, he didn't come off crying.
00:32:33He didn't come off with a broken thumb.
00:32:35He didn't like, he didn't land on his leg.
00:32:36Nothing happened.
00:32:37I don't think any of us expected Drake was going to go out there and crumble.
00:32:40Like, like we, we see him in the locker room.
00:32:42This dude is freaking massive.
00:32:44Like no one thinks that it's just, you have to be worried about what happens
00:32:49long-term if this kind of thing happens, we're on one drive, he can get knocked
00:32:52down four times and sacked twice.
00:32:54Like that's the fear.
00:32:55I'm not worried about Drake Mays really necessarily.
00:32:57It's just like how this accumulates over time.
00:32:59The fear isn't him getting hurt and coming off crying and being a sad boy and all
00:33:03that, if the fear is that he goes out there and gets sacked so much that his
00:33:07internal clock is sped up and it's sped up permanently and he can't get over it.
00:33:10Allah Mack Jones, Allah, Bryce young, all of these other guys who go out
00:33:15here with crap around them, and then they can't seem to bounce back with
00:33:18their, on their second and third steps.
00:33:20And to that point, Alex van Pelt, when he's talked about his footwork
00:33:23in the cube, in his work with QBs, he has acknowledged that you don't want
00:33:26guys to go back to bad habits and that can happen.
00:33:30So it's not even like, this is something that we're making up.
00:33:32Van Pelt has acknowledged that.
00:33:34Yeah.
00:33:34Bad habits can start to creep back in.
00:33:37That's really my only fear.
00:33:38Like, is you want, you you're saying like, you know, your
00:33:40jobs are tethered to this kid.
00:33:42I just didn't want him to go out there in this kind of situation where it's
00:33:45just because, you know, things are so ugly and it's not even that you
00:33:47call me percent was playing poorly.
00:33:49Right.
00:33:49Literally.
00:33:50It was just like, oh, this guy's getting killed.
00:33:51Let's see if Drake, they could do something like that's not what I wanted.
00:33:53He wasn't even given an opportunity to play poorly.
00:33:55He just couldn't play football at all tonight.
00:33:58Interestingly enough, uh, Patriots media availability for tomorrow.
00:34:01Gerard Mayo presser at 11 and Alex van Pelt speaks at 1115
00:34:05followed by Covington and Springer.
00:34:07So we could get, we'll get some explaining to do.
00:34:09We'll have some, uh, potentially more news.
00:34:11They will have watched the film at that point.
00:34:13I would think they could, they get that done basically on the coaches.
00:34:17They do that right now.
00:34:18So they'll be able to have seen the film.
00:34:20Maybe they're going to beat around the bush and say, yeah, we watched the film,
00:34:23but we haven't talked, we haven't made a decision yet, but we may get some
00:34:25answers potentially on a quarterback decision tomorrow morning.
00:34:28We may.
00:34:29And, and again, I, we go in circles, we go on circles on it a bit, but I will say
00:34:35again, I, nobody, nobody favors sitting him the entire year, right?
00:34:41Like I think, I think in today's NFL, I think from a business person, from a
00:34:46business perspective, I think you can't do that anymore.
00:34:51And the reason you rush these guys in is less because they give you the best
00:34:54chance to win and less because you think that they're ready and more because I
00:34:58got to evaluate them by the end of year two to decide whether or not I want to
00:35:02jump ship and because then you got to move on to the next thing and you don't
00:35:06want to be stuck in no man's land.
00:35:07So if you sit a full year and you play him in year two and it's like, well, I
00:35:11guess I'll give him another one.
00:35:13And then you're kind of, you're nowhere.
00:35:15So I think that's part of it is learning on the job.
00:35:18You want them to learn to play the position, but you want to learn if they
00:35:21can play the position, at least to see enough in there.
00:35:24So it's partially evaluation there.
00:35:26And I don't think it's ever going to be perfect.
00:35:28I think it's meant to be ugly.
00:35:30Drake may, you know, for to his credit, he went in there, he was pretty honest in
00:35:35the locker room after I asked about, you know, how he felt out there and, you
00:35:39know, whether or not he kind of sort of thinks he should be starting.
00:35:48Yeah, we're going to kind of no huddles kind of scenario.
00:35:50So a little different than kind of command the huddle and being in there
00:35:53calling some plays, but at the same time, I'm moving fast and get down the red zone
00:35:57is tough. You know, we had a few plays in the red zone is tough.
00:35:59Those guys do a good job and these defenses mix it up.
00:36:02So I've got to be quick with my decisiveness and try to get the ball out.
00:36:07It's going to be a drug was asked if you guys would make a quarterback change and
00:36:11he didn't say no. If you were asked to start, do you feel like you'd be ready?
00:36:14Yeah, I think, you know, that's the kind of what I'm doing, you know, week in,
00:36:18week out. I'll be ready to, you know, when my name is called, when my number's
00:36:22called, I'll go out there and try to make some plays.
00:36:24So any time I've been preparing like I'm a starter and same time, you know,
00:36:28Kobe, I've been there for Kobe. He battled tonight.
00:36:31I mean, what kept on getting up every time, you know, jogging off, encouraging
00:36:35the guys on the sideline. So he made some great throws tonight.
00:36:41My bad, my bad.
00:36:44These things slipping out of my ears.
00:36:46Are you all right, buddy?
00:36:48You keep pressing play on things.
00:36:49It's my ear holes.
00:36:50He keeps pressing play.
00:36:52Oh, my God.
00:36:52Full disclosure behind the scenes.
00:36:54We have air pods into here, John, at home.
00:36:56And Taylor keeps messing with the thing.
00:36:58And every time he touches a big thing, music plays on the on the laptop.
00:37:03That's where we're at right now.
00:37:04That's what's going on at Dumbo's problem.
00:37:07My bad. I'm sorry.
00:37:08I am here at MetLife Stadium.
00:37:09So damn, damn.
00:37:12So that's that's me talking about.
00:37:15We have eleven hundred people watching us.
00:37:16Thank you all. We appreciate you.
00:37:17Let's let's let's hear about let's hear Jacobi and hear what he has to say
00:37:21when he was kind of pressed, including Taylor.
00:37:23Kyle's getting up in his business.
00:37:25And I'm kind of telling you they were going to let Dre take that last series.
00:37:29And how are you? How do you feel about that?
00:37:31Uh, told me he's going in.
00:37:33I mean, well, I don't know what you want me to say.
00:37:37Yeah, he just told me he's going in.
00:37:39And then we I guess Gerard said before, like, I don't know what we do going forward.
00:37:43The coach didn't want to look at it.
00:37:44Like, do you still feel like it's your job or?
00:37:47Oh, of course. I mean, I don't I don't I don't make personnel decisions.
00:37:51You know, I go my job is to go out there, get ready to play,
00:37:53put a good football on tape and put my best foot forward.
00:37:57Obviously, the pressure made it rough.
00:37:58But did you feel outside of the missed Austin Hooper
00:38:00that there were maybe any throws that you could have made
00:38:02that weren't able to do that?
00:38:05I don't know. We'll see.
00:38:06So he was asked about a possible change of court records.
00:38:08First of all, I don't want I'm not trying to get you to say any kind of way.
00:38:11I'm just curious how rusty Taylor his words were.
00:38:15I don't know what to review for the situation.
00:38:17Coach, yes, yes.
00:38:19I'm not I'm not going to overreact to something that I didn't hear.
00:38:23So, yeah.
00:38:28He does not like those questions.
00:38:31No, he doesn't enjoy it.
00:38:34No, he he answers questions.
00:38:35He takes accountability.
00:38:37He understands that the offense runs through him and that things are struggling
00:38:40and he puts the blame on himself and he talks good about everything.
00:38:43But whenever he's asked about the Drake May situation,
00:38:47whether he's the starter, he says yes and he says nothing else.
00:38:50And look, I can't blame him.
00:38:52Excuse me.
00:38:53He's in a difficult position,
00:38:55but you can tell that it gets to him and it bothers him.
00:38:57He doesn't want to talk much about it.
00:38:58And it's wild that it's gotten to this point and we're three weeks in.
00:39:00Like he all even in the locker room, like we've acknowledged
00:39:03he just seems like he's tired of this situation already,
00:39:07which is not what you want to see.
00:39:09You know, obviously you didn't even get to the quarter mark of the season yet.
00:39:12So I tried.
00:39:13The only reason I asked him is because I know people are saying,
00:39:15oh, he's holding on to the ball.
00:39:16He's not throwing open receivers.
00:39:17Last week, that was the case.
00:39:19Even the week before that was on film.
00:39:21But it was also impossible to say that in the same breath without mentioning
00:39:24that literally, if he doesn't throw to his first read,
00:39:26he's getting pressured and has to move.
00:39:28That's why I just wanted to say, were there any throws you could have made?
00:39:30So we could have been like, no, not really.
00:39:32You know, I did the best I could or something, but you wouldn't have.
00:39:35And talking about how he doesn't like to answer these questions. Right.
00:39:37And you mentioned that it stinks that we're in the third week of this
00:39:40and it's already happening.
00:39:41The day that they called the Gerard Mayo press conference
00:39:43to announce that Jacoby was the starter,
00:39:45we went in the locker room 20 minutes after Mayo told us
00:39:47and asked Jacoby about it.
00:39:48He was like, I don't know what you guys are talking about.
00:39:50You guys made this a thing.
00:39:51I've been the starter and didn't want to answer questions about it then.
00:39:54So I get that he's done a really good job.
00:39:58I think he's done a good job inside the locker room.
00:40:00Drake may seem to respect him.
00:40:01There seems to be an understanding of what his position is.
00:40:03David Andrews raved about him.
00:40:04David Andrews loves him.
00:40:05They've been teammates forever or they they were teammates
00:40:08and they've known each other.
00:40:09Yeah, they've known each other forever.
00:40:11But and I almost just touched my ear pod again.
00:40:14See, it's falling out a little bit.
00:40:15We're good. We're good.
00:40:17But long story short is he doesn't like to answer these questions.
00:40:21And I feel like
00:40:23I don't know if he doesn't just he just doesn't want to talk about it.
00:40:25I don't know if secretly deep down it kind of bothers
00:40:27them that Drake Mays in the shadow.
00:40:29But that's why he was brought here.
00:40:30And I think he understands that.
00:40:31So it's a little odd to me that he deflects on that so often.
00:40:35But it's a shitty like it sucks.
00:40:38And you have to be in it.
00:40:40You have a job.
00:40:41And every second it's like, so do you think you've done enough
00:40:46for the other guy to take your job yet?
00:40:47Have you done poorly enough to be replaced yet?
00:40:50Like that's basically the the the question everyone's asking
00:40:55or dancing around every single week to him, you know, like and it's it's got to suck.
00:41:00He knows what he's and for lack of a better way to lack of a better way
00:41:03to explain it right now, his job is to be on a team with no job security
00:41:07for one year, get paid eight million dollars, which to be fair, is a ton of money.
00:41:11But to no, you cannot pay me any amount of money to take the beating.
00:41:15He's taken through three weeks.
00:41:16I don't care.
00:41:16Like he deserves.
00:41:17My point is, he deserves more than that.
00:41:19Yeah, of course.
00:41:20And his job is to literally be here for one season.
00:41:23No job security at 31 to get his shit rocked until Drake
00:41:27Mays ready to play football.
00:41:28And if he's bad, he's going to be he's going to be constantly asked about it.
00:41:31So he's in a no win situation here.
00:41:33Again, he understands that you make a lot of money playing football,
00:41:36but it's not easy.
00:41:37And I think he's doing the best he can.
00:41:39And he's he's fighting for his life out here.
00:41:41Like he's trying to make plays.
00:41:42He's extended stuff like the play to Hooper
00:41:44where Kate Moss got called for holding, but he's doing that every week.
00:41:48He's not putting the ball in harm's way.
00:41:50We will talk about it.
00:41:51But the defense in the run game was supposed to be how this team won games.
00:41:54You got down so so much that you couldn't go to your run game.
00:41:57And then your defense two weeks in a row has just not held up
00:42:00their end of the bargain for a unit that's supposed to be one of the best in the league.
00:42:03Well, and so now I'll ask you this because they're talking about it
00:42:06on the broadcast as well.
00:42:07It's and again, we're into territory that I don't know necessarily matters
00:42:12on the who gives you the best chance to win, because, again,
00:42:14I don't think wins and losses are the point of this season.
00:42:17It's development, you know, and finding out whether, you know,
00:42:21the younger players can play and getting them acclimated
00:42:24but also not getting them killed.
00:42:26That being said, there is zero respect for both
00:42:30Brissette's ability to get the ball downfield
00:42:33and or the Patriots receivers to be able to get open downfield.
00:42:37And that's affecting things.
00:42:38And it was, you know, eventually that bill was going to come due, right?
00:42:42Like they imposed their will on the Bengals, even though the Bengals
00:42:45knew it was coming, we're putting eight, nine guys in the box.
00:42:47They still rammed it down their throats.
00:42:50They ran really well against Seattle and the Jets were like, not not doing it.
00:42:54And their linebackers were just coming
00:42:56and everybody was just attacking the line of scrimmage.
00:42:58It what's wrong?
00:43:00I think Romandre averaged like five yards of carry, to be fair.
00:43:03He just didn't run a lot.
00:43:04Yeah, but he only had six attempts.
00:43:05Yeah, like Gibson, I thought looked good.
00:43:07The defense, the Jets, my gosh, the Jets defense did do a great job swarming.
00:43:11Every time I thought there was going to be a big play.
00:43:13You just see three guys converge.
00:43:15I do want to give them credit, but I don't even think the run game was a problem.
00:43:18I just think they got behind so fast.
00:43:19They weren't able to run the ball because they got behind on defense so fast.
00:43:22Yeah. Yeah.
00:43:22Romandre was six for twenty three.
00:43:25But again, that's fine.
00:43:26Like it just they didn't establish a run game at any point in time here.
00:43:30They got themselves into into second and third and longs here.
00:43:33They weren't running as well on first down and they had some issues
00:43:37and they never got it going per se.
00:43:39But there was really no.
00:43:41They're almost daring them to beat them in a way that they know
00:43:44that they can't be beaten.
00:43:45And again, I just don't know how how it's going to work for these guys going forward.
00:43:48And look, they had been run blocking better than they'd been past
00:43:52blocking the first couple of weeks.
00:43:53And it caught up with them again today with whatever you had up front
00:43:56and the ability to be able to kind of get out, you know, behind those guys
00:43:59and, you know, and have success on the ground.
00:44:02So I don't know. I don't know.
00:44:03You know, I don't know how you have it going forward here.
00:44:05But the question is, if you have somebody like May back there
00:44:08and you can respect his ability to get the ball downfield, does that open things up?
00:44:13And therefore, does it make his life easier where he's in less danger
00:44:17than Jacoby Breset is in when they're like, we're just going to come at you?
00:44:20I mean, Jacoby Breset's blitz numbers and probably the major blemish on him,
00:44:24I think, throughout the first three games is when pressured, which is a lot, you know.
00:44:30You know, he's having a tough time getting off that first read.
00:44:33The numbers aren't as good.
00:44:34Is there do you respect May's ability to both escape pressure
00:44:38and or get the ball downfield to the way that you have to play things
00:44:41a little bit differently?
00:44:42I know that the book on rookie QBs is throw a bunch of guys in coverage
00:44:46and make them try to read a defense rather than send a bunch of people at them.
00:44:50So, you know, I don't know, but I'm curious.
00:44:53How do you think that would change what we're looking at on offense?
00:44:56Might that give you a little bit of breathing room?
00:44:59Only if the protection can be a little bit better, right?
00:45:02I think like, again, saw the bits and pieces of his ability
00:45:07to extend the play today and break the pocket and get five, 10 yards.
00:45:10But that can only happen so often.
00:45:12Like, I still think he's going to get back there and he's still going to get pummeled
00:45:15by some of these defensive lines if they can't block.
00:45:17And there's free rushers coming in.
00:45:18Like, you can't just get away from a free rusher.
00:45:20That it happened today where Michael Renu just completely whiffed on a guy
00:45:24and he came in on touch like Drake May is going to have a hard time
00:45:26getting out of that now they can scheme up some quarterback runs if they want to.
00:45:30They can try.
00:45:30And again, I'm not saying to go back there and run QB power with the guy or anything,
00:45:34but, you know, they can get them out of the pocket.
00:45:36They can move them around a bit.
00:45:37They can they can move the pocket better with him because he's more mobile
00:45:40than trying to get Jacoby out in space.
00:45:41But I don't think it's going to make an insane amount of difference
00:45:45because the offensive line is so bad.
00:45:47So even when they try and make adjustments and change the scheme around him,
00:45:50can they adjust to it?
00:45:51They had penalties.
00:45:52They had Caden Wallace was a penalty kicker.
00:45:54He got a legal formation.
00:45:55He got a legal formation.
00:45:56Then he got two straight holding calls.
00:45:58Yeah. So so like when they can't be disciplined,
00:46:01there's no reason for them to throw the the quarterback out there,
00:46:04the young quarterback out there if they can't be disciplined around them.
00:46:06And like you mentioned, John, the bill comes due at some point.
00:46:09And it doesn't really matter who is under center.
00:46:12That offensive line is a problem.
00:46:14So that's why I'm hesitant about this.
00:46:16I just can't point you to the offensive line.
00:46:18I just can't point you to the offensive line.
00:46:20So that's why that's why I'm hesitant about this.
00:46:23I just can't point this out with this like constant, constant arrest.
00:46:27Can I tell you one thing?
00:46:28Because we didn't talk about it at all.
00:46:30When the Patriots got to Aaron Rodgers to pressure him, what did he do?
00:46:37Made plays, ran around and made plays out and made a lot of plays.
00:46:41You know, Jacoby's avoiding sacks and keeping plays alive a little bit longer,
00:46:47but not being able being able to make plays, you know.
00:46:52So, again, it's he's limiting the bad.
00:46:56But but there's almost no potential for good.
00:47:00I guess that's kind of where you're at there with Brissett.
00:47:03But again, I don't think I do think Rodgers like Rodgers tonight.
00:47:07His offensive line is better than the Patriots right now.
00:47:09And so that's the reason he's able to go out there and make some plays.
00:47:12And yeah, also let him get may make. Yeah, right.
00:47:14They at least allow him to get out of the pocket.
00:47:16The Patriots, the the Patriots front today admitted that they weren't able
00:47:21to keep him in close out the edge.
00:47:23And that's why he was able to get out and make some plays where the Patriots
00:47:25had a new problem, right?
00:47:26The Patriots offensive line Jacoby Brissett wasn't able to do anything.
00:47:29May made one or two more plays than him.
00:47:31But it's not like he was out there running 40 yards down the field.
00:47:35They're making a ton happen.
00:47:36It's still going to be difficult on a consistent basis.
00:47:39You're not going to be 100 percent up front,
00:47:40but it's going to be difficult from a consistent basis
00:47:42to make all those plays and make up for that bad.
00:47:45How many as you said,
00:47:47we see two, three, four Jets defenders in the backfield at once.
00:47:51There were like multiple plays
00:47:52where there was like a meeting in the backfield of Jets defenders.
00:47:56So again, like adding to your point, it's not like Rogers where he's feeling
00:47:59some heat and then it's like, oh, there's no one over here.
00:48:01I'm just going to roll out like there's nowhere.
00:48:03There was no virtual people set to go.
00:48:06Yeah. Yeah. It's again, as we said at the top,
00:48:09it's a problem that might not have a solution.
00:48:12So that's kind of the fear here is
00:48:16I don't know what you do to fix it.
00:48:17You've got to roll out some patchwork offensive line against the,
00:48:22you know, against the Niners in 10 days.
00:48:24And it doesn't matter who's behind their quarterback.
00:48:26It's going to be scary on the flip side of the ball.
00:48:29We'll talk a little bit about the Jets
00:48:32and what we saw out of Aaron Rogers.
00:48:34Physically speaking, he looked like a different person
00:48:37than he did in the first couple of weeks where he looked a little he looked old.
00:48:42And again, understandable.
00:48:43It's coming off of a major injury that there'd be a little rust,
00:48:46but he looked a little old.
00:48:47He looked old and slow and tentative in that first game against the Niners.
00:48:50A little bit better last week, but not you saw flashes of what he could do today.
00:48:55I think you kind of saw all of it, including mobility
00:48:58and getting out of the pocket and running.
00:49:00And, you know, we're not going to go as far as to say prime Aaron Rogers,
00:49:03but this was a good quarterback that they faced today,
00:49:08which changes changes a lot about,
00:49:11you know, what you can think about the Jets here,
00:49:13because after a couple of games, it's I'm not sure.
00:49:16And now it's, you know, again, it's the Patriots,
00:49:19but it's the Patriots who have a good defense.
00:49:21And Rogers made a lot of plays and looks very Rogers esque tonight.
00:49:25And I don't know how much better they would have been
00:49:28if Jawan Bentley was in the game. Right.
00:49:29And Mayo mentioned after that, it doesn't look like he's going to be back
00:49:32for a while, but eight incompletions from Rogers.
00:49:34They were working.
00:49:35He was working the crap out in the middle of the field
00:49:36with not only his tight ends, but also his running backs.
00:49:39When they got running backs on linebackers on the outside,
00:49:43they toasted Jelani to buy.
00:49:44They had Rayquan McMillan in a blender when they got it to the running backs.
00:49:47And so he understood that the Patriots running the Patriots linebackers
00:49:51and coverage were weak and took advantage of it.
00:49:53And then he obviously hit.
00:49:54Hey, he had a bunch of completions down.
00:49:57There's already the one for the touchdown where he put Alex
00:49:59Austin in a spin cycle, the one to Garrett Wilson, which was great.
00:50:02Like he just looked like he had control, total control of the offense
00:50:06all night long.
00:50:06And number eight's back for right now.
00:50:09Anyway, his best throw didn't even count.
00:50:11There was some penalty.
00:50:12I don't know if it was holding, but it was early in the game.
00:50:14He threw a deep throw into the end zone.
00:50:16It hung up in the air.
00:50:17And I'm like, I wonder where this is going to land.
00:50:19Oh, yeah. And it hit his receiver on the hands.
00:50:21I was like, oh, my God.
00:50:23Like I've been saying all week that Rogers is still that dude.
00:50:26He may not be mobile, but he can still put the ball wherever he wants that throw.
00:50:29I was just like, I don't know why no one's talking about this.
00:50:31And I'm not going to hype him up if I don't have to.
00:50:33But that throw was stupid.
00:50:34But at the same time, Rogers exploited their weaknesses,
00:50:38but the Patriots needed to do better.
00:50:39The tackling was unacceptable.
00:50:42You had like before Garrett Wilson, like he made Gonzo miss once.
00:50:45Obviously, the Alex Austin, John Jones missed some tackles.
00:50:49Rayquan McMillan looked really rough in space.
00:50:51Jelani to buy before he had the suplex.
00:50:53He'd gotten juked by Breeze Hall.
00:50:55And I said, that's a stupid penalty.
00:50:56I think that's why he did it, because he was like, oh, I got you this time.
00:50:59And then it was just like, oh, I literally I'm sorry.
00:51:02When he was holding it, when he was holding up, I'm like, oh, God, please.
00:51:06Don't just like don't do something stupid
00:51:08because it felt like he was he was a little pissed off
00:51:10and then obviously had the penalty.
00:51:12But Jelani to buy knowledge, they gave him way too many soft edges.
00:51:16Tobias said he got greedy when inside on a linebacker
00:51:18that gave Aaron Rodgers an escape route early on.
00:51:21They had Daniel equality trying to set the edge on some plays
00:51:24where like Joshua was dropping back or they ran twists.
00:51:27That didn't work.
00:51:29Yet Keon White giving up the edge once like you can't keep doing this.
00:51:32And I know they're playing pocket passers, but these are experienced
00:51:35pocket passers who have you let them roll out and buy time.
00:51:38They'll do it.
00:51:38Do you know Smith killed them with it last week and it's happening again?
00:51:42So it's the tackling.
00:51:43It's the letting Aaron Rodgers
00:51:44outside the pocket getting moved off the ball at times.
00:51:46Now, the run defense, I think, did figure it out later in the game.
00:51:49But there was a stretch there where they looked bad as well.
00:51:52So bottom line, the fundamentals were lacking.
00:51:54I asked Jelani to buy if he had to do with a short week.
00:51:56He didn't want to bite.
00:51:57Romandre Stevenson did acknowledge that the short week had something to do
00:52:00with at least the offense's lack of energy.
00:52:02So you have to think, well, your fundamentals are shot in your defense
00:52:05that very rarely is bad on fundamentals.
00:52:07And we've seen you perform well in that regard, especially as tackling.
00:52:10Like they have the coverage breakdowns in the DPI on Marco Wilson last week
00:52:14that basically gifted the Seahawks a couple of touchdowns.
00:52:18But I mean, this was just a completely different thing
00:52:20where you are just breaking down and they didn't practice this week.
00:52:23We saw it was just walkthroughs.
00:52:24They didn't have pads or anything.
00:52:26I think that may have had something to do with it,
00:52:27but still completely unacceptable performance from this defense.
00:52:30Second week in a row that you just need to see more from the group
00:52:34that we keep saying, oh, they're one of the best defenses in the league.
00:52:36Mina Kimes is trying to hype them up on ESPN.
00:52:38They made Mina look bad.
00:52:40Friend of the show, Mina Kimes.
00:52:41They did now because they just didn't do anything
00:52:44they were supposed to do tonight.
00:52:45Mina, right before they are sleeping.
00:52:48Yeah. Are we sleeping on the Pats D?
00:52:50She said, yeah.
00:52:51We talked about Tyler Conklin this week, tight end who isn't that good.
00:52:55Isn't very good.
00:52:56He's bounced around.
00:52:57I think he was at the Patriots at one time.
00:52:59Guess Tyler Conklin Statlin tonight.
00:53:00Five for eighty ninety three.
00:53:03Five or nine.
00:53:03They allowed. Yeah, five.
00:53:04They allowed Tyler Conklin to get ninety three yards on their defense.
00:53:08This defense that's supposed to be one of the best in football,
00:53:10which again, I think it is.
00:53:11But they are like the offense dealing with a lot of injuries.
00:53:14They obviously traded.
00:53:14Yeah, I got bad at the end.
00:53:16Yeah, it's gotten bad.
00:53:17Peppers goes out.
00:53:18Obviously, Bentley.
00:53:19So like, it's just it's Alex Austin got hurt.
00:53:22Yeah. Let me ask you this, guys, because this was
00:53:25my other headline from tonight rather than,
00:53:29OK, we saw May and whatever happened happened
00:53:33was exactly what you guys were talking about.
00:53:37The the you know, the the poor effort on defense, the sloppy,
00:53:40the missed tackles, the late hits, whatever you call it.
00:53:43But the most concerning thing out of all of this.
00:53:45And again, I'll say this, I'm so surprised
00:53:49by Patriots fans being surprised with what we're seeing on offense
00:53:53because I don't know what it is you expected from this group
00:53:56at this point, given, you know, what they've got back there.
00:54:00But after two weeks, we definitely gave Mayo
00:54:05and the coaching staff a lot of props for having these guys ready to play
00:54:09and going out there and like playing professional football
00:54:13and the whole run through the wall stuff and the way they were after week one.
00:54:17The stuff I heard after this game is a far cry from that.
00:54:21Well, we just didn't have it and we weren't hustling.
00:54:24And I don't know why we came out with no energy.
00:54:26What? How where the do you how do you do that?
00:54:31And again, short week is short week.
00:54:33But when your opponent is also on a short week, there's really no excuse.
00:54:36You guys didn't get jerked around.
00:54:38Everyone plays Thursday Night Football.
00:54:40It's just part of how it goes.
00:54:41There's your you can't be as bad as they are
00:54:45and have a low energy, low effort game, because that's kind of
00:54:51bailing on your coaching staff here
00:54:53or way earlier than you want to hear that kind of stuff.
00:54:57I understand late in the year after a two and 14 start to the season
00:55:00and you're like, they're mailing it in now.
00:55:03But I this I didn't love hearing that.
00:55:07Like and the shoulder shrug of like, I don't know why we didn't come out like that.
00:55:10We just didn't have it.
00:55:12The turnaround from, like you said two weeks ago, where best condition team,
00:55:16we worked our butts off in training camp.
00:55:18We work harder than you take him to the hill.
00:55:20You guys don't. We're better than you through the fourth quarter.
00:55:25That died tonight, for for lack of a better term.
00:55:27Like, yeah, that died.
00:55:28That was nothing.
00:55:30They were not disciplined.
00:55:31Yeah, they were not disciplined.
00:55:33They did not.
00:55:33They did not seem to care down the stretch in this game.
00:55:35It was just it was weak.
00:55:37And I'm not you know, I'm not Mr. Hot Takey.
00:55:39I don't like, you know, the headline, the big drama.
00:55:42But really listening to those press conferences, I started to think like
00:55:46this is so much different from where they started.
00:55:48I legitimately think that if they lose in San Francisco and are not competitive,
00:55:52this could get ugly very quickly.
00:55:54And, you know, we were wondering, OK, they they're so high and,
00:55:58you know, they're so excited when they win.
00:55:59What's it going to be like when they lose?
00:56:01It's one thing like against the Seahawks where, OK, it was a close game.
00:56:04That's clearly a very good and talented football team.
00:56:07At least you were hanging in there.
00:56:08But getting embarrassed like this in their only primetime game
00:56:11of the entire season against the division rival,
00:56:13Jabril Pepper said of himself like this was not it.
00:56:16So I frankly am also going to be very curious to see what happens
00:56:21in San Francisco and after and even how they speak this week,
00:56:23because I don't know how much buying you're going to be able to maintain
00:56:27after two straight weeks where your defense, the unit that even last season
00:56:30until the like very end of the Jets game in the finale,
00:56:34that defense was keeping you in every single game, like even in the blowouts.
00:56:37They were still doing as best as they could to keep the thing
00:56:41keep games competitive.
00:56:42This was not that.
00:56:43So it's way too different.
00:56:45I, I honestly am a little bit worried and I hope that they can have a week
00:56:49of practice and really retain that buy in because it's not looking good.
00:56:53I did not love that for sure.
00:56:56The you know, and we'll get back to Mike and Taylor in just two seconds there.
00:57:00But that was something that was concerning.
00:57:02We have some of that sound.
00:57:04I will get it on the air in a little bit.
00:57:06And we want to hear it because it was a little bit surprising to hear
00:57:09so many of the players say that
00:57:12after all that we'd heard from them, kind of recapping everything from tonight.
00:57:17And again, the Patriots lose 24 to three.
00:57:19They had less than a hundred yards of total offense entering the final drive
00:57:23of the night when Drake may finally entered the game, made his NFL debut.
00:57:29You know, was relatively shaky, but that's what you would expect.
00:57:32Almost through an interception on his first pass.
00:57:35I ended up going four for eight for 22 yards, a nice throw to pop Douglas on fourth
00:57:40pop Douglas on fourth down, converted another fourth down with his legs,
00:57:44took two sacks, got hit, scrambling once out of the pocket.
00:57:49So he hit the turf a couple of times, but he lived to tell about it.
00:57:53So you did get a taste of what he might look like out there,
00:57:58which would be a frazzled mess kind of running for his life,
00:58:01but making some plays here and there.
00:58:03Gerard Mayo after the game was noncommittal as to whether or not
00:58:07Drake May or Jacoby Brissett would play next week.
00:58:12So we are not entirely sure who the quarterback is going to be.
00:58:15Both guys speak.
00:58:17Well, I wouldn't say both guys,
00:58:20both Gerard Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt
00:58:24will speak to the media tomorrow.
00:58:26I wonder whether we will see or hear an announcement there.
00:58:30I'm not entirely sure, but it is something we're going to look for,
00:58:34you know, from those guys.
00:58:36And we will definitely cover it and bring that to you as well.
00:58:39Back to Mike and Taylor here.
00:58:42Any other. Yeah.
00:58:43Any other thoughts here before we wrap this in again?
00:58:48Go for it.
00:58:49I don't want to Andre. Oh, yeah.
00:58:52Oh, OK. Third week, I said it in the last week.
00:58:55I was like, eventually this is going to happen.
00:58:57It's going to come at a bad time.
00:58:58Now, obviously, the game was pretty out of hand.
00:59:00They were trying to come back.
00:59:01Who knows what would have happened or not?
00:59:03But that's three weeks in a row.
00:59:05The remandery Stevenson is fumbled.
00:59:06Finally lost it when he was asked about it.
00:59:09He was just like, I got to hold on to the ball.
00:59:10And like, yeah, obviously.
00:59:11But I don't know.
00:59:12It felt like a little bit of a lack of accountability
00:59:14because fumbling was an issue for remandery earlier in his career.
00:59:18Even in 2022, we always think of the Bengals game refumbles
00:59:21right as the Patriots are trying to go in to score in the low red zone.
00:59:25I don't know if maybe it's because of the regime change or what,
00:59:28but this is unacceptable.
00:59:30He cannot fumble again this season.
00:59:32And we're talking about a team that really doesn't fumble much at all.
00:59:35Like if you go to last year, outside of the quarterbacks,
00:59:38no one was really coughing up the football.
00:59:39So that's an issue that's got to get squashed.
00:59:41You can't be coming out every game as a franchise back
00:59:45and put the ball on the ground.
00:59:46They talk about it.
00:59:48Ball security is job security.
00:59:49That's a Bill Belichick special.
00:59:51Bill Belichick mentioned last week on his underdog show with Matt Patricia
00:59:54that ball security is job security.
00:59:56And he said specifically to them,
00:59:57remandery Stevenson has heard that from me a thousand times.
01:00:01It's funny because he says,
01:00:02apparently they're taught like you carry the franchise any time you get the ball.
01:00:06What was remandery Stevenson's nickname?
01:00:08The franchise.
01:00:09So I'm sorry, but I don't think that was a coincidence.
01:00:11Yeah, no, not at all.
01:00:13That that that is those are aligned in the same.
01:00:16That was the reason that those both were said to him.
01:00:18But now he yeah, you got to hold on to the football.
01:00:20It's that simple, especially again, when it happens in two straight games
01:00:23and you get bailed out, you get lucky that it bounces your way
01:00:26and you get it back to have that happen.
01:00:27Three straight games, he puts the ball on the turf.
01:00:29That is not good enough.
01:00:30That's something that they need to ingrain in those guys heads.
01:00:33Because again, it happens tonight.
01:00:35I didn't even realize this is just me kind of on a side note
01:00:38when we were switching on the batter.
01:00:39I was looking at my fantasy score.
01:00:40Remandery Stevenson had point three fantasy points this week
01:00:43because he had twenty to twenty six yards rushing in a fumble.
01:00:46Terrible. Not a good day for a month.
01:00:49Not a good day for a month.
01:00:50No, it's not a good day for a month because of the fumble
01:00:52and because of the fact that they couldn't get the offense running through him.
01:00:55Six carries 20 yards.
01:00:56That's not going to do it. Yeah.
01:00:58I'm sorry for your fantasy team.
01:01:00Thanks. Yeah.
01:01:01I don't like to bring up my fantasy football team, but I didn't.
01:01:04It's all right. Yeah.
01:01:06I didn't like I didn't like remandery his vibe.
01:01:08But what I'll say, if I'm going to give an excuse here, he did get benched.
01:01:13And you do feel a little bit of shame when you do that.
01:01:15And they lost and he didn't do anything.
01:01:18So sometimes you're just pissed off and it might just be pissed off.
01:01:21And the result more than lack of accountability.
01:01:24And again, I'm always careful to read too much into
01:01:28what people say after a game, because I think it's an incredibly
01:01:32challenging and awkward thing that they're asked to do,
01:01:36which is when their blood is up after a game.
01:01:38Oh, 10 minutes later to have us idiots in their face,
01:01:41you know, saying shit like, how did you feel?
01:01:44You know, like and so that stuff is rough.
01:01:47Yeah, totally fair.
01:01:48And that's and so I don't like to overanalyze him.
01:01:52I don't. It's the same with the Gerard Mayo thing,
01:01:55leaving the door open for Drake May.
01:01:57They might not actually leave the door open for Drake May at that moment.
01:02:00He's genuine.
01:02:01He just might have been in a haze.
01:02:02We got to see.
01:02:03And when we hear that, it's put it on the headline,
01:02:06put it on the front of the newspaper right now, put it on the website.
01:02:09Like, that's just what we do.
01:02:10And that's where it comes from.
01:02:11And again, on the other side of things, if he came out and said,
01:02:15no, Jacoby's our quarterback, kind of like what Dave Canales just did
01:02:18in Carolina, where he came out after the game on Sunday, said
01:02:22Bryce Young's our quarterback.
01:02:23And then the next day they rewatched the film and they said, wait, never mind.
01:02:26It's like you kind of got to keep the door open if you're just trying to be honest.
01:02:29And so he tries to do that.
01:02:30That's what he says.
01:02:31And we may go and run with it.
01:02:33They might have had some veterans come into the locker room
01:02:35and be like, dude, we got to do something.
01:02:36So you never know, right?
01:02:38You sometimes you got to you got to gather all that intel and information.
01:02:42And you don't want to talk out of school because, again, exactly that.
01:02:46Jacoby's our guy.
01:02:47You look at it.
01:02:48You talk to Van Pelt or Kraft comes knocking on the door.
01:02:51And it's like, yeah, Jacoby's not the guy.
01:02:53And be like, oh, OK, Mr.
01:02:54Kraft, you know, so it's the doors, the doors clearly open.
01:02:59You're always with that.
01:03:01I'll say if there was no doubt, then you just say it.
01:03:05The fact that he said it means, yeah, you know, everything is technically
01:03:09on the table, even if it isn't necessarily going to happen
01:03:11just based on the way he's talked about it up until this point.
01:03:14So we'll see what happens there regarding the May situation.
01:03:19Would you guys imagine you could have a decision as early as next week?
01:03:22I can't see as early tomorrow.
01:03:23I can't see that.
01:03:24But I don't think so.
01:03:25I feel like I'm a rash, but we've got a problem.
01:03:28We got a problem because that's all he's going to be asked about tomorrow.
01:03:33And obviously he's not going to answer it tomorrow.
01:03:36But that's now become the thing.
01:03:38I know it would have been whether he said it or not.
01:03:40So I guess we'll close the show by asking you guys once and for all.
01:03:44But answer both questions.
01:03:46Will Drake may start next week.
01:03:49Do you think that's that's the direction the Patriots are going to go?
01:03:53And should he start next week?
01:03:55Answer both of those questions.
01:03:57I don't think he will start next week.
01:04:00I think that prime landing spot is still the week after San Francisco.
01:04:04That's just kind of where I've thought this all along.
01:04:05And I think that's the direction we're going.
01:04:07They give Jacoby one more week, one more blowout, one more gaff, if you will.
01:04:12And then go there. That's what I think. What should they do?
01:04:15I think that's what they should do as well.
01:04:17I think they give Jacoby another chance.
01:04:19Give them these 10 days and get themselves right everywhere.
01:04:22Give me maybe even more than those 30% of the reps he's getting
01:04:25and continue to acclimate him in the offense.
01:04:27But give Jacoby a chance.
01:04:29Give Drake may another week to not have to go against that daunting
01:04:32San Francisco defense, which now granted, they're dealing with injuries
01:04:34more so on the offensive side of the football.
01:04:37So that might be.
01:04:38And I'm not going to call that a winnable game,
01:04:40but that might be a game where they might be able to keep a little bit close.
01:04:42So long story short, I think the landing spot for May is still week five
01:04:46against Miami at home. I'm on the same page.
01:04:48I don't think this is the week to play him,
01:04:50even though they do obviously have more time
01:04:52because that San Francisco game at San Francisco defense is not a fair unit
01:04:56to put your young quarterback in.
01:04:58And again, like you said, see if you can just put decent offense
01:05:02on the field after you get all this time to improve.
01:05:04Maybe you get some more health on the offensive line.
01:05:06I'm not sure.
01:05:07And also waiting an extra week could potentially help them
01:05:09with those offensive lines with the offensive line situation.
01:05:12And I'm still I don't want to see Drake May out there
01:05:15when things are this bad up front.
01:05:16But I mean, you guys did make some fair points.
01:05:19I'm more open to it, really, just because it actually happened.
01:05:22Like, I can't pretend that it's not on the table anymore,
01:05:25even though Mayo acknowledged that he was hesitant to put Drake May up there
01:05:28because of the offensive line. So and I still want to wait.
01:05:30Well, quickly, before we before we close.
01:05:32Well, I don't think they're going to do it.
01:05:34There's definitely a chance. Oh, yeah.
01:05:35This is like a 10 day break. Open the door.
01:05:38This completely opened the door.
01:05:39The blowout into the 10 day week
01:05:41completely opened the door for them to potentially put Drake May on the field.
01:05:45Yeah, I'm at a loss.
01:05:46I actually don't have an answer to either question.
01:05:48What what what they're going to do and what?
01:05:50Come on. Come on.
01:05:51No, meaning like what? What do you think they'll do?
01:05:54I've always like I said, I would have just gone Drake to start the year
01:05:57and just lived with the chaos
01:05:59because I didn't think he'd be any more ready after week four than he is now.
01:06:02So if it's a readiness thing, I would have just had him figure it out.
01:06:05But the problem is now the more you watch, the more you're like, this is gross
01:06:08because now you know what now you know exactly what you're subjecting him to.
01:06:12So it's actually it gets it gets harder to stay with that opinion.
01:06:16My opinion was play him week one.
01:06:18What are you doing here?
01:06:19Like this is what you do.
01:06:21Throw the kid out there and figure it out.
01:06:22It's going to suck.
01:06:23But that's what you do when you're a bad team and you draft
01:06:26draft a quarterback that high.
01:06:28But it's so unimaginably bad that I almost don't.
01:06:32It's I don't think he'll be ruined.
01:06:34I I'm now starting to question what, if anything, is going to be gained.
01:06:38That being said, it's going to happen one way or another at some point.
01:06:43And I'll stick with that point.
01:06:45I'll stick with my my guns there that I don't think he'd be any more ready
01:06:49in week four, five, six or seven than he would have been week one.
01:06:52Only difference in in week six, he'll have had zero NFL experience,
01:06:57whereas if he'd played in week one, he would have had more.
01:06:59So by week six, week seven, he might have had some clue what he's doing out there.
01:07:03So I think you're delaying the inevitable.
01:07:05That being said, it's frickin San Francisco, and it's just against this line.
01:07:11It's it's it's almost not fair.
01:07:16On the road, so it is rough, so I will say that.
01:07:20I'm going to predict I'm going to stay with the week.
01:07:23I feel like everyone was saying week five felt like the right spot anyway.
01:07:26Once you got through this little gauntlet, I think that's
01:07:29I think that's probably it.
01:07:31But as you said, Mike, if I had to guess what they're going to do,
01:07:35I think they might I think they might do it.
01:07:37I really do.
01:07:39I really do. I think it's possible.
01:07:41It's firmly on. It's firmly on the tables.
01:07:44Gotham City strikes again.
01:07:46It's firmly on the table.
01:07:48So I don't know. It's interesting.
01:07:50But, you know, this at least it'll give us something, right?
01:07:54At least we'll get something.
01:07:55And I am all over the place.
01:07:57I to answer more definitively, I'm leaning that they will do it
01:08:01and I'm leaning that they should do it.
01:08:03But I don't feel as strongly about the should part
01:08:07as I did at the beginning of the year, because it gets worse
01:08:10and worse and worse to watch.
01:08:11Funny that we both kind of seeded our points a little bit after today.
01:08:15Yeah. You know, you guys are in the middle now.
01:08:18No, it's true.
01:08:19I never fully got it.
01:08:21But holy shit, man, it's bad.
01:08:23But two things I'll say on that, too, is like at what
01:08:27the it does feel like the 10 days here, give it one more week
01:08:32and then you almost have like two weeks until the Miami game at home.
01:08:35It's a given starters reps.
01:08:37This is what I would do.
01:08:39I would go 50 percent starters reps this whole 10 days or more
01:08:43and give him a lot of reps and letting Jacobi know
01:08:47this is going to be your last start, you know, like it.
01:08:49But we're going to we're going to the kid.
01:08:51Make it very clear.
01:08:52So we're going to start working him into the practices more
01:08:55because we're going to make a switch and that's it.
01:08:58And then and then try to make it that Miami game maybe.
01:09:01Or I don't know whether you can do that to somebody.
01:09:04But I think you just start to behind the scenes.
01:09:06You start to prepare May as if he's the starter,
01:09:10even though he doesn't start in San Francisco.
01:09:12Maybe that's a play because you do have this extra time
01:09:15and extra reps where you can do that.
01:09:18And you're not rushing to get, you know, you know, get get ready
01:09:22for somebody here after they heal up for a couple of days.
01:09:25You know, maybe, maybe that's what they do.
01:09:27So we'll we'll see how it goes.
01:09:29We shall see how it goes.
01:09:30We'll see. What's the what's the over under?
01:09:32What's what's the I can't wait to see the prize
01:09:35picks more or less on Bosa sacks.
01:09:38Oh, boy. Four and a half.
01:09:40Take more. Take more.
01:09:44Take more. Yeah.
01:09:46Anyway, that's it. We're good, guys.
