Thousands evacuated in Czech Republic amid severe floods

Thousands of people have been evacuated from in the eastern region of Moravia in the Czech Republic, and more than 260,000 are now without power.

00:00Storm Boris swept through Central Europe, causing flash floods, deaths and mass evacuations

00:18In the eastern Czech region of Moravia, thousands were evacuated as the storm brought some of
00:23the heaviest rains seen in years to the region, with more than a quarter of a million households

00:34In neighbouring Poland, towns were evacuated and emergency services were deployed to fight
00:40the flood.
00:41Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk appealed to those refusing to evacuate amid the storm
00:47and said the state would provide financial help to those affected by the extreme weather.
00:54In Austria, dozens of municipalities were declared disaster zones by authorities as
00:59residents were evacuated.
01:03A civil defence alert was issued and a firefighter died while responding to the flooding.
