00:00How long does it take you to write a song?
00:02Every song is different.
00:04This one was actually relatively quick.
00:07I think some things that are so personal and so real, just come out of me very, very quickly.
00:12So this took probably like an hour and a half, two hours.
00:16Wow.
00:17Yeah.
00:18It was super quick.
00:19Super organic.
00:20Super.
00:21Yeah.
00:22So real.
00:23But are there songs that really take a lot longer to write?
00:26Some songs take months, some songs I can't ever finish.
00:30Some song takes 15 minutes.
00:32It just, it kind of depends on what I'm writing about.
00:35It depends on my headspace in the moment.
00:37It depends on who else I'm working with.
00:40Sometimes you flow really well with the other person, co-writers, co-producers.
00:44This one I wrote all on my own, so I was very locked in.
00:47But yeah.
00:48But I read that you've called this song a healing anthem.
00:53Why do you call it a healing anthem?
00:55Is there something new about you that your fans will discover through this song?
00:58I think I've always made it known that I want to heal people.
01:02That's a big part of my mission.
01:05You know, I feel like music is medicine.
01:07And if I'm able to help heal people through my music, that's the greatest thing ever.
01:13But this song is definitely a bit slower for me, more ballad-like, much more vulnerable
01:20than sometimes I get.
01:21So yeah, it's really opening up this next chapter for me in my career, in my art, that
01:28is very vulnerable and very meaningful.
01:31Yeah, hopefully people can connect.
01:34I've always wondered about that.
01:35I've always felt that songwriters, when they come out with a song, that it's really like
01:40writing in a journal but then putting it out there for everyone to judge, to listen to,
01:45to appreciate.
01:46It is weird.
01:49It is an interesting concept, because especially when music becomes your job, it's almost like
01:55it's very scary releasing a song out into the world, because it no longer becomes personal
02:01to you.
02:02It becomes everyone else's songs.
02:03And I love that.
02:04I love that my music is able to connect with people, but it's also a bit scary because
02:09no longer is this my little baby that I've created on my own.
02:13It's now out in the world for everyone to listen to and judge, as you said, and critique.
02:18So yeah, it's a bit of an interesting one.
02:20Now that you mentioned that, are there songs that you've decided to just keep to yourself
02:24because you don't want to...
02:25Oh yeah.
02:26Oh, okay.
02:27Is that like a whole bunch of songs?
02:28So many of them.
02:29I have so many songs.
02:30Some of them will never see the light of day just because I've moved on from that period
02:33of my life, and some of them will never see the light of day because they're so personal
02:37to me or who I've written about or what I've written about that I don't really want other
02:42people to hear that.
02:44But it's really just an outlet for you.
02:46If you're experiencing something, it's automatic for you to just put it into song, and then
02:51it's just a decision later on whether or not you release it.
02:54I'm getting better at expressing my emotions in other ways, but it's definitely been music
02:59for me for such a long time.
