00:00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat podcast
00:00:25here on the CLNS Media Network presented by all of our wonderful friends over at GameTime
00:00:30Prize Picks and PXG.
00:00:33We'll hear more from all of them later, but it is Brian Hines back as always with Alex
00:00:38Barth.
00:00:39We got another game preview because the Seattle Seahawks are coming to Foxborough for the
00:00:43Patriots home opener of the 2024 season.
00:00:46They'll look to get their second win on the board and start a little winning streak here.
00:00:51We'll have Malcolm Butler and the 2014 Super Bowl team, some of them, not all of them back
00:00:56in town to ring the bell on the lighthouse to kick this one off.
00:01:00So should be some good energy there down in Foxborough, hopefully, especially coming off
00:01:05a win.
00:01:06Vibes seem pretty good with the players.
00:01:08So hopefully the crowd and the fans can fill up Gillette and we have a good season opener
00:01:12on our hands.
00:01:13But it is the Seattle Seahawks want to know as well coming to town, Mike McDonald, their
00:01:19new head coach.
00:01:20He's actually like the only younger head coach than Gerard Mayo.
00:01:24He beat him out by, I think, like a year and a couple of months there.
00:01:26So new coaching staff for them, kind of similar team and players, right?
00:01:32It's still Gino Smith at quarterback, those big three at wide receiver.
00:01:36We can talk all about those guys, but just in general here, Seahawks versus Bengals who,
00:01:41you know, the Patriots pulled the upset off.
00:01:44You seen any similarities in their roster or maybe some key differences that could really
00:01:48kind of swing this week to match up here.
00:01:50Well, I think first off, let's remember a lot of people, how they talked about the Bengals
00:01:54before and after they beat the Patriots, right?
00:01:56Suddenly the Bengals were the Slester team.
00:01:58Now it's well, you know, the Seahawks are no Bengals.
00:02:01I don't know about that.
00:02:02I think the Bengals have a better roster than the Seahawks.
00:02:04I think if there's a difference and this is an important difference, I think the Bengals
00:02:08have a better overall roster, but where they are deficient, just matched up really well
00:02:16with what the things the Patriots do well, mainly on the line of scrimmage.
00:02:21You're not going to get that with Seattle.
00:02:23This team will not be as easy to run the ball on.
00:02:26They will contend more in the run game and be more multidimensional offensively than
00:02:31Cincinnati will, and they should be better coached.
00:02:34So I just, it's interesting if we were to give a Madden ratings since now he's probably
00:02:40a better team, but I think Seattle prevents more matchup problems for the Patriots than
00:02:45the Bengals did.
00:02:46Yep.
00:02:47So, uh, I mean, they were very familiar.
00:02:50The Patriots with that Cincinnati coaching staff, Alex van Pelt was in that division
00:02:55for, you know, four years going up against Zach Taylor, who got out coached himself.
00:03:00Wasn't a great week one showing from Zach Taylor.
00:03:02Now it's Mike McDonald.
00:03:04They still have some familiar familiarity with him because he was with Baltimore, right?
00:03:08So that's another AFC, uh, North team.
00:03:10Now he goes to Seattle.
00:03:12He brings that defense with him.
00:03:14But it's not, you know, it's less to prepare, had the whole off season to kind of get ready
00:03:19for Cincinnati when they wanted to.
00:03:21So, you know, you were saying this is kind of their first game week, right?
00:03:25First full game week of preparation.
00:03:28Are you, how are you just expecting Patriots there to kind of attack that and go about
00:03:33this week?
00:03:34Yeah.
00:03:35So, I mean, well, to your point, I think there is a level of familiarity, especially for
00:03:38the offensive coaching staff was what Mike McDaniel's going to Mike McDonald's going
00:03:41to bring.
00:03:42I, the thing I'm interested is like, what do they build on?
00:03:46Right?
00:03:47So especially upfront offensively, we talked all summer about, you're not going to be able
00:03:52to learn as much about the line as you need to learn until you get into regular season
00:03:56games, because that's just the way NFL training camps in the preseason are structured.
00:04:01Will you now have a game of data to go off of?
00:04:04You have a game of film to go off of and the Darien Lowe has looked like the starting left
00:04:08tackle at practice this week.
00:04:09I would say that's a good sign, but do they build more off of that?
00:04:12You know, some opportunities do they, they put more in maybe, you know, six, seven man
00:04:17protections in order to have the more time to throw the ball, more throw the ball down
00:04:21field.
00:04:22Do we see more of a play action element this week than we saw last week?
00:04:24Obviously something that was, was lacking from the game plan.
00:04:28Um, that's, it's going to be the adjustments.
00:04:31It's going to be okay.
00:04:32We, we know that there were certain deficiencies.
00:04:34We on the outside, no looking at it, there were certain deficiencies in week one.
00:04:38They're not going to be fixed, fixed going into week two.
00:04:40They're not going to get a new left tackle for week two, right?
00:04:42But they've seen it on tape.
00:04:45They've seen how a defense reacts to it.
00:04:47Now, how do you move forward?
00:04:50How do they move forward and put in adjustments to allow themselves to be able to do more
00:04:55with those deficiencies and just essentially three days, four days.
00:04:59Yep.
00:05:00They're going to want to run the ball.
00:05:01It'll be more challenging.
00:05:02Right.
00:05:03You look at that Seattle front, like Byron Murphy guy, we talked a lot about, I think
00:05:08in the pre-draft process, even though he wasn't the guy who made a lot of sense for
00:05:11the Patriots, uh, like that kind of defensive tackle, defensive end position.
00:05:15Like he was a beast in week one, they have Leonard Williams there who can really mess
00:05:18things up and boy, I'm off a kind of on the edge.
00:05:21So it'll be more of a challenge running the ball.
00:05:24So I think how they'll react with their passing attack now, hopefully they can more of those
00:05:28play actions.
00:05:29But I think we talked after the Cincy game was there were opportunities for Jacoby to
00:05:34kind of push the ball down the field a little bit.
00:05:37And, you know, talking to AVP today, it seemed like it was really, you know, Jacoby understanding
00:05:43that it was a close game.
00:05:44It was a low scoring game.
00:05:45He wanted to be on a little bit more conservative side and, you know, just take the check down
00:05:50in front instead of pushing those, those passes and tighter windows downfield.
00:05:53But maybe now they're in a situation where they need those and they're not playing with
00:05:58the lead.
00:05:59And is he going to be able to do that?
00:06:00And a big part of that also pushing the ball downfield is you need to be protected.
00:06:04Now you have Mike McDonald coming in here with all these different, you know, the pressure
00:06:07packages that he's made really popular across the league now.
00:06:11So it'll be a challenge for them to try to kind of block this thing and try to push the
00:06:17ball downfield a little bit.
00:06:18But do you think they maybe could find some more success in the play action passing or
00:06:22just try to find a few more of those deeper plays down the field to get this passing attack
00:06:27cooking a little bit more?
00:06:28Well, I think it all starts up front and I am going to sound like a broken record here,
00:06:32but I don't care.
00:06:33I think part of the reason they didn't hit it, you go over set, didn't hit some of those
00:06:36open receivers.
00:06:37Some of those deeper parts of the field in week one was he simply didn't have the time
00:06:41he and he is a veteran knew he wasn't going to risk it.
00:06:44He knew he just had to get the ball out.
00:06:45So if you can keep it blocked or give the quarterback more time, that's going to help
00:06:49play actions going to help with that.
00:06:50Just establishing the run as a whole.
00:06:52The thing about these defenses like Seattle runs, it's, it's so complex and it puts so
00:06:56much on the quarterback.
00:06:57So, okay, why doesn't everybody run it?
00:06:59If it's, if it's such a chore for the quarterback, well, it's really hard to do.
00:07:03You have to have really smart, aware players on the defensive side of the ball that just
00:07:08not everybody has, but part of what comes with that is there's a lot of processing that
00:07:14goes on.
00:07:15And if you become one dimensional, you remove a lot of that.
00:07:19Now if they have to, you know, if as a defensive player, you have to at the top of your mind,
00:07:25if you're just, all right, you know, we're playing pass, we're playing short pass, that
00:07:28makes a lot easier.
00:07:29If you have to consider your short pass responsibility, your play action responsibility, your run
00:07:33fit, your contained all at once.
00:07:36Now that may all take a quarter of a second.
00:07:38That quarter of a second can be very valuable.
00:07:40So the Patriots being more multiple, I do think establishing the run is still important.
00:07:45They do still need to run the ball well in this game, but then building off of it and
00:07:50keeping the defense off balance is what's important because when the defense gets uncomfortable,
00:07:54it gets a little harder to be as complex as they maybe want to be.
00:07:58So I think pass protection, getting the quarterback time opens up more of those explosive plays.
00:08:04How do you do that?
00:08:05And this is the core concept of this offense, establishing the run and hitting off play
00:08:09action.
00:08:10When you start doing that and suddenly the defenders are looking over both shoulders
00:08:12every time the ball is snapped, well, now you're going to have them thinking a little
00:08:16bit more and that's what these defenses don't want.
00:08:20Bill Belichick would talk about this all the time.
00:08:21We talked about the slot during that era and even the game last week.
00:08:25You don't want players thinking, you just want players playing, right?
00:08:27Just be comfortable, know what you're doing, go out there and play, don't overthink it.
00:08:30If you can start hitting them with lefts and rights, right, and just be a little more complex
00:08:34on offense.
00:08:35Now the defense has to think a little more and they can't play as quickly.
00:08:38Defense relies a lot on playing quickly.
00:08:40Yep.
00:08:41So let me just ask you then, do you think they can establish the run again?
00:08:47Maybe not to the extent they did against Cincinnati again.
00:08:49The Seahawks front is a little bit tougher, uh, you know, against Denver last week, neither
00:08:54of their top two running backs, Julia McLaughlin or Javante Williams averaged over three yards
00:08:57of carry.
00:08:58Their lead in Russia was actually Bo Nix.
00:09:00Um, we could talk about Bo Nix later cause watching him was tough against, uh, Seattle,
00:09:05but do you think just say it, Brian, he sucks.
00:09:07He sucks.
00:09:08It was road.
00:09:09Nick's it was road.
00:09:10Nick's road.
00:09:11Nick's met the NFL.
00:09:12He came out in full force there.
00:09:13But, um, yeah.
00:09:14Do you think the Patriots can again, kind of establish the run and really just lean
00:09:20on remandre?
00:09:21I think we would both prefer a little bit more Antonio Gibson if he's healthier, right?
00:09:26To kind of lessen the remandre workload.
00:09:28But just as a whole, do you think this offense can really establish the run again against
00:09:32the Seattle front?
00:09:33Yeah, it's going to be tougher.
00:09:35I think some of it comes down to how's remandre Stevenson feeling after that game last week?
00:09:39Now he got a veteran day off on Wednesday, which I think is great.
00:09:42Um, but they're going to, and they're going to need to be more multiple in it.
00:09:45It was, they, they tried the outside zone.
00:09:48It didn't work.
00:09:49They just kind of went leaned on duo.
00:09:51Can they make the outside zone work more?
00:09:53Can they mix in some inside run?
00:09:55They can't do it, but I don't think it's going to come as easy.
00:09:57Uh, the other thing, the Seahawks defense, really good tacklers.
00:10:00So you're not going to get as many of those.
00:10:02You shouldn't probably, you shouldn't expect, I should say, to get as many of those missed
00:10:06tackles as you did last week.
00:10:07Now, maybe you do.
00:10:08Maybe remandre just takes it to another level.
00:10:10It'd be great, but I don't think you can count on that.
00:10:12Yep.
00:10:13Now let me ask you, cause he's mentioned, you know, adjusting will be big for the offense.
00:10:17I don't think you were with us at practice, but Evan and Taylor had a long, uh, argument
00:10:23over the Patriots run game.
00:10:24And it's always funny watching them go at it cause you know, Taylor's Mr. Optimistic.
00:10:28He'll tell you first and Evans usually on the other side of the spectrum.
00:10:32But, uh, and I don't know if Evan just was talking to this value.
00:10:35I think you guys just did catch 22, right?
00:10:37But um, Evan's whole point was they should add more motion into the run game, right?
00:10:42Cause you were running these duos and you, you get remandre on a corner, which is fine.
00:10:47But you know, Evan was saying, let's put some motion in there to just bump that corner out.
00:10:53And then remandre just, you know, he doesn't have to break that tackle.
00:10:56So do you think, you know, and I think Taylor was saying, you know, they did that a little
00:11:01in Cleveland and he's going to wait and give them, you know, give them time to install
00:11:05that as the season goes on.
00:11:06Do you think that would be a worthwhile addition and maybe we could start seeing more of that
00:11:12and stuff to make lighter boxes in the run game and make things a little bit more complex
00:11:16for the defense against this rushing attack?
00:11:19We should.
00:11:20I mean, Van Pelt's running, like you said, whether we will or not, I don't know, but
00:11:23this was part of the problem with the offense.
00:11:25They tried running the last three to four years.
00:11:27There was no motion.
00:11:29And just to be clear, I try to give this explanation at least once a year, because I think people
00:11:32lose track motion is kind of an umbrella term for two things.
00:11:37There's shifting, which is when a guy moves before the snap resets.
00:11:42When we talk about motion, we're talking about somebody moving as the ball is snapped.
00:11:47It doesn't have to be what the dolphins do, which by the way is illegal, but just kind
00:11:52of some eye candy for the defense, dress it up, that kind of thing.
00:11:55Yeah.
00:11:56They should probably be using more of that.
00:11:57I think it would help them.
00:11:58I understand kind of easing that in.
00:12:00You're getting into a little more complicated concepts.
00:12:03It's not graduate level, but you're, you're definitely going up a step.
00:12:07Once you add that for a team that struggled to line up in the preseason, just overall,
00:12:11I understand kind of needing to take it slow there, but you had one procedural penalty
00:12:17week one.
00:12:18It was a guy that came to the game cold mid drive.
00:12:20I think they might be ready for it.
00:12:22And I'd like to see a little more of it.
00:12:23It doesn't need to be, I think Seattle had the most motion last week, right?
00:12:26They're like 83% of snaps with motion.
00:12:29They were definitely up there.
00:12:30I know.
00:12:31The number is 83.
00:12:32If they weren't one, they were up there.
00:12:34I know the saints were really high up there cause they got, uh, one of the QBX running
00:12:39their offense now, but yeah, Seattle was definitely up there.
00:12:43Ryan Grubb who their, their new offensive coordinator came from the university of Washington.
00:12:47He was really kind of, uh, using a lot of those bells and whistles pre-snap and they
00:12:52got some big rushing lanes open for Kenneth Walker who we'll talk about in a bit here.
00:12:56But, um, yeah, I think that would only kind of help things going forward.
00:13:00Again, it's week one, but maybe we see more of that going forward.
00:13:04Yeah.
00:13:04I would say again, it doesn't need to be that level.
00:13:06That's why I brought that number up.
00:13:07I don't know that you need to be at 83%, but I think, I think the Patriots were like 30th
00:13:12though.
00:13:12So yeah, if you could split the difference maybe or something, it was something like,
00:13:17like 10%, like if you can get that up to 2530, that's probably a better spot to be.
00:13:23Yep.
00:13:24I agree.
00:13:24Um, all right.
00:13:26Rest of the offense.
00:13:27But before we do that very quickly, price picks America's number one daily fantasy
00:13:32sports app with over 5 million active members.
00:13:35It's the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports because unlike
00:13:38other apps on price picks, it's just you against the numbers.
00:13:42I know Caleb Williams and those rookie quarterbacks didn't have a great first week,
00:13:46but only one Caleb William passing yard gets you one win on price picks every week in
00:13:50September.
00:13:51That's right.
00:13:52Only one yard gets you an automatic win every football weekend in September.
00:13:55So that's three more weeks of free W's and that's gone when September ends.
00:14:00And there's nothing worse than someone you pick in your lineup going down with an
00:14:03injury.
00:14:04So price picks is the only real money daily fantasy platform with an injury insurance
00:14:08policy.
00:14:09So they stay in play.
00:14:10Even if one of your players gets injured, if your player leaves in the first half and
00:14:14doesn't return price picks, your picks are still live.
00:14:18We'll have plenty of Patriots picks, um, this week, Jacoby percent to Mario Douglas
00:14:24for Mondra.
00:14:24If you want to go back to him, there's plenty of lineup options.
00:14:27We'll give some of our picks later in the show.
00:14:30So download the price picks app today and use code C L N S and get $50 instantly.
00:14:34When you play just $5, that's code C L N S on price picks to get $50 instantly.
00:14:40When you play $5, you don't even need to win.
00:14:43We hopefully you do, but you receive the $50 bonus anyway, because it's guaranteed on
00:14:48price picks, run your game.
00:14:51Okay.
00:14:52Uh, back to the offense.
00:14:53Let's talk about some more of those skill guys.
00:14:55Yeah.
00:14:56I want to see more Jalen Polk.
00:14:57We talked about it after, you know, week one, he only had one target looked like he
00:15:02was getting open a lot today.
00:15:03I was asking receivers coach Tyler Hughes and he kind of agreed.
00:15:07He said, you know, he showed really good separation ability, but sometimes he kind
00:15:12of pointed to the game plan week one.
00:15:14He's like, sometimes things open up in the game plan that you're not preparing for.
00:15:18But he said, we want to lean on him more, uh, moving forward.
00:15:22So he only played 53, 54% of the snaps, which was the lowest among the four
00:15:27receivers who played.
00:15:28So I want to see more Jalen Polk out there and I want to see him get more targets.
00:15:32I think that would be big kind of for this offense.
00:15:35Yeah, I think he definitely earned a bigger role.
00:15:37It's just going to be tough because KJ Osborne seems to be the most trusted
00:15:41receiver and it's really hard to get both of them on the field at the same time and
00:15:47do what the Patriots want to do schematically.
00:15:49So I, it's, I think when people, I don't want to put words in your mouth, I think
00:15:55he played the right amount.
00:15:57I think it's about getting him the ball more.
00:15:59Cause he's earned it.
00:16:00Yeah.
00:16:01If that makes sense.
00:16:02Like I don't need to.
00:16:04When he was open, what Tyler Hughes said, like, cause he was open a lot in that
00:16:09game, but he was like the third or fourth progression or he was on the backside.
00:16:13So it was tough.
00:16:14So my kind of question was like, now do you want to move him up maybe in the
00:16:18order where, you know, Jacobi starting at Jalen Polk, now that you know, we can get
00:16:22open and that's when he brought up the game plan.
00:16:24So now maybe the game plan shifts that when he's out there, he's your first or
00:16:28second read, and that hopes to get him the ball more often is kind of what I
00:16:31think we're trying to get out here.
00:16:33Yeah.
00:16:33I mean, he's also going to be, I think, facing tougher corners.
00:16:35So I, yeah, but I moving them up in their progression is something
00:16:38that makes sense to me.
00:16:39I want to see more pop Douglas.
00:16:40And I understand why he's not on the field as much as he is because
00:16:43they, they want these jumbo sets.
00:16:45They want Kate Walsh out there.
00:16:47They, they want guys who can block out there.
00:16:48I get that, but make more of it when he's on the field.
00:16:52And this goes back to the motion thing.
00:16:54Can we get pops a pop pass and around jet sweep screen, something like that.
00:16:59I think they only called one screen last week.
00:17:00Right.
00:17:01Uh, do I remember that correctly?
00:17:03Um, it wasn't a lot.
00:17:04It might've, maybe it was like two, I don't know, but they didn't
00:17:06call our screens last week.
00:17:07So I don't even remember the one.
00:17:09What was the one?
00:17:10I just remember hearing that somebody at some point I heard.
00:17:14They definitely threw one to remandre and I think it got blown up right away.
00:17:17So it was definitely, yes.
00:17:19Uh, but you know, working more screens into the game plan for
00:17:22pop or remandre or whoever, but I, I want to, I never want to force
00:17:27the ball to a player, but at the same time, there are some guys that
00:17:30you just want to get the ball in their hands and let them create.
00:17:33And you can scheme ways to do that.
00:17:35Now it's, it's a fine line.
00:17:38I'll tow that line with pop Douglas, especially this week when, um, you know,
00:17:43you're going to need guys who can create after the catch, you're going to need
00:17:46guys who can create explosive plays without the quarterback
00:17:49having to do most of the work.
00:17:51And by the way, how about us calling for a Patriots team to run more screens?
00:17:54Talk about it being a whole new era.
00:17:57Yeah, seriously.
00:17:58I was kind of surprised though.
00:18:00We only saw one last week because that's a big part of the offense.
00:18:03We saw a ton like in practice in training camp.
00:18:07They would start every, you know, kind of practice with a walk through and
00:18:12they'd be thrown these tight end screens all the time and the tight end screens
00:18:14are a big part of the offense too.
00:18:16So maybe we see some of those, the tight ends there, but yeah, pop, he he'll
00:18:21probably get a lot of, uh, Devon Witherspoon, which could be, will be a
00:18:25fun matchup no matter what, but maybe pop could use his quickness there.
00:18:29Um, I'd imagine Taekwon, this might be kind of a, just go stand over there
00:18:34and occupy Tyreek Wollin on the fields, on the boundary side.
00:18:39So it might be kind of a quieter game from Taekwon, but maybe you still see one
00:18:42of those, uh, just kind of throw it up to kind of keep the defense honest and
00:18:47respectful of his speed and kind of space things out.
00:18:49So, but I wouldn't expect much against him, against Tyreek Wollin out there.
00:18:53He's a really good corner.
00:18:55Um, him and Witherspoon is a good combo there, but, uh, yeah, more pop, more
00:18:59poke, hopefully I'd imagine it's still those kind of four receivers.
00:19:04I don't really see booty or Baker working their way, uh, into this lineup yet.
00:19:08I don't know if you feel much different about that, but I think it's going to
00:19:11take an injury for one of those guys.
00:19:12Now, now booty was practice squad player of the week.
00:19:15So maybe here on some more reps, but it seems like they're
00:19:18going to keep a tight rotation.
00:19:19I sort of understand why they are.
00:19:21We were talking about, you know, getting Polk and pop more involved.
00:19:24Those are probably your two best receivers right now with Kendrick born out.
00:19:28So I understand why they're keeping a tight rotation.
00:19:30I think it needs to take an injury, but maybe Keisha and booty
00:19:33earned himself five or 10 snaps after being practice player of the week.
00:19:36Yep.
00:19:38Uh, anything else you're looking for on the offense?
00:19:41I mean, again, you mentioned quickly earlier of a Darian low looks like the
00:19:46left tackle and then Michael Jordan still is the left guard because city.
00:19:49So hasn't practiced.
00:19:51Um, we don't have the injury report yet cause it's a West coast team,
00:19:53but he was a DNP yesterday.
00:19:55So offensive line looks like they're going to start with what
00:19:58they finished with last week.
00:20:00Um, but yeah, anything else with that, with this kind of offensive game
00:20:05plan going up against McDonald there?
00:20:08Um, I, so I kind of touched on it.
00:20:12I, I liked the Caden Wallace tackle eligible, uh, muscle tight end,
00:20:16the muscle tight, which I love that.
00:20:18Um, I would keep that up.
00:20:22They need to be a little more varied out of it was a set, uh,
00:20:2517 runs on 18 snaps, I think.
00:20:27Yeah, I believe so.
00:20:30And I'm not saying throw it to Caden Wallace, but if you're going to do six
00:20:34into protect, which they're going to need to do at times, I don't know that
00:20:37Caden Wallace stay in as the six man, then, then remandering Stevenson or
00:20:40Hunter Henry, and if it's, if you're losing like Henry going out in the
00:20:43pattern, you can do that in, I mean, you could do it in 12.
00:20:47You can also do it in 11 and just not have a tight end.
00:20:51And it would be like keeping Hunter Henry in a block.
00:20:53So, and then maybe down the road later this year, you leak
00:20:55Caden Wallace out, you throw it to him, but yeah, I don't hate
00:20:59he's catching a touchdown.
00:21:00I like that.
00:21:01Look, I like the look of him in there.
00:21:04I would just throw a little more, uh, little more out of that.
00:21:08Look a little more diversity, keep them, you know, a little
00:21:11more honest out of that.
00:21:12So exactly.
00:21:13Yeah.
00:21:14Little less predictable and look, there is an element to their offense.
00:21:17I think somebody asked Scott Peters today, like, how does it feel that
00:21:19you told the entire world, your game plan and you still executed it?
00:21:22Like there is an element of their offense.
00:21:24That certainly is.
00:21:26Everybody knows what we're going to do.
00:21:27We're just going to execute it at a level that you can't stop it, which
00:21:30there's something to be said for that, especially the scene when
00:21:32it comes to running the ball.
00:21:33But you don't want to become totally one dimensional out of
00:21:37any one specific sort of look.
00:21:39Yep.
00:21:40But that can also be one.
00:21:41Sorry.
00:21:41Just, it's funny.
00:21:42Cause it's Seahawks week.
00:21:43I was thinking about this the last time these teams met, which was in 2020.
00:21:47Also week two, they had that cam Newton goal line package that like dominated
00:21:52through the first seven quarters of the season and they threw unstoppable.
00:21:56It will, they threw it early in that game.
00:21:59They wasted it.
00:22:00Right.
00:22:00They burned the, they burned the, the, uh, the shot.
00:22:03And that's essentially, it's not a shot play, but out of that look, it's a shot
00:22:07play, whereas if they'd run it earlier in the game when Seattle is still
00:22:10struggling with it and then thrown it.
00:22:11So I don't know.
00:22:13You need to come out the first play and go four verts with, with
00:22:18Wallace being the extra protector.
00:22:19But I do hope they have some sort of, of, of counter off of that.
00:22:25That.
00:22:25All right.
00:22:26You know, you've been low in the box against us with this
00:22:29tackle eligible look all day.
00:22:32Well, now we're going to hit play action and come behind it and we can do it.
00:22:34Cause we have the extra time because we have Kate and Wallace in the block.
00:22:38Yep.
00:22:39They have some awesome games against the Seahawks.
00:22:41It's absurd looking back mentioning that one, the super bowl, obviously the one
00:22:46where Gronk and Chandler, uh, and in the end zone here in Foxborough, the other
00:22:52one in Seattle, this one in Seattle, just awesome games with them.
00:22:55So hopefully, uh, we have another, we do have only, or one of Brady's only
00:22:59two rebel speed games, which I try not to think about, but I know that one
00:23:02always, it gives like, it was a bad game with the helmet.
00:23:06So, um, I have a friend who has a Tom Brady poster and it's not like in game.
00:23:11It's like Brady just cut out on like a Patriots logo background.
00:23:15But I'm like, I can tell you exactly what games that's from.
00:23:17And he's like, he's not really a football nerd.
00:23:20How the hell do you know that?
00:23:21And I'm like, you see that helmet?
00:23:22And he just rolls his eyes at me every time.
00:23:23And I'm like, you need to get rid of that post.
00:23:25It stands out.
00:23:26It really does stand out.
00:23:27Um, we'll also call her shot.
00:23:30They're going to hit a big run play off a toss or a pitch because
00:23:34shotgun shotgun toss or under, or, but maybe shotgun we'll, we'll see
00:23:40because, uh, Denver hits a few off Seattle and they've been looking
00:23:45like they might hit one of those.
00:23:46So, uh, you're going to see some draws out of shotgun and then a shotgun toss
00:23:51and they're going to break one in the run game.
00:23:53Uh, so put that in your notes.
00:23:55I don't know if you can take that to Vegas or a sports book somehow, but,
00:23:59um, that's going to be our, that's going to be our call for the day that
00:24:03they're going to, you know, go the draws and then a toss and then who
00:24:06knows, maybe they'll hit a play action, pass RPO off that as well.
00:24:09So, uh, look for those out of shotgun, those toss plays, um, as well.
00:24:14Uh, and then are they taking them to hell?
00:24:16Are they going to take them to the hell in this game?
00:24:19That that's, well, that's more of the other side of the ball.
00:24:22I'll save that to a big picture.
00:24:24I think the Seattle team's going to be harder to take to the hill.
00:24:27You had a bangles team that was poorly coached that had a ton of internal
00:24:32infighting that historically starts slow.
00:24:35That was dealing with these massive expectations, a ton of weight
00:24:38that team tapped out.
00:24:39Let's be honest.
00:24:39I don't mean to take anything away from the Patriots because
00:24:41they made them tap out, but that team tapped out.
00:24:45Seattle got off to a rough start last week.
00:24:47They did not tap out.
00:24:49They fought back.
00:24:50The Patriots punched the bangles in the mouth and the bangles coward.
00:24:54Seattle's not going to cap based on what we saw last week.
00:24:56Seattle's not going to cower like that.
00:24:57And I would bet with the coach coming from the Ravens who famously maybe
00:25:01more than any team in the NFL can take a punch and give it right back.
00:25:05They're not going to, they're not going to, you know, ball up either.
00:25:08So it'd be great if they can take them to the hill.
00:25:11I think it's going to be a lot harder to get there against this team.
00:25:14Then it was against Seattle.
00:25:15Yep.
00:25:16I agree with you there, but let's talk about the other side of the ball.
00:25:19Go to the Patriots defense very quickly before we do that.
00:25:23Game time.
00:25:25We all love going to football games in the fall.
00:25:29Billy O could have a top 15 team as they come back to Chestnut hill next week.
00:25:34If they beat Missouri this weekend for red bandana night, primetime
00:25:37Saturday night, which would be an awesome game, you get tickets for that.
00:25:41Or you get tickets for Seahawks at Patriots this Sunday on the game time app.
00:25:45And they have a new feature called game time picks that makes getting tickets to
00:25:49see your favorite teams play live even easier because it filters out the fluff
00:25:53to show you incredible deals on great seats.
00:25:55So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
00:25:59You can get into Gillette this weekend for as little as $130 on the game time app.
00:26:05So head to head there to see their lowest price guaranteed seat views, all in
00:26:09pricing and of course, game time picks, which make it even easier to save more on
00:26:13sports tickets.
00:26:14And you can also go to comedy theater or your concert tickets.
00:26:17I know concert season's kind of winding down here, but there's always
00:26:20concerts somewhere you can go and see, and you can use game time to go see them.
00:26:24So take the guesswork out of buying all your tickets with the game time app.
00:26:27So download game time today, create an account and use code C L N S for $20 off
00:26:32your first purchase terms apply again, create an account and redeem code C L N S
00:26:37for $20 off download game time today.
00:26:40What time is it game time?
00:26:42All right.
00:26:43Uh, Patriots defense, they will face off, uh, again, Ryan grub.
00:26:49We mentioned him, the new offensive coordinator for Seattle, Geno Smith,
00:26:53still at quarterback, your big kind of question here is three really good wide
00:26:57receivers, DK Metcalf, JSN, Tyler Lockett, and then Kenneth Walker in the backfield.
00:27:03Are you loading up the box to stop Kenneth Walker and try and seeing if the
00:27:09like Christian Gonzalez can just handle these receivers or are you devote devoting
00:27:13more resources to the secondary and hoping your run defense can kind of take care of
00:27:18Kenneth Walker, which that's kind of what Denver did.
00:27:21And then Kenneth Walker Walker just lit them up in those light boxes.
00:27:24But how are you kind of approach, uh, going after the Seattle Seahawks offense?
00:27:29So I think it's what I think they'll do is let's see how to run the ball stress,
00:27:36you know, strong tackling gang tackling and limit the big place.
00:27:40I think you might see some of that 10 on 10 where they trust Christian
00:27:44Gonzalez in certain situations, but I think the plan is going to be to let
00:27:48them run all day, let them run themselves out again, swarm to the ball,
00:27:52tackle the ball and, and make them March their way down the field without
00:27:56mistake and see if they get impatient.
00:27:58I don't think this is not the kind of defense is going to sell out to stop the
00:28:02run.
00:28:03They're built to stop the run and just in general, I don't think they're
00:28:07going to send any extra resources there when I don't say not any, I don't think
00:28:11they're going to send a ton of extra resources that way, maybe a little here
00:28:13or there, but not a lot overall.
00:28:16Yeah.
00:28:16That's the thing.
00:28:17Like with Denver, they let them run, but they don't have a great run defense,
00:28:22right?
00:28:22Like they don't even have a great defense.
00:28:23It's Pat Sertan in the secondary.
00:28:25And that's really it.
00:28:26With this Patriots defense, the run defense, like last year was one of the
00:28:31best in the league.
00:28:32I know they had that one drive against Cincinnati where some of their gaps were
00:28:35Ron and they got beat a couple of times, but they have a really good run defense.
00:28:39That's the strength of this defense.
00:28:40So take your chances there that they can slow down Kenneth Walker who also
00:28:46we'll see if he plays.
00:28:47He didn't practice yesterday.
00:28:48He has an oblique injury again.
00:28:49That's unfortunate.
00:28:51We don't have the injury report yet, but he doesn't, if he doesn't play, that
00:28:54changes a lot for me, I'll just say that because Zach Charbonnet who was not nearly
00:28:59the same level back, I think he had like 12 yards on like seven carries last week.
00:29:04So big difference to Walker who had over a hundred yards, but right.
00:29:09Yeah.
00:29:09Him if, if Walker doesn't play, then it's definitely get back in coverage,
00:29:13take away the big play, make them nickel and dime.
00:29:15Cause he's not going to break tackles.
00:29:17He's not going to create hidden yardage the way Walker does.
00:29:20Yep.
00:29:21So kind of a, would you say similar game plan to Cincinnati?
00:29:25Like they played a lot of coverage too in that game.
00:29:29Like you have Gonzalez.
00:29:31I don't know if you'd shadow DK cause they have other talent, like their receivers.
00:29:36I think he is going to shadow DK just because John Jones is such a good matchup
00:29:42for Tyler Lockett that I, I don't feel the need and he's not a good matchup for
00:29:46Metcalf and that's nothing against John Jones.
00:29:49I, we know he can bunch above his weight, but Metcalf is on another level.
00:29:52Physically.
00:29:53Um, those just make sense.
00:29:55The only change I would make is if JSN really starts getting in the slot, maybe
00:30:00you move John Jones in the slot and see if Alex Austin or Marco Wilson with help
00:30:05does enough against Tyler Lockett.
00:30:07That's, that's the adjustment I'd make.
00:30:08But I mean, similar, I think you, you're maybe a little more
00:30:13aggressive in the pass rush.
00:30:14This is a big game for Keon white.
00:30:16Seattle's banged up up front.
00:30:18Uh, George fan, the starting right tackle didn't practice Wednesday.
00:30:21I think his status is like legitimately in doubt.
00:30:23Uh, both their guards are listed on the injury report as well.
00:30:26Um, you know, Charles cross their left axle really good player, but I'd be
00:30:29moving Keon white all over seeing where I can get pressure.
00:30:31I think he can be a little more aggressive from the front, especially
00:30:34if Kenneth Walker is not playing on the backend.
00:30:36Yeah, probably this a little bit of the same though, where you go into that
00:30:39cover too, you take it away over the top and, and you just kind
00:30:42of allow that short stuff.
00:30:43Like one of the passes Gonzalez allowed one of the completions
00:30:47Gonzalez allowed against Jamar chase.
00:30:48I think we remember it's what like second and seven and it's a five yard
00:30:53hitch and he's playing at the sticks.
00:30:56I'll give that up all day.
00:30:57I don't care.
00:30:57I'll give that up all day.
00:30:58Hey, that doesn't matter.
00:30:59I think just kind of a life.
00:31:00You allow those against this offense.
00:31:02That's a win.
00:31:03Yep.
00:31:04I was trying to find it like Gino Smith, his, Oh yeah.
00:31:09His average area yards last week was only 6.7, which was like right in the
00:31:13middle of every week, one passer.
00:31:16Okay.
00:31:17Again, that was kind of Denver's game plan.
00:31:20Keep everything in the passing game in front of you and they let them run.
00:31:24But again, the Denver run defense just was not good.
00:31:27And with all that misdirection and motion we were talking about from
00:31:30their offensive coordinator there, they were able to, you know, hit some
00:31:33really big holes in the run game and really gash them on the ground.
00:31:37So yeah, you hope your run defense holds up and then keep everything in
00:31:41front of you in the passing attack.
00:31:44Take advantage of those interior rushers.
00:31:46Um, Josh Uche.
00:31:48I thought even, you know, I know he had some plays where he lost contained,
00:31:51but I wonder if that's also just, they're letting them go a little bit more.
00:31:54So we'll like to see him against these tackles.
00:31:57See if he can build on that.
00:31:59Um, and yeah, go, go from there.
00:32:01I don't know anything.
00:32:03You mentioned those, uh, fourth corners, maybe third boundary corners.
00:32:08You think it was Marco Wilson and week one over Alex Austin, and then he had
00:32:12the DPI, do you think maybe that flip-flops this week and maybe Alex
00:32:16Austin gets some of those reps?
00:32:18I don't know.
00:32:19Like, that's a good point that you bring up, but I, Wilson's
00:32:23a little bit faster, right?
00:32:25And I just, and he's more experienced.
00:32:27I think he's, if it's on locket, that's probably where I go.
00:32:33I just think he's a better fit.
00:32:35Now, if they're going to try those guys on JSN, then actually I would
00:32:38think it's Austin, who's just a little bit more physically, uh, imposing.
00:32:42But I, I, I, Alex Austin, who hasn't played a lot of football and maybe isn't
00:32:47as explosive an athlete as Marco Wilson.
00:32:49I don't think he is.
00:32:50It's close, but I feel like Wilson's a better matchup between the two.
00:32:55Marco Wilson ran a four, three, five, right?
00:32:59Yeah.
00:32:59I know he's fast.
00:33:01I didn't think it was fast.
00:33:03I didn't know he was that fast.
00:33:04Damn.
00:33:04Yeah.
00:33:05I, I feel like I get what you're saying.
00:33:08Like, yeah, he committed the penalty.
00:33:09So give Alex Austin a shot and it's really
00:33:11matchup wise matchup wise.
00:33:14I would probably go Marco Wilson.
00:33:16Yeah.
00:33:16Austin ran a four, five, five.
00:33:18So yeah, he's a little more like big physical.
00:33:23Yeah.
00:33:24Right.
00:33:25Like if they were for whatever reason going to take Gonzales off of Metcalf, I
00:33:29would go Austin over Wilson there.
00:33:31Yeah.
00:33:31That would, but I think on locket you want, you want somebody a little more
00:33:34quick to speed and just somebody who this is a veteran, very savvy route runner.
00:33:39Just somebody who's seen it.
00:33:41Not that Marco Wilson, you know, is a seasoned vet or anything, but he's, he's
00:33:45seen a little more football than Alex Austin has.
00:33:48Yep.
00:33:48Definitely.
00:33:49Um, anything else defensively I was trying to think like, I don't know, could
00:33:55maybe Isaiah Bolden be the second practice squad elevation, if you want
00:34:00more size in that secondary or it's going to be Michael Jordan, one of them.
00:34:05Do you, do you have any ideas for that second guy?
00:34:07Like Tristan Hill got it last week.
00:34:09Do they bring it up another defensive tackle to try to stop that run game
00:34:13and keep bodies fresh up there?
00:34:15Or are you leaning somewhere else with that second practice squad elevation?
00:34:19Well, because of what we just talked about, I certainly think, uh,
00:34:22Isaiah Bolden would make a lot of sense.
00:34:23My other big question with the defense I'll say overall is just again,
00:34:27where does Keon white play?
00:34:28And he's probably going to line up in multiple spots, but do you put
00:34:31them over the left tackle?
00:34:32Who's their best, like, like in the God of habitats, right?
00:34:36Do you put them on the left tackle?
00:34:37So he's rushing off the blind side where he can maybe be the most
00:34:40effective, just it in X, in terms of X and O's, or do you try to pick
00:34:44match-ups with a backup right tackle or an injured guard and try
00:34:48to take advantage there again?
00:34:49Nope.
00:34:49I think they'll put them everywhere over the course of the game, but you
00:34:52know, third and five Seahawks got to pick it up where the game's over.
00:34:55Where are you putting Keon white?
00:34:58I'm going to be really interested to see how they, how they use him in those spots.
00:35:01Yep.
00:35:02I agree with you.
00:35:03That's their, that's their big pass rusher now.
00:35:05So like to see, I mean, it is, it was encouraging that he was winning on the
00:35:10edge last week because we know he's more comfortable and better on the interior,
00:35:15but yeah, we'll continue to see where he kind of picks and chooses his match-ups
00:35:19there.
00:35:19So, um, any last thoughts on Seahawks offense, Pat's defense, I don't know
00:35:26where you at with Gino Smith, just in general.
00:35:28Um, you know, solid player.
00:35:31I, he's not going to make a ton of mistakes.
00:35:33Like he's kind of a better version of what your co-grouper set is at this point.
00:35:38Um, you know, he's not going to make mistakes.
00:35:41You're not going to be able to rattle them.
00:35:43They rattled burrow last week.
00:35:45They rattled burrow.
00:35:46We kind of talked about this on Monday.
00:35:47Like I think Joe burrow needs a sports psychologist.
00:35:49I think his wrist is fine.
00:35:50I just don't think he believes it's fine.
00:35:52Um, they rattled him.
00:35:54They rattled that offense.
00:35:56Gino Smith's not going to get rattled.
00:35:57He's going to be able to keep that group together.
00:35:59You've got Tyler lock at DK Metcalf, two, two very experienced players.
00:36:02Um, to my point, I get kind of the same point I gave when we were done talking
00:36:06about the Patriots offense and the Seahawks defense, I'm not saying they
00:36:09can't take him to the hill is going to be a lot harder to get them there.
00:36:13Cause this team's going to punch back in, in Gino Smith in a big way.
00:36:16This dude's resilient.
00:36:17He might, he's probably one of the most resilient players in the NFL to have
00:36:19the start to his career that he had and come back and do what he's doing
00:36:22now is incredibly impressive.
00:36:25And it's awesome to hear all these quarterbacks around the league,
00:36:29guys like Baker Mayfield and guys like Mack Jones talk about him.
00:36:32Now it was like a standard for, you know, your career doesn't
00:36:35start the way you want it to.
00:36:36For a long time, a quarterback does a death sentence.
00:36:39And now because of a guy like Gino Smith and Baker as well, to an extent, like
00:36:42that kind of has been disproven.
00:36:44Um, so I have a ton of respect for Gino Smith.
00:36:46I don't take them lightly.
00:36:48I don't, he's not Joe burrow, but I don't think he's a cupcake matchup either.
00:36:53Right.
00:36:53This isn't facing Zach Wilson last year.
00:36:55This isn't who was the backup in Detroit when they played?
00:36:57Oh no.
00:36:58It was golf.
00:36:58Who was, um, they played another really embarrassing backup last year.
00:37:02Who was it?
00:37:04Last year, a couple of them are two years ago.
00:37:07They had a stretch where it was like six or seven backups in a row.
00:37:10Like you're not facing, you're not facing Trevor Simeon.
00:37:13You're not facing Mike White.
00:37:14Didn't they play like, who was there when the, with the Colts,
00:37:19was that like Matt Ryan?
00:37:20Like the guy from Texas, Sam, Sam Ellinger.
00:37:26Yeah, that was, that was, Oh my
00:37:28gosh.
00:37:29So, so yeah.
00:37:30And I don't even want to put Gino Smith in the category with those guys
00:37:34cause he's so much better, but I think people still think of him as the guy
00:37:37that failed out in New York and he's not.
00:37:40And so he's somebody you need to account for.
00:37:43He certainly is, but at the same time, like he can be had, he can be had.
00:37:49You can put him in situations where we'll struggle.
00:37:52It's just going to be tougher to get there.
00:37:53Yep.
00:37:55I agree with you there, but, um,
00:37:59special teams very quickly, and then we'll end with some college football
00:38:03and our Patriots prize picks of the week.
00:38:05But, uh, we can get a, we can get a little Thursday night football talking
00:38:08to also very true, but, um, special teams, if this is going to be another
00:38:14kind of close game, kind of another rock fight, like special teams is
00:38:17going to be very important.
00:38:18You need those hidden yards.
00:38:20Um, hopefully, I don't know the weather for Sunday, but, uh, hopefully
00:38:25Joey sly looks beautiful.
00:38:2879 high 79 just says sun.
00:38:32So no wind 73.
00:38:33Nice.
00:38:36So it should be a beautiful day.
00:38:37So good conditions, uh, for Joey sly and Bryce.
00:38:41I don't know if you can count on a turnover, like from Joe Cardona every
00:38:45week, but if you could just have a nice, solid, special, special teams
00:38:49performance and get when those hidden yard battles, like that's going to be
00:38:52really big, honestly, every week for this team, but in another one
00:38:58of these rock fights like this,
00:38:59we gotta be careful to, uh, Seattle blocked a pump last week.
00:39:02So, right.
00:39:03So they're going to be coming with something.
00:39:05Um, I think you're going to see a better special teams operation
00:39:07than you saw in Cincinnati.
00:39:09So, uh, they had a big return to, I think actually, right.
00:39:13Or no, I'm thinking of the bears, but yeah, the, uh, you got to win again on
00:39:18special and like every week that's going to be a thing they're not talented
00:39:21enough that they can go into a game.
00:39:23Be so, so on special teams and expect to win.
00:39:25It doesn't mean they can't, but it's going to be a lot harder, harder.
00:39:27You, you gotta be the better special teams unit.
00:39:29If you're going to win, if you're the Patriots this year, that's
00:39:31just kind of the reality.
00:39:33And, and that's true in this game as well against the team that had a
00:39:36good special teams game last week.
00:39:38Yep.
00:39:38Michael Dixon.
00:39:39It was great punter.
00:39:40So just shout out him, but yeah, you're not talented enough.
00:39:43So you got to win the hidden yards.
00:39:45Uh, you got to take him to the Hill.
00:39:47That's like, does the take him to the Hill give you like miracle on
00:39:50ice flashbacks when they're doing the skate after the one game?
00:39:54All right.
00:39:55Let's let's.
00:39:57Okay.
00:39:57I know it was an upset, but let's pump the brakes with
00:40:00the miracle on ice, Brian.
00:40:01I'm not saying they're going to be like a Superbowl team, but
00:40:04like, I would remember sitting in camp.
00:40:06Uh, I was talking to our good friend, Kevin stone of the New England
00:40:09football journal when they're just like hammering these conditional.
00:40:13Conditioning drills.
00:40:14And I'm like, you know, the Herb Brooks quote, you're not good
00:40:17enough to win on talent alone.
00:40:18We got to be conditioned.
00:40:20Like you're not getting a little bit of those flashbacks again, not
00:40:23saying they're going to upset the, the Russian, the gold medal, but
00:40:28you know, it's just the, the idea behind it.
00:40:31Yeah.
00:40:31Look, I think there's a reason it was a point of emphasis.
00:40:33I think the coaching staff knew that they, they would have to simply
00:40:36outlast teams in order to be able to win some of these games.
00:40:38And that's good.
00:40:39And, and it's not just running the Hill.
00:40:40I mean, we talked to us, it was a brutal camp overall, the length
00:40:44of some of those practices, the intensity of some of those practices
00:40:46before they even got to the Hill, uh, was a lot, having said the whole
00:40:51slogan of it, I, I bought it so hard on the boogeyman defense.
00:40:56It was my second year covering the team.
00:40:58They were nine and oh, they had those awesome shirts.
00:41:01It was right around Halloween.
00:41:03I was like, hell yeah.
00:41:04I bought it so hard on that.
00:41:06And I looked like an idiot.
00:41:07So it's a cool slogan.
00:41:09Take them to the Hill.
00:41:11Absolutely.
00:41:12Put it on a t-shirt.
00:41:13But I, I want to buy in, but I I'm sure you're shy on the slogans.
00:41:19It's only cool when you win and right.
00:41:21Yeah.
00:41:22Win a couple more games.
00:41:23Actually.
00:41:23Yeah.
00:41:24Win a couple more games, then put it on a shirt and then I'll see how I feel.
00:41:26But no conditioning was a, a main, main focal point throughout camp.
00:41:32That was clear.
00:41:33And I think you kind of saw why on Sunday.
00:41:35Definitely.
00:41:36So, all right.
00:41:37That's our, uh, Patriots Seahawks prediction.
00:41:40We'll have a few other things to touch on, but before we do that, uh, we have a new
00:41:45sponsor that again, we are very excited about, and that is P X G with their new
00:41:50black ops irons, which are a game improvement missile launchers that feature
00:41:56X-Core two technology and a dual cavity design that combined with their high
00:42:00strength, ultra thin claw, uh, steel club face to deliver superior forgiveness,
00:42:05absolutely explosive distances and a field that's softer than a baby bunny.
00:42:11And new black ops irons are incredibly easy to hit and maximize performance.
00:42:15And they're fun to hit because they're only one 49 99, a stick.
00:42:19That's a great price for a great golf iron.
00:42:22Barth and I both went up to the Framingham PXG store.
00:42:26They have a beautiful setup there.
00:42:27A couple of simulators.
00:42:28You can go up, you can get fitted for your clubs.
00:42:31Uh, I went with, uh, my guy, Brian hooked me up hitting them 40 yards
00:42:35longer, adding 20 miles an hour ball speed.
00:42:38He also helped me hit them a little straighter.
00:42:40I took him out to the course last weekend when I got them, you could
00:42:43tell in the median difference.
00:42:45I know you had some similar success as well.
00:42:47Have you gotten out and hit your new irons since you got them?
00:42:51Yeah, I have.
00:42:52It's been great.
00:42:52And for me, it's like, I don't swing that hard.
00:42:55I'll admit that, but just so much easier to get the ball up and straight.
00:42:59That's the biggest problem with my game is elevating the ball.
00:43:01And it's great.
00:43:02You go in and they kind of, they keep handing you different clubs and
00:43:05are, we're going to tweak this.
00:43:06We're going to tweak that.
00:43:06And you see, they set it up on the, on the track, man, where you can
00:43:09actually see the progress where, all right, it's going further.
00:43:11It's going straighter.
00:43:12It's going higher and things like that.
00:43:14So yeah, huge help, huge help.
00:43:16They've been great.
00:43:17And you had some tour like numbers, didn't you?
00:43:19You're like club speed, the ball speed ratio.
00:43:23Yeah.
00:43:23So there's all these numbers.
00:43:24I mean, it's a track, man.
00:43:25Like people have probably seen that they use it.
00:43:27And, and, uh, there's all these numbers.
00:43:31And he points to that.
00:43:31He goes, look at this one.
00:43:32I have, there's like 1.4 or something.
00:43:34And he goes, yeah.
00:43:35So guys like that, that's ratio of club speed to ball speed.
00:43:391.5 is considered elite.
00:43:42And I've only seen that in elite golfers or old people who don't swing hard
00:43:46enough to really register a true number.
00:43:48All I heard was I'm in the elite range, so I'm happy with it.
00:43:51Like that works for me.
00:43:53Corn fairy tour.
00:43:54Here you come.
00:43:55But I think you, you, you were in that elite range too, right?
00:43:58Yeah.
00:43:58I was like one, I think it was like one three, eight to one, four, three, one,
00:44:03four, four.
00:44:04So like a little lower, but in that range too.
00:44:07So we were right there and you guys could all be right there as well.
00:44:11If you take the PXG irons challenge, it's a ton of fun again.
00:44:15And if PXG is new black off irons, don't outperform your current
00:44:18irons by delivering either more distance or tighter dispersion,
00:44:22which means better accuracy.
00:44:23Hit them straighter down the fairway.
00:44:25During your fitting, you'll get a hundred dollar master
00:44:27cards reward card.
00:44:28So hurry up.
00:44:29This offer ends October 7th.
00:44:31Book your fitting today at p x g.com.
00:44:34That's p x g.com.
00:44:36Again, we went to the Framingham, uh, store.
00:44:39They were excellent there.
00:44:40Uh, you could ask.
00:44:41I saw Brian, you saw Brendan, I believe it was correct.
00:44:45So, uh, you can go there.
00:44:47Awesome clubs, uh, make your golf game better, more enjoyable out there when
00:44:52you're hitting it farther and straighter.
00:44:53Definitely.
00:44:54So make sure you guys, uh, check out P X G, but, um, college football
00:45:00or Thursday night football, where do you want to start?
00:45:02Um, let's start college football.
00:45:04Look back and look forward.
00:45:05College football.
00:45:07We haven't really talked about it much.
00:45:08Um, well, I mean, the team's one and oh, nobody's thinking
00:45:11about the draft right now.
00:45:12I know the draft is just all of a sudden like left tackle who we got
00:45:15the dairy low out here playing decent ball against Trey Hendrickson.
00:45:19Um, I mean, one of the, the big matchups this week is local.
00:45:23Billy Oh has done a tremendous job with that Boston college team.
00:45:27Uh, 24th in the nation.
00:45:29They'll they're going to Missouri.
00:45:31Uh, good chance to see not only Billy Oh, but Luther burden, one of the top
00:45:34wide receivers in the country.
00:45:35So that'll be, we can probably make this a Boston sports minute, right?
00:45:38It's Boston college.
00:45:39Yeah, true.
00:45:40So, um, that's like one of the only ranked matchups this week.
00:45:44And there you go.
00:45:45It's Billy Oh, one of the top wide receivers in the country.
00:45:48So really good game for the Patriots, uh, fans to watch anything else you're
00:45:52watching in the college football players, matchups, uh, anything specific.
00:45:56So weird slate.
00:45:57It's a really weird slate.
00:45:59The it's kind of all over the place.
00:46:01Alabama at Wisconsin is interesting just because it's Alabama going to Wisconsin.
00:46:06You never really see that.
00:46:07Um, uh, you know, there's, uh, some of the big time players have bi-week.
00:46:12I, the, the late game, the Colorado Colorado actually, it's not a late game.
00:46:15I think Colorado, Colorado state, or is it?
00:46:18Um, I got it right here this year.
00:46:20I remember it was a late game last year.
00:46:22It's seven 30.
00:46:23So, okay.
00:46:24So, I mean, they, obviously they went down to the wire last year and
00:46:27that was when Colorado was rolling.
00:46:29Colorado has now gotten off to a rough start.
00:46:31They have to go to Colorado state.
00:46:34You're a Patriots fan and you're somebody who wants them to take
00:46:36a tack on the first round, but you're also, also wondering about
00:46:39a receiver, Torrey Horton going up again, uh, the receivers Colorado
00:46:44going up against, um, uh, Travis Hunter is going to be great matchup.
00:46:48That'll be a fun matchup.
00:46:49So, uh, that's probably like the sneaky, most interesting game for me.
00:46:54It sucks that the apple cup and the, uh, platypus trophy are
00:47:00being contested in week three.
00:47:01It feels wrong and gross.
00:47:03Uh, RIP the pack, the original pack 12 pack 12 is back, which is awesome.
00:47:07They need to add two more teams.
00:47:08I would look at Canada, but, um, yeah, it's a weird.
00:47:13The fact that it's a weird slate with no, like incredibly hyped up games.
00:47:17I mean, the game, the game day game is, is LSU at a bad South Carolina team.
00:47:22The fact that it should have been Wisconsin game day.
00:47:26It should have been.
00:47:26Oh, it absolutely should have been because again, we're like,
00:47:29Wisconsin's not great, but what am I going back to Wisconsin?
00:47:31There'll plenty of chances to go down on the sec.
00:47:34But the fact that slate is so weak on paper tells me it's just going
00:47:37to be an awesome week of endings.
00:47:38Like these are always super fun weeks.
00:47:41Yeah.
00:47:41Yep.
00:47:42Uh, the only other ranked matchup is Arizona, Kansas state, which is Friday
00:47:47night, so that'll actually be a really fun game, another draft
00:47:50prospect in that one tech McMillan.
00:47:52Yep.
00:47:52So that would be a good chance.
00:47:53There you go.
00:47:54If you just watch that.
00:47:55And then the BC game, those are like two of your top wide receivers.
00:47:58You can watch, uh, if you want them to go that route, I don't, uh, do you
00:48:01give Billy Oh, any chance down there in Missouri this weekend?
00:48:04I mean, I give him a chance point dog, but.
00:48:08BC's defense has had the upper hand in bull.
00:48:12I mean, obviously against Duquesne, but like they had an upper hand against
00:48:15whatever DJ we on the play has become with Florida state, and it was really
00:48:19just about the offense, not blowing the game.
00:48:21It's kind of relevant to the Patriots.
00:48:22Like it was, it was literally just about the offense, not messing up and the
00:48:25defense capitalizing on the opportunities.
00:48:28This is the first time I think that defense has had a significant mismatch.
00:48:32Luther Burns, really good player.
00:48:33I know he hasn't had a great start, but I really liked Brady cook
00:48:35to the quarterback from Missouri.
00:48:38Um, this is not going to be as simple as the offense being along for the ride.
00:48:42The offense is going to need a punch back in this game.
00:48:45It's a huge test for Thomas Castellanos.
00:48:47It's a test for Bill O'Brien, just designing things on the
00:48:50offensive side of the ball.
00:48:51Things like that.
00:48:52I give him a chance, but this is a Missouri's a top 10 team for a reason.
00:48:56I think that's legitimate.
00:48:57I think they're a playoff team.
00:48:59So this is, this would be a statement statement win for BC.
00:49:02I think even if they keep it close, look, I don't think.
00:49:07I think BC can make the playoffs with or without this win.
00:49:09I actually think this game's irrelevant.
00:49:11I don't think they're getting in as an at-large team, no matter what.
00:49:14Right?
00:49:15Like one loss against whoever.
00:49:17I don't think they're getting in unless they win the ACC.
00:49:20The only way they get it.
00:49:21So they can lose this game.
00:49:22So go unbeaten conference play when the ACC and get it to me, what
00:49:25this game is about is recruiting.
00:49:27To me, this game is about Bill O'Brien showing on a national stage that
00:49:31he's really building something there.
00:49:33And, oh, you beat Duquesne by 50 something points.
00:49:35Congratulations.
00:49:36No, this is about showing that this team is for real.
00:49:39This is a very crucial point on the recruiting calendar.
00:49:42If they can just keep it close in Billy Oak and kind of go to recruits
00:49:45and be like, this is look how close we are to beating a top 10 team in the
00:49:49country, like you're the missing piece.
00:49:50Come on.
00:49:51Like that's the win for Missouri for, for BC is they just look competitive.
00:49:55They just hold up.
00:49:55They go punch for punch covering 17 points would be great for them.
00:49:59I think they can do it.
00:50:01Um, I don't love that.
00:50:02Like, I feel like that's about the right line.
00:50:04I'm not going to give any betting advice, but it's a, it's a chance for, I know
00:50:08there's the kind of joke out there, right?
00:50:09Bill O'Brien's building a monster in, in Chestnut Hill.
00:50:13Well, this, this is how you validate it.
00:50:16If you want that to be more than an internet meme and be like
00:50:18actual national discourse, just going toe to toe with Missouri,
00:50:22I think accomplishes that.
00:50:24Yeah.
00:50:24And then he comes, I mean, if they win, yeah, it's going to be tough, but
00:50:29you could come home next week, top 15 team in the nation.
00:50:34And then you have a primetime game against Michigan state red band and
00:50:38at night, like bad Michigan state team.
00:50:40That's a, that's a brand name though.
00:50:41So a game you should win against a school that a lot of casuals, which by
00:50:46the way, is a lot of BC fan base.
00:50:48A lot of the casuals think is a team that's like good.
00:50:52Then you're going Western Kentucky, Virginia and Virginia tech both suck.
00:50:55You come back here on a Friday night against Louisville at the end of
00:50:59October, he ranked Louisville team.
00:51:01You have the entire eyes of the nation on that game.
00:51:04The, that would be a game day game.
00:51:05If it wasn't on a Friday night and now you're off and running.
00:51:08So yeah, this, the, the upside, if they win this game.
00:51:12All right.
00:51:12Let me ask you this, Brian, to bring it back.
00:51:16What creates more unhinged hype hysteria BC beating Missouri or
00:51:23the Patriots starting two and oh.
00:51:26Uh, I think the Patriots still, just cause it's the Patriots, like they're
00:51:30always going to be bigger, bigger here, but let me ask it, let's say Patriots
00:51:35loose in BC beats Missouri.
00:51:38How big of a story does BC come in Boston and come in Boston?
00:51:42I mean, they're already, is this like B like BC is bigger now than they've
00:51:48been in what since Matt Ryan's been there, but I think nationally, I don't
00:51:52think locally, they're a bigger thing nationally right now.
00:51:55And they are locally.
00:51:56The BC fans are fired up.
00:51:59They've been on the front page of like the Boston globe a few times,
00:52:02which have they been?
00:52:03Okay.
00:52:04Which like, that's all right.
00:52:06Like when's the last time you've seen BC on the front page of the globe?
00:52:09Right?
00:52:10Like that's, that's fair for them.
00:52:12When Felger starts taking the calls, I'll really acknowledge.
00:52:14Well, that's never how long until Felger has to talk?
00:52:17No, but here's the thing.
00:52:19If, if people want to talk about it, he'll talk about it.
00:52:22He'll he'll complain about it, but ratings are ready.
00:52:24How long until.
00:52:26The sports hub has to start talking or any of these outlets have to start
00:52:30talking about BC football, because it's what people are about.
00:52:34Excuse me, if they're six or seven and oh, going into that Louisville game
00:52:39and the Patriots fall to two and five, do you think that would be the point
00:52:44where they're like, okay, we have to talk about BC because they might make
00:52:47the playoffs here when the ACC and the Patriots are back looking at the draft.
00:52:51Is that, is that the point you think maybe?
00:52:53Yeah.
00:52:54Like something around there.
00:52:56Okay.
00:52:56There's, there's, there's potential for juice there.
00:52:58Like there's real, what was it last year?
00:53:01They were like, they got off to like an okay start, but nobody ever did this
00:53:04year, I feel like there's real juice with the program.
00:53:07Yeah, definitely.
00:53:08So that'll be fun to watch.
00:53:10Just even if they can keep it close to Missouri, that that'll be fun, but
00:53:14happy for Billy Oh, what he's building there.
00:53:16It's been a, been a good start, but big first test for our big, another test for
00:53:21uh, here, so that's kind of your college football minute.
00:53:25Uh, any thoughts tonight about.
00:53:29Bill's dolphins.
00:53:30I think, believe it's in Miami.
00:53:32So Josh Allen, uh, got off to a good start for touchdowns.
00:53:37Uh, last week, Miami started slow against Jacksonville, but it kind of came back
00:53:42Jacksonville, kind of Jacksonville and Miami came back.
00:53:45So, uh, any thoughts on tonight's AFC East matchup down there in Miami?
00:53:50So the bills are going to win because one, the sun's down, so they don't have the
00:53:54sun beaten down on the sideline, which we know is a big problem for them.
00:53:57And two, Mike McDaniel doesn't beat good teams.
00:54:00I can't believe Mike McDaniel got a contract extension this off season.
00:54:02He should be on the hot seat.
00:54:03He's not.
00:54:04Um, and it's the early season bills like Josh Allen hasn't taken
00:54:07all those unnecessary hits yet.
00:54:08So I think the bills win.
00:54:10I think the bills went comfortably.
00:54:11I actually think it might be a little bit of a snoozer.
00:54:13I'm looking forward to Arizona state, Texas state and a little bit.
00:54:16Um, but yeah, I, I don't know.
00:54:19I know I should be excited for this game.
00:54:20Like early season, Thursday night football, divisional game.
00:54:22Don't get me wrong.
00:54:23It's great to have football back on, but am I nuts for thinking this?
00:54:26What's the, what's the number?
00:54:28Like, am I nuts for thinking this could be over by halftime?
00:54:31So the bills are underdogs.
00:54:34Oh, really?
00:54:34Well, I'm going to go.
00:54:35They were like two.
00:54:36I looked, uh, about two hours ago, they were two and a half point dogs,
00:54:41which was kind of surprising.
00:54:43I don't get that at all.
00:54:45I think they're going to win, but yeah, there's still, I mean, Miami, like you
00:54:49said, Miami almost choked the game away last week at home or, uh, not almost
00:54:55choked it away.
00:54:55Sorry.
00:54:55Like all balls blew it early.
00:54:57They didn't come out hot.
00:54:58And they're without most or a chains already banged up.
00:55:03Like as always active.
00:55:05I didn't see that a chain is active.
00:55:07Okay.
00:55:07But he's banged up.
00:55:08So we'll see how much he plays.
00:55:10So, um, yeah, I like Buffalo.
00:55:14I just, you can't trust Miami against good teams.
00:55:18And the one thing they have against good teams is early in the year at Miami, but
00:55:22it's nighttime.
00:55:23So how much of an advantage do they have there?
00:55:25So, yeah, I would go Buffalo.
00:55:26I don't know why they're dogs.
00:55:28I would think they're favored, honestly, but they're not.
00:55:32So, uh, I would go Buffalo there.
00:55:35Yeah.
00:55:36Uh, I'm with you and everybody's got, I'm sure Josh and I'll throw four touchdowns.
00:55:39Everybody would get all hot and bothered and I'll just sit here and roll my eyes.
00:55:42I'll take it.
00:55:43He's on one of my fantasy teams, so I'll, I'll, I'll take it.
00:55:46The real, do you have any players tonight in the real league?
00:55:51I do not.
00:55:52No, I'm actually, don't you play Mike this week or does Taylor play Mike?
00:55:57I play Mike big matchup.
00:55:59Did anyone, the Steelers, he has Sam Martin, but he's on his bench.
00:56:03The, uh, the Steelers punters out for the year.
00:56:05Did anyone pick up Corliss?
00:56:06Waitman Patriots legend.
00:56:07Well, yeah, I see Corliss.
00:56:08Waitman has been picked up by pin him.
00:56:11All right.
00:56:11We're paying him up.
00:56:13He's on the bench this week.
00:56:14Good work, everyone.
00:56:16Yeah, I know it's the Steelers offense, but I would also definitely bench my
00:56:21punter when they're playing Denver.
00:56:22There's not going to be a lot of punts in that game.
00:56:25Yeah, that, that's also fair.
00:56:27So, uh, punter league, see all an ass off to a good start for no for us.
00:56:32So we'll keep everyone updated, uh, there as always.
00:56:35But speaking of fantasy, we will wrap up with our prize
00:56:40picks, Patriots picks of the week.
00:56:42Um, are any players you're looking for and I can read you there more or less
00:56:48line, anyone that you think might have a good game or maybe opposite
00:56:51on a bad game for the Patriots here?
00:56:54Well, I mean, let's get remote.
00:56:56Let's throw a Monterey in there off the week.
00:56:58He's coming off of, I'm least interested to hear his number.
00:57:01So Mondre, we have more or less than 63 and a half rushing yards.
00:57:06So up a lot, it was 48 and a half last week, which we soared over.
00:57:11But, um, 63 and a half rushing yards.
00:57:14You could also go 14 and a half receiving yards.
00:57:18You could also go his fantasy score more or less than 13 points.
00:57:22Kind of a fun part of price fixing.
00:57:24Go fantasy score.
00:57:25He's going to run for more than 68 yards.
00:57:27It might like they're going to keep running them.
00:57:30Yeah.
00:57:31Or you pick the Joey slide demon pick last week, which, uh, hires your payouts.
00:57:36That worked.
00:57:37Yeah.
00:57:37Yeah.
00:57:38Uh, Mondre's demon pick is more than half a total touchdown.
00:57:42So rush receiving, you could add that in.
00:57:45So what's the Joey slide one?
00:57:50I don't see him on here this week.
00:57:53Crushing that they're onto us.
00:57:54They know Joey slides a cheat code, so they took them off, but let's go
00:57:59more than 63 and a half rushing yards.
00:58:01I think that's a good one for Mondre.
00:58:04Um, elsewhere we have pop Douglas more or less than 34 and a half receiving
00:58:11yards, more or less than eight fantasy points for pop Douglas.
00:58:15If any of those catch your eye, is that PPR or no?
00:58:18I think it is.
00:58:19I don't know.
00:58:20It might be less than eight points.
00:58:23Really?
00:58:26I mean, what did he have last week?
00:58:28Like 3.2, I think.
00:58:31Cause what he had two catches for 12 yards.
00:58:33So it would have been 3.2.
00:58:34What's Jalen Polk.
00:58:35What's Jim Polk's numbers.
00:58:37We talked up this may be resurgence from him.
00:58:40They have, so they list KJ Osborne over Polk.
00:58:43They have KJ Osborne for 24 and a half, more or less receiving yards.
00:58:47Um, you could go high Kwan.
00:58:50If you think maybe Tyreek Wollin is going to kind of lock him down.
00:58:53You could go less than 20 and a half receiving yards.
00:58:56Nah, I can get that on one catch, but that's, that's the issue.
00:59:00Uh, Jacoby.
00:59:03Um, 183 and a half passing yards, more or less, uh, half a touchdown,
00:59:11more half an interception, more or less.
00:59:14If you think he's going to run again, 15 and a half rushing yards, more or less.
00:59:20He might actually, I think he is going to need to scramble more, but this, this,
00:59:23this, I might take less on that.
00:59:25I feel like there might be a coaching point.
00:59:27Hey, run less, try to throw the ball.
00:59:29And also the Seahawks defensive line.
00:59:31So athletic, it's going to be a lot harder for him to break contain.
00:59:34All right.
00:59:34So less than 15 and a half rushing yards and we'll take Mondre
00:59:39more than 63 and a half rushing yards.
00:59:42That sounds like a winner.
00:59:43And then of course you can pair that with the free Caleb Williams over just
00:59:48half a passing yard square in September.
00:59:51I wouldn't take it if it was Bonick's though.
00:59:53I would not take that one.
00:59:54If it was, you never know what, can we throw a Seattle one on there?
00:59:59We can.
01:00:00Yeah.
01:00:00What do we got for Seattle?
01:00:01Cause we need four, right?
01:00:02That's three.
01:00:04I mean, you can just do three.
01:00:05You can do two, but, um, we did four last week.
01:00:08I feel like four is a good number.
01:00:09Yeah.
01:00:10So, I mean, technically you do need players and on separate teams, but we
01:00:16checked that box with the Caleb Williams one last year, but let's throw a fourth
01:00:20on there.
01:00:20Uh, how confident are you in Christian Gonzalez against DK Metcalf 54 and a
01:00:26half receiving yards for DK Metcalf?
01:00:28I mean, has he allowed that against anybody?
01:00:31Probably not.
01:00:32Honestly.
01:00:33Um, Gino Smith, 221 and a half passing yards.
01:00:38You know what?
01:00:40I almost want to go less on that because like only like eight quarterbacks
01:00:43through for over 200 yards last week.
01:00:45Right?
01:00:47Yeah, honestly.
01:00:49The only thing I would say is if Kenneth Walker doesn't play, are
01:00:54they going to throw it more?
01:00:56Oh, but if Kenneth Walker doesn't play, the Patriots can play the pass more.
01:01:00That's all.
01:01:00That's also true.
01:01:02Um, oh, we got an injury report.
01:01:04Let's see.
01:01:05Oh, uh, city.
01:01:07So the loan DNP for the Patriots, uh, Kyle Duggar, Jameichael Hasey, Leighton
01:01:13Robinson added as limited participants.
01:01:17Um, Kenneth Walker did not participate again today.
01:01:20So two straight days without practice for Kenneth Walker.
01:01:23What happens if we take less on Kenneth Walker and he doesn't play?
01:01:26I would assume it's just, I think it just avoids, well, they have injury
01:01:29insurance, so avoid, oh, that's right.
01:01:30Okay.
01:01:31So avoid, um, I kind of want to go less on, on, um, Gino, Gino, less than,
01:01:40so you can go less than 221 and a half passing yards, uh, less than 31 and a
01:01:46half passing yards, uh, less than 31 and a half pass attempts, less than 21 and a
01:01:53half past completions, or you could go more or less than half of the interception.
01:01:58If you think they're going to pick them off 21 and a half, uh,
01:02:03completions feels high.
01:02:05What did he do last week?
01:02:08Yeah.
01:02:09They only threw the ball 25 times last week.
01:02:12All right.
01:02:12So I want to go less there.
01:02:15Yeah.
01:02:16And yeah, I think let's go less there.
01:02:18So we'll go.
01:02:20Our final lineup looks like Jacobi Brissett, less than 15 and a half rushing
01:02:25yards, Ramondre Stevenson, more than 63 and a half rushing yards.
01:02:29Uh, we have our Caleb Williams free square over half a passing yard.
01:02:33And then Gino Smith, less than 21 and a half past completions.
01:02:37That's our winner that pays out nine and a half multiplier.
01:02:41So that's pretty good payout over on prize picks.
01:02:44Um, if you want to play again, you get $5.
01:02:48If you play $5, you get a $50 instantly win or lose.
01:02:51So you could play that lineup for $5.
01:02:54It's a 47, uh, $47, 50 cent profit right there.
01:02:58Not bad for a little $5, uh, fantasy lineup again, over on prize picks.
01:03:03We'll tweet out that lineup, uh, again.
01:03:07Before the game on Sunday to refresh you guys, if you want to play that, but
01:03:11again, go check out price picks.
01:03:12That'll be our lineup, uh, for this Sunday.
01:03:15So I think that we'll wrap it up.
01:03:18Patriots Seahawks preview.
01:03:21I'm looking to start two and O and build a winning streak going on here
01:03:25to start the Drodd Mayo era in 2024.
01:03:28So we will be back as always next week to wrap it up.
01:03:32We'll have a recap that we'll have a little bit of a different schedule
01:03:37after that, probably because of the Thursday night game, but, uh, should
01:03:40be back Monday to, uh, re recap Patriots Seahawks.
01:03:45Uh, but in the meantime, you can follow Alex on Twitter at real Alex Barth
01:03:48head over to 95, the sports hub.com to read all his Patriots, uh, written
01:03:53coverage, and you can follow me on Twitter at I am Brian Heinz and head
01:03:56of Pat's pulpit.com, uh, to read our coverage over there as well.
