00:00I'm a big fan of like dubbed Italian horror films.
00:20It was really great to come back to this world.
00:22I mean, I don't usually like to do that kind of a thing,
00:25but I just recall the experience of making the film
00:29and the sort of energy and the sort of improv
00:33and sort of having sets and puppets and physical effects.
00:37And, you know, you get kind of lost
00:39in the big Hollywood structure.
00:41And so for me, it was kind of going back
00:43into making stuff the way I like doing it, you know,
00:46and working with people that I love
00:48and both originals and the new cast and everything.
00:52And so for me, and trying to do it in the same spirit
00:56that we did the first one, shoot it quickly,
00:58you know, shoot it, you know,
01:00make stuff up every day on a daily basis.
01:03And you don't get to do that with a lot of movies.
01:06It was important for me that this was a very personal movie
01:09in terms of everything, you know, my feeling about Lydia
01:12and what happens to people as you get older
01:14and the life choices you make and for good and for bad
01:18and the relationships that you have, kids, whatever.
01:21And so everything, you know, you know, like Soul Train,
01:25because I used to love watching Soul Train as a child.
01:28And so even things on the set,
01:31because you're making up a world,
01:33everything on the set has to have some kind of meaning to it.
01:36So for me, I guess the whole thing
01:39is filled with those kind of things.
01:45A lot of them are in there.
01:47I mean, you know, I'm a big fan of, like,
01:51dubbed Italian horror films.
01:53And, you know, in fact, most people should say,
01:56oh, I prefer the original language.
01:58But, you know, for me, I grew up on, you know,
02:01Japanese, Italian, Mexican horror films
02:04dubbed into English that became like a weird poetry to me.
02:08And, you know, things like Soul Train and just everything.
02:11I mean, I truly kind of put...
02:13And that's why we wanted to go back
02:15and shoot in the original location.
02:17You know, everything...
02:19And even seeing the cast,
02:21my first day when I saw Winona and Catherine on the set,
02:24I got very emotional, you know.
02:26And so having that kind of emotion
02:28when you're making something
02:30is a very powerful artistic tool.
