00:00Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro affirmed that peace has won in the country against
00:08the counter-insurgency attacks by the National International Far-Right.
00:15Thousands of people demonstrated on Wednesday in Costa Rica to defend public education,
00:19one of the pillars of his historico-wolfer state.
00:25And Israel intensifies its side of the West Bank during the last hours, where it killed
00:31at least 11 Palestinian citizens, aimed at the deployment of UN serial troops.
00:36Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Ana Marrero from the Telesur headquarters in Caracas,
00:43Venezuela.
00:44Can you stay with us?
00:58In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro affirmed that peace has triumphed in the country against
01:03the consensualism attacks of the National International Far-Right.
01:07After receiving in Caracas a great popular mobilization in defense of democracy, sovereignty
01:14and against violence promoted by extremist sectors of the far-right, the Venezuelan head
01:19of state assured that in Venezuela it was possible to defeat fascism that in recent
01:23years has sought to undermine the peace of free peoples of the world.
01:28In this sense, he urged the people to remain alert for any kind of situation that destabilizes
01:34the country.
01:35On the other hand, he assured that the speech of fraud of the extreme right is an undetainable
01:41statement which is demonstrating each one of the mobilizations they call.
01:52Thirty days of beautiful battle for the truth.
01:58Because the battle that we have given and that we are winning is for the truth of a
02:05country they have wanted to impose a story, to justify violence, they have wanted to
02:14spread hatred, to justify division, intolerance.
02:24But today we can say to the story of lies, today we can say the truth and the love of
02:33the vast majority of this people has triumphed.
02:38Likewise the Venezuelan president affirmed that with the mobilization made this Wednesday
02:42by the Venezuelan extreme right wing, they'd finish dissolving when they'd realize that
02:49they cannot go over the law and constitution.
02:55The fascists there are defeated.
02:57The Seona was defeated today.
03:04The Seona was defeated, but why?
03:12Because she lives on the lie of the ego.
03:19Because she believes she is above the law, the constitution.
03:27Because she believes that only counting on the support of the American empire is enough.
03:34Also the Venezuelan head of state announced that the ultra right wing spokesman was arrested
03:41by order of the Venezuelan attorney general's office on charges of inciting hatred of the
03:48authorities.
03:52Because his spokesman, a man named Pellicer who was captured today by order of the prosecutor's
03:57office because he is one of the main instigators of the disregard of the public authorities
04:02and the law in Venezuela, is already in the hands of the prosecutor's office.
04:12Because his spokesman on July 18th, Mr. Pellicer, claimed that they would not recognize the
04:17official results and would only recognize his alleged minutes because he refused to
04:28attend the court summons of the TSJ when it is mandatory.
04:32During the day the extreme right sectors were also concentrated in the capital Caracas.
04:39The concentration took place in the east of the city, especially in the municipality of
04:44Chacao.
04:45Aerial images reveal the low participation that had this activity called by the opposition
04:50of ultra right Maria Corina Machado.
04:52The lack of assistance from demonstrators has been a concern throughout a call for mobilizations
04:58made by the extreme right that has insisted on a campaign of ignorance of the public authorities
05:04of the country, as well as to official results of the presidential elections of July 28th.
05:15The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, now changes in his executive cabinet in order
05:23to adjust the strength of the government to better meet the needs of the people.
05:30During the meeting for a balance of the second national popular consultation, the president
05:34highlighted potential of this electoral process held on Sunday, August 25th.
05:39In this addition, he points out that there is a participatory democratic conscience in
05:45the people of Venezuela.
05:46He also highlighted that the country has reached a new point of maturity to reach a democratic
05:51state.
05:52In this sense, the head of state presented the changes in his government cabinet in order
05:57to consolidate the new phase of the construction of the popular self-government.
06:10And the king of Jordan, Abdullah II, congratulated on Wednesday the Venezuelan head of state,
06:15Nicolás Maduro, for his victory in the July 28th presidential elections.
06:19In an official letter dated August 28th, the monarch expressed his compliment to the liberal
06:25leader on behalf of the Jordanian people and government, and emphasized his desire
06:30to deepen the tide of friendship and cooperation with the Latin American nation.
06:34He, Abdullah II, also wishes President Maduro and the Venezuelan people a future of success,
06:40prosperity and prosperity.

06:56Welcome back to From the South.
07:10Thousands of people demonstrated on Wednesday in Costa Rica to defend public education,
07:14one of the pillars of a strict welfare state, which has been undermined by the lack of investment
07:19by the Rodrigo Chávez government.
07:22Students, teachers, union members and professionals filled the main avenue of San José in a noisy
07:29and colorful protest demanding a large budget for a sector that has been key for the country
07:34to have the lowest poverty rates in Central America.
07:39The demonstrators complained about the Chávez government's refusal to allocate 8% of the
07:46GDP to education, as stipulated in the constitution.
07:50The Ministry of Education received a budget for 2024 equivalent to 5.2% of GDP.
07:57For 2025, the estimate of the Ministry of Finance is only for the 0.7%.
08:08The Costa Rica that was once famous no longer exists.
08:12Today, we are so poor or in the process of becoming poorer, which is dramatic for us
08:17because I come from a generation that grew up with a social state that allowed us to
08:21rise out of poverty and attend university.
08:24That is being lost, and that is what we are trying to reclaim with these and other activities
08:29to come.
08:33Honestly, I feel it is disrespectful because they know very well that without higher education,
08:40there are no professionals for our country, and they want to take away our opportunity
08:44to continue studying.
08:47In Argentina, retired and active workers will demonstrate in defense of the pension and
08:51mobility law approved by the Senate and to reject President Jair Milet's veto threat.
08:57The protests will start at 3 p.m. local time from the nation's congress to the Plaza de
09:03Mayo.
09:04Over 35 social, trade unions and student organizations will be present.
09:08Protests will demand the increase of pensions, the removal of privileged retirements, the
09:15defense of provincial funds and special regimes, which imply a higher contribution during their
09:22working life.
09:23Union leaders assured that the veto is part of a wider government plan to defund the pension
09:29system and move towards its privatization.
09:38Seventy-six years ago, on August 28, 1948, social activists in Argentina first laid it
09:45at the moment.
09:46Maria Eva Duarte de PerĂłn, known as Evita, published the so-called Decalogue of Rights
09:52of Seniors.
09:54The document recognized for the first time in the nation the rights of senior citizens,
10:00which includes the right to assistance, housing, food, health and spiritual care, clothing,
10:07work, respect, entertainment and freedom from worry.
10:11These rights were incorporated in the Argentinian constitution of 1949 and led to the project
10:19shift to broker with a welfare approach in relation to the elderly.
10:24The universalization of these measures made it possible for the senior citizens to live
10:30a fuller and more autonomous life with more equal rights.
10:55Moving on, Israel intensifies its sides of the West Band during the last hours, where
11:01it killed at least 11 Palestinian civilians, aims the deployment of genocidal troops.
11:07In this regard, the governor of Jenin assured that this is the largest operation to take
11:11place in the area since 2002, while denouncing the Israeli threat to occupy one of the hospitals,
11:20which houses more than 200 health care workers that take care of at least 150 patients.
11:34China's foreign ministry published a report revealing that the National Endowment for
11:39Democracy non-profit foundation promotes subversive and destabilizing activities in several countries
11:46around the world.
11:47The report shows that a foundation established in 1983 by the then U.S. President Ronald
11:53Reagan uses so-called human rights movements to demand changes in the government.
11:57It finances media and digital platforms of NGOs to train and instigate what they call
12:03color revolutions.
12:05In Cuba alone, the need has found 54 anti-Cuban organizations since 2017.
12:11In Mexico, they support Mexicans against corruption and the Institute for Competitiveness through
12:17which they have tried to stop important social gains for the Mexican people, such as the
12:22electric power reform.
12:30This Wednesday, traders in Pakistan went on a strike shutting down their businesses in
12:35all major cities and urban areas to protest a rise in electricity costs and new taxes
12:40imposed on shop owners.
12:43The government of Prime Minister Shabaab Sharif has steadily raised electricity prices since
12:49Pakistan last month struck a deal with the International Monetary Fund for a new seven
12:54billion loan.
12:55The higher cost of living and price hikes have triggered widespread discontent and drown
13:01prices.
13:02Inflation is so high, it has become so difficult for us to run businesses.
13:13People are being forced to leave this country.
13:15There is no point in doing business.
13:18Electricity bills are so high.
13:20One can either pay the electricity bill or meet one's other household expenditures.
13:25So many taxes have been imposed.
13:32The government should give us relief.
13:34The whole market is closed in protest.
13:37Everyone is supporting the strike because no one is breaking even.
13:40How will people pay?
13:42They cannot pay from their own pockets.
13:44It is so difficult to do business in Pakistan.
14:02Welcome back.
14:15A World Health Organization emergency commission of African scientists hold the international
14:19community responsible for the aggressive outbreak of impacts affecting the continent.
14:24UN leader Dr. Damien Oguina said that decades of neglect and inability of the international
14:34community have led to the spread of a new, more transmissible version of the virus that
14:38countries with few resources cannot stop.
14:41Oguina stated that for years, impacts spread only slightly affect homosexuals or bisexual
14:47men.
14:48Along with this inability of other countries to contain the virus in populations with low
14:55immunity, children and women suffer from it and even become potential fatalities.
15:07A newly released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
15:13OSHA says years of underfunding of humanitarian aid and increasing needs have put millions
15:19of Haitians at risk of chronic vulnerability.
15:22The UN Humanitarian Office said reserving the situation will require the international
15:27community and donors to increase funding for both UN and non-governmental organizations
15:33relief operations.
15:34Months of armed violence have led to the deterioration of Haiti's humanitarian crisis that has left
15:41nearly 600,000 people displaced.
15:42The 17th edition of the Paralympic Games kick off on Wednesday with the opening ceremony
16:04at the Palace La Concorde and Champs-Élysées.
16:07This way, with an unexpected audience of 15,000 spectators, this Romani marks the beginning
16:13of the 12-day sporting meet in Paris, a city still enthusiastic after the successful recent
16:19Olympics.
16:20The Games host over 1,400 Paralympic athletes from around the world who compete in 549 medals
16:28events across 22 sports.
16:34In Italy, the 81st Venice Film Festival officially began on Wednesday, marking the start of the
16:50prestigious film celebration that will run through September 7th.
16:54The present edition of the festival promises a story-stirred appearance and screening of
16:59anticipated films like Todd Phillips, The Joker, Folie Ă Deux, Olo and La Reine, films
17:05Maria Sestrera and Angelina Jolie, and Pedro Almodovar's first English-language production.
17:11The event will also feature a section of films by Latin American directors with three South
17:17American filmmakers, Narin from Chile, Walters Ayes from Brazil, and Luis Ortega from Argentina
17:24competing for the Golden Lion award.
17:29My concern, and perhaps the concern of us all, is that cinema should continue to live
17:38as long as possible.
17:42We know that it has been weakened recently, and we also know what it takes, I know this
17:47personally, but I'm not a director, I'm just an actress, but we know what it takes in terms
17:54of courage, endurance, solitude, determination, to bring a unique voice to life, to make a film.
18:06My concern is to make sure that these words can continue to be spoken, that they can continue
18:13to exist for as long as possible.
18:18But that's why a festival like Venice exists, it's like an ecosystem that is more necessary
18:24than ever to proclaim these values.
18:26So I'm really happy to be here.
