00:00Guys, it's lovely to see you.
00:01Nice to see you.
00:02I am so happy that I've just met your dog, for the people that are tuning in,
00:06I've just met your lovely dog, Mattie.
00:09I love that she's here, was that important that she was here to support you today?
00:13It was important to her.
00:16I mean, it's nice to see a bit of my world, so she understands.
00:21Yeah, no, she's the light of my life.
00:23And also my sister's here, I should mention that as well.
00:25Yeah.
00:27I met your sister as well, she was lovely too.
00:29It's lovely to see Mattie being appreciated.
00:31Has Mattie seen you as glad, Joel, has she seen you in all the get up?
00:36She has actually, she didn't care about that, but do you know what,
00:38she met an orc and she treated them differently.
00:41I've got a little video, she's like...
00:44Not sure about these orc characters.
00:44Yeah, it was Robert Strange in one of his...
00:46Oh, well, there you go.
00:47And it was like, wow, these guys are geniuses,
00:49because an animal is like, wait, what is that?
00:52Orcs freak me out, to be honest with you, so I understand that, Mattie, I get that.
00:57How did you feel when you first saw yourself in all the get up?
01:00Because that can be quite scary as well.
01:02Yeah, no, it was great, I mean, it's such a transformation.
01:06I like to think so anyway, I hope so.
01:08Yeah, you're a very handsome man.
01:10Thank you, that's what I was wishing for.
01:11But you're still handsome with all that, it's so clever what they do.
01:14Yeah.
01:15How can you still look good like that?
01:17I think I feel probably more comfortable with all the prosthetics on,
01:20because it feels like you don't have to do anything,
01:24you already are that character, you know, to a large extent.
01:27So it was really, yeah, transformative and amazing.
01:31And I take it a lot of that as an actor does the job for you,
01:34because it is such a fantasy world and it's so out there,
01:38but is this like almost for actors the biggest amount of play you can do?
01:42Yeah, for sure.
01:44I mean, I just think the inner child in all of us is just having a whale of a time.
01:50It is just lovely and it's kind of...
01:52I think also what's so nice about it is that, like,
01:54I've had a few friends being kind of orcs and stuff,
01:57and lots of people in our supporting actors department
02:01are just so excited to be in this world just as we are.
02:04So yeah, it feels kind of like going to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
02:09Yeah, right.
02:09I'm like, I can't believe it.
02:10You've got a golden ticket.
02:12Yeah.
02:12I'm obsessed with Gladriel.
02:14I mean, I have been obsessed with her.
02:15She's just an icon.
02:17She's a warrior.
02:18I mean, do you kind of go about life differently now,
02:21knowing that you can do anything because you're Gladriel?
02:26I wouldn't mess with you now.
02:27Oh, nice.
02:28Even though it's funny as actors, though,
02:30like we only know how to not hurt people in fights and stuff like that.
02:35But yeah, no, it's amazing to learn all these new skills.
02:38And it's nice to feel a little bit close to her.
02:40I wish I was kind of more similar to her than I actually am.
02:44But no, it's really empowering to play someone like her.
02:48And yeah, maybe need to try and harness her a little bit more at times.
02:55It would go to my head.
02:56I would be like, if I was Gladriel, and I looked like that,
03:00and I could do that character,
03:01I would honestly walk about like I was ruling the world.
03:05If it makes you feel any better,
03:06I'd make no distinction between you and Gladriel anyway.
03:08Right, thanks, man.
03:10Charming.
03:11Very, very charming.
03:12So talk to me about the dynamic between your two characters,
03:15because it's what's going on.
03:17Yeah.
03:17Well, it's interesting.
03:19Did you want to say something?
03:20No, you go, you go.
03:20Okay.
03:21Well, you know, season two is a lot about
03:25what we're going to do about the return of Sauron.
03:27And so it's a very powerful character.
03:30And so we perhaps need to forge new alliances,
03:33or try to anyway,
03:35but there's so much bad blood between the elves and the orcs
03:39that it's a very difficult thing to kind of negotiate.
03:42And so we do meet up and discuss things.
03:47And Adar is fascinating, you know,
03:49he's doing something that hasn't been done before.
03:51He's got new ideas and stuff.
03:52So I think even though Gladriel kind of detests him,
03:56and is kind of frightened and repulsed by him,
03:58she also can't help but kind of have a certain amount
04:00of admiration for what he's attempting to do.
04:03And I think you were so kind of,
04:06for want of a better word,
04:07horrible to Adar in season one, in episode six.
04:10Yeah, she was a real mess.
04:12So you're going to annihilate,
04:13and not stop until they're all dead.
04:15So I think, I feel like anyway,
04:18that she sort of knows that that was too much,
04:22and that maybe there's no need for that.
04:24Yeah, yeah.
04:25Maybe there's a way we could work it.
04:28Yeah, but I like it when Gladriel's like,
04:30harsh, I like that.
04:31Nice.
04:32Do you look at the lore of this?
04:34Because when I was Googling stuff,
04:36there's so many fan pages,
04:38there's so many wiki pages.
04:39There's so much, and there's so many theories,
04:42about the characters.
04:42I would just get lost.
04:44Do you look at that?
04:45Because I'm quite curious.
04:46I probably would try and see all the things.
04:48Yeah, I hear some of it through my sister,
04:52which I really enjoy.
04:52I think there's something lovely
04:53about kind of putting out this character in this world.
04:56But the world is so rich,
04:58and so open for interpretation.
04:59That's a lovely part of it as well.
05:01It's also why I love doing horror,
05:02because I think that's another genre
05:04that people kind of really take it and run with it.
05:06So no, I love all that.
05:08And it's just lovely to be in something
05:10that I escaped into fantasy worlds a lot as a child,
05:14and it's lovely as an adult.
05:16And it's lovely to kind of be part of something
05:19that you're kind of being like,
05:20oh, I'm glad there's some respite
05:22from the world occasionally into Middle Earth.
05:24Yeah, so it's a real privilege, that, actually.
05:27Absolutely, it's total escapism,
05:28and that is what we need.
05:29And on that note,
05:31hopefully I'll see Mattie on the way out.
05:32Yeah, you will.
05:33Thank you for bringing her.
05:34It's made my day.
05:36Thank you so much, guys.
