00:05Thursday night football.
00:06By the way, just a few weeks, the boys will be live in studio for Thursday night football.
00:10Donnie Rightside.
00:11Yep.
00:12That's me.
00:13Kevin Walsh.
00:14Joe Lisi.
00:15Full game action.
00:16Could be.
00:17Can't wait for it.
00:18By the way, opening day.
00:19Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens.
00:21My goodness.
00:22Then that Friday kicks off with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers from Brazil
00:28on a Friday night.
00:29So it's a perfect segue.
00:30Why?
00:31Because the Philadelphia Eagles are playing tonight against New England Patriots.
00:33Now, if you want to use air quotes, go ahead, considering the Philadelphia Eagles playing
00:38tonight.
00:39This is what's crazy to me.
00:41Look, I understand that NFL teams put way more stock in joint practices than they do
00:46actually in the games that they're going to play for preseason.
00:49The Philadelphia Eagles traveled up to New England and to Foxborough to take on the Patriots
00:53in a practice.
00:54Typically, though, it's two practices than the preseason game.
00:58The Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots only practiced one time this week,
01:01and the Philadelphia Eagles themselves, probably with the Patriots as well, just had a walkthrough
01:05practice yesterday.
01:06So you would think that the Philadelphia Eagles then go, OK, second game, dress rehearsal.
01:11Let's get the starters out there.
01:12And I'm not talking about playing for a full half, but get a quarter of work in.
01:16I understand how hard they work in training camp.
01:18I understand that you're not game planning for a regular season game, and you technically
01:22game plan a little bit more for those practices because they're live sessions 11 on 11.
01:27They're going to take care of each other.
01:28They don't want to get anybody hurt.
01:29I understand that.
01:30But now let's take a look at the odds tonight for this football game between the Philadelphia
01:34Eagles and the New England Patriots.
01:36You might find yourself and say, OK, opening line at the Fandle Sportsbook when this game
01:40was out was minus three for the Philadelphia Eagles.
01:43OK, makes some sense.
01:44The Eagles starters are more talented than New England.
01:46If you go starters for starters, seconds for seconds, the Philadelphia Eagles would probably
01:50win this football game.
01:52Now you take a look at the lines, you see the graphic on the screen.
01:54The Patriots almost a three point favorite at minus two and a half.
01:58Now, granted, this didn't change a week and a half ago.
02:02The Eagles were the favorite in this football game early in this week with the anticipation
02:06of Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley of that wide receiver trio being out there for the Eagles.
02:11Dallas Goddard, the offensive line.
02:13You figure they would be able to say, OK, at the end of the first quarter, if it's starters
02:18versus starters, what's going to happen?
02:20The Eagles will probably have the lead.
02:22Therefore, they should be able to carry it with the second half and also in the third
02:25quarter and fourth quarter.
02:26I don't know if that's the case here.
02:28This line swing for me tonight, what does that say?
02:31I don't think the Philadelphia Eagles are playing anybody tonight then at this point
02:34because there'd be no reason for a basically a six point swing in the favor of the Patriots
02:39if word didn't get out that the Philadelphia Eagles were not going to play their starters.
02:42So hear me out on this.
02:44You're telling me the offensive starters, now the defensive starters did get a little
02:48bit of run in game number one for the Eagles against the Baltimore Ravens, snapping that
02:52long run of the Ravens, never losing preseason games.
02:54Great.
02:55Hold the trophy for that.
02:56Doesn't mean anything.
02:57But we like to believe here that Jalen Hurts and that offense are not going to take a single
03:01snap now in the preseason, because quite frankly, I don't really think anybody's going to play
03:05in week three of the preseason.
03:06That's usually the card carrying option that these teams have.
03:10Game three is just a shutdown.
03:12Maybe the last three or four guys to make the roster, they'll get some burn.
03:15But if you're going to have your entire offensive line, your entire backfield, your entire starting
03:19wide receiving core and tight end, not going to be playing any preseason games.
03:23And again, I just told you to start this episode off right here.
03:26So the segment to tell you that, look, you get more out of practice than you do in the
03:30games, but there's still something about going through that whole game day, you know, notion,
03:33getting on the bus, hitting your playbook, you know, stretching with the team before
03:37the game, that whole mindset of getting ready to play a football game.
03:40The Eagles are just going to do that against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil.
03:43Game number one.
03:44That's going to be an interesting scenario.
03:45Things don't work out their direction.
03:47In this game, 35 and a half, 36 at the FanDuel Sportsbook right now, it does sit at 35 and
03:51a half.
03:52So again, we're not expecting a lot of points and rightfully so.
03:55But the Philadelphia Eagles and their expectations on the season are quite high.
03:59And I understand coach, general manager, they know best.
04:04And what would be worse?
04:05Hey, we're going to get a series or two in against the New England Patriots.
04:08And Devonta Smith goes down with a hamstring injury.
04:10Now granted, he could get hurt in practice, he can get hurt in game number one.
04:13But some of those things the coach can never live down.
04:16I can't fault a coach for saying the biggest option we have is just to not play and be
04:21healthy for game number one.
04:23It does make some sense.
04:24But also for the New England Patriots, what are you going to stay healthy for anyway?
04:27We don't have high expectations.
04:29A new head football coach, you better put that, you know, in those early games to give
04:34some of these kids some runs.
04:36So by the time they get ready for game number one, and that hellish start that looks like
04:40the Patriots are going to have here, yeah, look at that.
04:42Make the playoffs at a plus 920 price, 24 to 1.
04:45That should be a Super Bowl price on an average football team, 24 to 1, just to win your division
04:51at a 3 to 1 price here to have a worst record in the NFL.
04:55Who would have thought that under Bill Belichick for all those decades here, that they would
04:59be in shambles like they are now.
05:01But it's preseason football.
05:02It's a Thursday night.
05:03You're going to watch that kickoff rule.
05:05If no Philadelphia Eagles participate in this game, so be it, we'll still be watching on
05:09a primetime game.
05:10But from my perspective, and you know, me being an Eagles fan, I wish those starters
05:14who get just a little bit of run here out in these streets, doesn't look like that's
05:18going to happen tonight.
05:19But maybe the Patriots pick up a victory.
05:21Hour number two is on its way next.
05:24Keep the dial right here on the Sports Grid Network.
05:27Hour number two is officially live right here on the Sports Grid Network.
05:31I'm Donny Rightside here.
05:32Fun, fun, fun in the sun, that's what a lot of these NFL teams are doing right now, which
05:36does include the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.
05:40Now let's get to some graphics here on the board and take a look at what the expectations
05:44for the New England Patriots actually are going to be this season.
05:4724-25 to make the playoffs.
05:51I don't think it's looking all that good here because you take a look at that schedule and
05:54the schedule actually isn't checking out all that well.
05:56Now, if we're going on a game-to-game basis here and we're taking a look at the Patriots,
06:00game number one, it's against the Cincinnati Bengals.
06:02I don't think that's going to work out all that well.
06:04The reason being that they're much better and you have a starting quarterback that you
06:08have in Joe Barrow and Jim Marchese should be back in the lineup and all that stuff should,
06:12quite frankly, help you out there.
06:14Game number two, it's going to be the Seattle Seahawks here.
06:17And where are you going to play the Seahawks?
06:18At home?
06:19Okay.
06:20Well, the Seattle Seahawks have a much better football team.
06:21So let's just say that's 0-2.
06:23Let's get to game number three.
06:25That's the New York Jets.
06:26And the New York Jets on the road, that's probably going to be an underdog play and
06:30it's probably going to be a loss again.
06:31So now we're taking a look at 0-3 for the Patriots.
06:34I know you can't really trust and say to yourself, this is always what happens in the NFL.
06:39Just the better football team that's going to be favored wins these games.
06:43That's not necessarily the case, and we understand that.
06:45But if we get that graphic back up here, let's keep moving.
06:47So I have them at 0-3 right now for the New England Patriots.
06:50At the San Francisco 49ers in week number four, probably going to be a loss again.
06:55Now we're looking at 0-4.
06:56You go take on the Miami Dolphins, again, you're at home, maybe there's a chance.
07:00But if you were the New England Patriots, wouldn't you rather have that game maybe late
07:03in November, late in December where the weather has changed?
07:06Let's just say that's an 0-5 start.
07:08Now you get the Houston Texans at home, which last year, like, hey, look, rookie quarterback
07:11here, we'll be able to beat him.
07:13Now you have one of the better teams anticipated in the AFC coming into your own building.
07:17That's another loss.
07:18That's six straight losses to start the season for a rookie head coach here.
07:22And also keep in mind, who's going to be the starting quarterback?
07:26Gerard Mayo's got to make a decision here.
07:27Do you throw the young Drake May into the Wolves here, just go with Jacoby Brissett
07:30and say, hey, kid, we signed you here, you're a veteran presence, we know you're not going
07:34to embarrass us, you're going to be able to run the offense, and we'll take it from there.
07:37So that's six straight losses to open up the season.
07:40Then you take on the Jacksonville Jaguars, and it looks like that game is going to be
07:42played, one of those overseas games, I think probably in London, that's typically where
07:47the Jacksonville Jaguars play.
07:49The Jaguars are a better team.
07:50So let's go 0-7 for the Patriots, and I understand.
07:53Some days you're going to get good efforts, some days you're going to get bad efforts
07:55out of some of these teams.
07:56So that's 0-7.
07:57Then you're going to take on the Jets again, who, let's just say Aaron Rodgers is still
08:01playing, they're going to beat you.
08:02So I think we can do this all the way across.
08:04Where are the wins coming from?
08:05So instead of let's go, like, week by week for the New England Patriots, honest.
08:10Where are these wins actually coming from?
08:12The Jets?
08:13I don't think so.
08:14Here's one.
08:15At.
08:16But the problem is it's not even at home.
08:17It's at the Titans.
08:18Who knows who's going to, Mr. Mayonnaise may be a quarterback there, and we'll see if Will
08:21Levis can do some things, and DeAndre Hopkins should be back.
08:24But there's more talent on that Titans team than the New England Patriots team, and you're
08:27on the road.
08:28That's a possibility of a win.
08:30Going to the Bears.
08:31The Bears still have a rookie quarterback, with expectations for the Bears are maybe
08:34a playoff team.
08:35But that's still a road game.
08:36It's hard to win on the road.
08:37The Rams come to town.
08:38Matthew Stafford is still there with Sean McVay.
08:40They're expected to make the playoffs this year.
08:42Then you take a look at on the road against the Dolphins and then against the Colts at
08:45home.
08:46Maybe that could be a victory.
08:47But the Super Bowl people for the New England Patriots.
08:51Could it be that game in week 15, but it's on the road against the Cardinals.
08:56Like if Kyler Murray is back and playing decent football, they probably will win that game
09:00too.
09:01Where do the wins come from this year for the Patriots?
09:03Now, granted, Vegas making the odds, the FanDuel Sportsbook making the odds.
09:08They're not dumb.
09:09So you take a look at the price points here, right?
09:10The playoffs, plus 920 for the Patriots.
09:13We don't expect them to get there.
09:14The AFC East, 24 to 1 to win the division.
09:18I don't think that's going to happen.
09:20Worst record in the NFL, a 3 to 1 price here.
09:24And also if you can put, do we have the, is it four and a half?
09:27What's the team total in the Patriots?
09:28I believe it's four and a half games.
09:30Like I just went over that schedule.
09:33It's hard to even find a win.
09:35Maybe it's the Titans.
09:36Maybe it's the Cardinals.
09:37But both of those games are on the road.
09:40Where are five wins coming from the Patriots?
09:42Now watch.
09:43We understand how the NFL works sometimes.
09:44A little upset the Bengals on the road, handle the Seahawks at home, 2-0 Patriots, best story
09:48in football.
09:49We've seen some crazy shenanigans like that in the NFL in the past.
09:52But for my money, the Patriots aren't getting any of it except for unders on the season
09:57and also from a game-to-game basis.
10:00The whole definition of the Patriots season will be, hey guys, let's play really good
10:04defense even though we traded our best defender away here on the defensive line.
10:07That can actually sack the quarterback.
10:10What are they going to win games?
10:1117-13?
10:1217-10?
10:1317-14?
10:1421-20 if we're lucky at this point?
10:17It's kind of wild how that's going to figure out.
10:19But then again, there is a team on the opposite side that the New England Patriots are going
10:23to play tonight.
10:24And that's the Philadelphia Eagles.
10:26And you heard me.
10:27As an Eagles fan, not understanding the whole total process of nobody on the offense going
10:31to get any run in the preseason, which looks like that could be the case.
10:35Nick Ceriani, head coach, is going to say, you know what?
10:37Let's get these guys some run.
10:38Let's get the good vibe.
10:39Let's get a touchdown drive together before we take on the Green Bay Packers overseas
10:44down in Brazil.
10:45But the Philadelphia Eagles, much different scenario this season than the New England
10:49Patriots.
10:50Patriots, 4.5 win total.
10:51The Philadelphia Eagles had a 10.5 win total.
10:53To win the division themselves, a minus 140 price, they didn't win it last year.
10:58They should have won it last year.
10:59They collapsed at the end of the season.
11:01The Dallas Cowboys won the division, so the Eagles looking to come back.
11:03And keep in mind, that real quirk with the NFC East, guys.
11:06No division winner in the NFC back-to-back since 2004.
11:12Eagles win a Super Bowl 13-to-1 price, and of course, to make the playoffs at a 290.
11:17I think the Eagles have a solid season, but there's a lot of question marks.
11:20There really are.
11:21The one question mark I don't have with the Philadelphia Eagles, honestly, is the offense.
11:25Understandably, Jason Kelsey retired in the offseason.
11:29Maybe one of the best centers to ever play in the NFL, certainly the best center in Philadelphia
11:32Eagles history.
11:33That's going to be a slight issue here, but that offensive line still ranked anywhere
11:37in that top five, top six range in the NFL.
11:40That should be good enough.
11:41Jalen Hurts, from all indications through the practice reports and the beat writers
11:45writing out, hasn't thrown a single interception in training camp.
11:48Is that huge for the regular season?
11:49Well, it's better than throwing 15 or 20 interceptions to your own teammates or those joint practices.
11:54I understand that, but it looks more healthy.
11:56The scrambling ability, which is a little bit hampered down the stretch last year with
11:59that knee, doesn't look like it's an issue.
12:01Saquon Barkley comes over from the New York Giants.
12:04What does that mean?
12:05A dominant ground game here.
12:07Anytime you're running RPO between Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, that's going to be an
12:11issue.
12:12You take a look at the tight end, top five in the league, Dallas Goddard, look at the
12:15wide receiver position, Devontae Smith and A.J. Brown, probably the best overall tandem
12:20in the NFL, but certainly in that argument, if you don't place them number one.
12:24The questions for me aren't coming up on offense.
12:26Last year, you had a bad offensive coordinator, blew that system out.
12:29Now you take a look at Nick Ciaranni bringing Kellen Moore to run his own system.
12:33Things should improve and be more competent because the one thing the Eagles didn't do
12:36the past two years is a lot of pre-snap motion.
12:38Kellen Moore's going to put that in place so you're not so predictable, but the other
12:41defense is screaming out loud exactly what your play call is.
12:45Flip it over to the Philadelphia Eagles defense.
12:48Here's what's key.
12:49Last year, Matt Patricia calling the shots here.
12:51Sean Desai, a complete whiff on the defensive coordinator, which leads to confusion in the
12:56secondary and from the linebacker position.
12:59How many blown plays did you see out of the Philadelphia Eagles down the stretch?
13:02They embarrassed themselves on that Monday night football playoff game against the Tampa
13:06Bay Buccaneers.
13:07Wide open routes all night long.
13:08Vic Fangio brought in for the Philadelphia Eagles.
13:11He's just designed you to be that old school defensive coordinator to teach the young players
13:15exactly where to be.
13:16It's just up to them to make some plays.
13:18The Eagles, I thought, had a very good draft, re-upping that secondary and making it a little
13:22bit more like, you know what?
13:24We might be able to shut some guys down.
13:25We'll see if that linebacker in court, the Eagles are notorious for not spending a lot
13:28of money on, picked up Devin White from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as that veteran presence.
13:32Nicole B. Dean coming back into the lineup after last year, setting out the majority
13:36of the season on IR.
13:38Now you do lose Hassan Redick to the Jets.
13:40I guess you could say he went to the Jets as he hasn't shown up to camp yet.
13:43So there are question marks on that defense.
13:45Can they be a shutdown defense?
13:47But in today's NFL, do you absolutely need a shutdown defense?
13:50No.
13:51You just need to have at least an average defense to go along with a dominant offense
13:54and you can win a lot of football games.
13:56So case in point, do I think the Philadelphia Eagles can win the NFC East?
14:00I really do think they will win that because again, the vibes of the Eagles, much, much
14:04higher than the Cowboys right now, as Jerry Jones continues to tell you, hey, you know
14:09what?
14:10I think we'll get this deal done with CD Land, even though we're not even close at this point.
14:13We have two weeks left until we hit the starting line of the regular season.
14:18So many things to be ironed out.
14:20So many crazy options on the table.
14:22But if we're looking at the NFC East, I think it is the Philadelphia Eagles.
14:25Do I think they get to 11 wins and go 11-6?
14:27I think they do.
14:28Are they making the playoffs?
14:29Yup.
14:30It's just a matter if they can be one of the best teams in the NFC, which has a lot of
14:33talent in the San Francisco Giants, the Detroit Lions, and so on here.
