00:00We have a great tradition in this country of peaceful protest and people making their views
00:04known and what last night showed actually was the vast majority of people believe that we are a
00:10tolerant respectful country and we are law abiding and I think that's what it was about.
00:15Our advice was not to go out last night because we wanted to make sure that the police could deal
00:20with the trouble that they'd had in previous nights, the criminal acts of violence and disorder
00:26but luckily last night it was peaceful in the main, we didn't see any of the levels of criminality
00:33that we've seen before so I'm cautiously hopeful that that might now continue. You're in a
00:39leadership position as a member of parliament, the country has gone through a very difficult few days
00:44I think what we should be highlighting is the great community spirit in this country and the
00:48fact that when we saw the thugs out on the streets of Middlesbrough or Hartlepool or in Hull the very
00:54next day we saw the community coming together to say this is not in our name, this is not what
01:00British people do, we do not violently riot on the streets and cause that level of disorder.
01:06We work together, we work in harmony, we live in a tolerant country and I think all MPs would be well
01:12to think about what they say and deal with anything in a measured calm way.
