Soosaimanicckam's family lodges police report following court's ‘homicide’ ruling
The family of naval cadet officer J. Soosaimanicckam, who died while on training at the Lumut naval base in 2018, has called for police investigation into their son's case.
Soosaimanicckam's father, S. Joseph, filed a report at the Petaling Jaya police station, following an Ipoh High Court ruling on July 29, which set aside the coroner’s open verdict and revised it to “homicide”.

00:00On Monday, the Ipoh High Court pronounced a very serious verdict on the appeal from
00:17the inquest into the death of Sose Manikam.
00:23The Ipoh High Court found that the death of Sose Manikam was by homicide as a direct consequence
00:32of the actions of officers of the TLDM.
00:36Because of the conditions during the camp, the training camp, his son and others are
00:48believed to have contracted the disease called leptospirosis.
00:52According to the judgment read out by the High Court, the officers there did not take
00:58Sose Manikam for treatment and instead there was continuous training that he was forced
01:06to carry out.
01:07All of this resulted in multi-organ collapse and death.
01:12The Navy officers who were in charge of his training should have foreseen that if you
01:18do not take someone who is so sick to the hospital, then he will die, he may die.
01:26Now that is why the High Court judge said that this is homicide.
01:31So today, this morning, Che Joseph has lodged a police report.
01:34Che Joseph has asked that PDRM immediately launch a murder investigation into the death
01:42of his son.
01:43Because this is a very serious matter, there must be an independent investigation.
01:47We urge the IGP to form a team in Bukit Aman to investigate this matter.
01:53Now why do I say that?
01:54This was the death of a Navy cadet in a training camp.
01:58We are very disappointed.
01:59The verdict came out on Monday, 29 July.
02:04No response from the Defence Minister.
02:08No response from the Defence Ministry.
02:11No response from the Navy or the Navy Chief or anyone.
02:15No response from the government.
02:17No response from the Cabinet.
02:19Do you mean to say that a High Court judge in this country can pronounce a serious homicide
02:26verdict over the death of a Navy cadet during training and no one in authority has anything
02:32to say?
02:34Is this what we have come to?
02:36I'm very disappointed.
02:37And from 2018 until now, we have only received a little bit of justice for the family.
02:45But as Mr. Sulwana has said, we are disappointed that the verdict issued by the High Court
02:52has not been ignored by the authorities, not been ignored by the government or any
02:58responsible parties.
02:59So moving forward, whatever steps that need to be taken, the government must take because
03:06this is a matter of human rights.
03:09This is a matter of human rights.
03:11This is a matter of human rights.
03:13This is a matter of human rights.
03:15This is a matter of human rights.
03:17This is a matter of human rights.
03:19This is a matter of human rights.
03:21This is a matter of human rights.
03:23This is a matter of human rights.
03:25This is a matter of human rights.
03:27Whatever steps that need to be taken, the government must take because that is their
03:30responsibility.
03:31A death has occurred and let the death at least avoid all other future similar deaths.
03:38I am also so regret to send my son to TLDM.
03:45And so careless, negligence.
03:49Because of that, my son Suse Manikam died.
03:52The profession in Navy, TLDM, not trusted in the skill.
04:02In my opinion, my son entered Navy 2018.
04:06Until now, we don't know who is the culprit there.
04:12Till my son.
04:14But they all point another person.
04:20So in this case, we must investigate the case.
04:26We want justice.
