00:00here in the studio with me, Damien Lecomte, perhaps let's start with you.
00:03Turnout there looking something like 65.5%, big turnout. What do you make of that? What
00:10implications do you think that's going to have for this round and also the second round?
00:14Well, first of all, it is really interesting that you have this surge in voting turnout because
00:18it is not only the first snap election since 1997, but also the first since then that does
00:25not immediately follow a presidential election. And since 2002, the French people were used to
00:31think of the legislative elections as only a byproduct of presidential election, which is
00:36quite a paradox because the legislative election is actually more decisive when it comes to form
00:41a new government. But now when you have a new legislative election that does not immediately
00:45follow a presidential one, it shows that then the French people realize that it is a decisive
00:52election that is going to decide who holds the power for at least the next three years
00:57till the next presidential election. So I think that it is a demonstration that legislative
01:02election can interest people when they feel that it is the election that matters.
01:08And now, of course, the big question will be to whom it will benefit.
01:15It is not certain that one block is more mobilized than the other. So I'm looking
01:21forward to see the estimates.
