00:00Christian McCaffrey, Mr. Do-it-all, two-year $38 million contract extension with the San
00:09Francisco 49ers.
00:10That's $19 million per year, making him once again the highest paid running back in the
00:15National Football League.
00:17In fact, the only running back in the NFL DRS that makes north of 15 mil, and that's
00:23$19 million on an annual average basis.
00:26And he absolutely is worth it and good for him.
00:29And if we go back, what, a year and a half, two years, when that trade went down between
00:32the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers, the amount of idiots out there, they're
00:36like, oh man, best part of this trade is that Carolina got rid of a running back and they
00:39got some draft stock.
00:40What a terrible trade for the 49ers.
00:43When since when is it terrible to get one of the best players in football added to your
00:46team?
00:47And he's been worth his weight in gold since he got to San Francisco.
00:50Has it equated to a championship?
00:51Not necessarily.
00:52Did he fumble in the Super Bowl in a key moment early in that game where you could have taken
00:55control?
00:56Yes, he did.
00:57But it is an absolutely outrageous running back who, when you are looking in the fall
01:02for guys like, hey, who do I bet on a Sunday to score a touchdown?
01:04It's Christian McCaffrey.
01:05Who am I betting to go over 100 yards?
01:07It's Christian McCaffrey.
01:08Take care of your best players.
01:10They will take care of you.
01:11Now, if you're looking from like, hey, maybe that's smart, smart business and he's been
01:14hurt in the past and eventually he's going to get hurt again.
01:17If you're playing that theory, then good luck to you at this point.
01:19But those same people playing that theory out were the same ones that told you it was
01:22a terrible trade and how big Carolina won that trade over San Francisco.
01:27This guy is one of the best football players in the game, still in his prime.
01:30Pay the man.
01:31Keep him happy.
01:32Move it forward.
01:34It's all about value, right?
01:35You're not going to pay Christian McCaffrey quarterback numbers.
01:38He's not going to make $45 million a year.
01:41Nobody is getting to 40, at least at this current stage.
01:44That is a non quarterback around the National Football League.
01:47And it's still only 19 mil.
01:49But for a running back, it is worth the investment into Christian McCaffrey because he's not just
01:54somebody that can run the football.
01:56He does everything with the football.
01:58Look at these numbers.
01:59I mean, truly, look at the numbers in the 27 games he has played with the 49ers since
02:04being traded for midway through the 2022 NFL campaign.
02:09More than 2,200 rushing yards, more than 1,000 receiving yards, 31 total touchdowns.
02:14It included a 17 game streak of fighting paydirt as well, tying a record set back in the mid
02:2160s in the National Football League.
02:24As Donnie said, as he shared yesterday on social media, yes, he is the highest paid
02:29running back in the National Football League, but he is worth every single penny.
02:35And Christian McCaffrey gets rewarded.
02:37DRS, as we look at the running back conversation elsewhere, second highest paid RB entering
02:432024, that's Alvin Kamara at $15 million per year with New Orleans.
02:48Third highest paid, that's Jonathan Taylor with Indianapolis at about $14 million per
02:53year.
02:54We talked about Justin Jefferson resetting the wide receiver market, and who might be
02:58next?
02:59Who might be on the come up?
03:00Listen, nobody's getting close to the number Christian McCaffrey set in the running back
03:03market yesterday.
03:04No, they're not.
03:06And by the way, what a great offseason, or should I say a last calendar year for running
03:09backs, where they were so down in the dumps, where they were having phone calls between
03:13each other in the offseason to try to see how they can actually get paid.
03:16And they were considering, remember that, what happens if all the running backs strike
03:19because they want to tell how important they are to the ownership groups?
03:23It was a wild conversation, but now you're seeing the value of a lot of those running
03:26backs here coming up in the future.
03:27And they should be paid, because if you are a dominant playmaker that can separate yourself
03:31and be an improvement on the field over your backup, when it's clear that Christian McCaffrey
03:36is that improvement.
03:37Do you remember also, Kyle Shanahan, when Christian McCaffrey came and was like, you
03:39know what, I would love a 50-50 backfield split between myself and maybe Eliza Mitchell
03:43out there.
03:44And we said, well, that sounds kind of crazy.
03:45And then all of a sudden, McCaffrey's getting every single play, even if it was hobbling
03:49off of the field.
03:50They're using him in the right way here.
03:52He's a phenomenal player.
03:53And you are in the strike zone to win a Super Bowl for San Francisco.
03:57That's why you're paying him now.
03:58Keep the band back together for another year or two and make a run at this thing.
