Labour reacts to Conservative's migration crackdown
Labour's Pat McFadden has reacted to the Conservative's plan to cap migration after Rishi Sunak promised the number of visas available to migrants would be reduced each year under a new Conservative government. The Labour campaign co-ordinator said: "There's a problem at the heart of their policy which is it doesn't address workforce or the demand for Labour and how we need to do more to skill and train our own workforce." 00:00 Well, we understand the concerns about the levels of migration.
00:03 They've tripled in recent years.
00:06 But this Conservative policy has been announced more times
00:10 than the Rocky films.
00:11 But it's not as entertaining.
00:13 They've announced something that David Cameron tried and failed
00:15 to do, that other Conservative prime ministers tried
00:17 and failed to do.
00:18 And there's a problem at the heart of their policy, which
00:21 is it doesn't address workforce.
00:23 It doesn't address the demand for labour
00:26 and how we need to do more to skill and train
00:29 our own workforce.
00:31 And as long as the Conservatives neglect that,
00:33 they'll keep failing.
00:34 That's at the heart of Labour's policy with regard to migration,
00:37 because we know that these two things have to come together.
