00:03 - So Joe, walk me through some Chiefs targets
00:06 for the upcoming season.
00:08 - Well, we talked about the ecosystem last week, right?
00:10 If you missed that, you go back and watch the show
00:12 and one of the segments, which is in the Black Book
00:14 or you could just go by the Fantasy Football Black Book
00:16 on Amazon right now.
00:17 And the Chiefs are at the top of the list
00:19 in terms of offensive ecosystems.
00:20 Why? 'Cause they have Patrick Mahomes,
00:22 they have a great offensive line
00:23 and they have a great head coach
00:25 and some skill, position, talent at the very least, right?
00:28 So what we're trying to figure out is how that talent's
00:30 gonna be utilized this year
00:32 and how we're gonna invest in it.
00:34 Because we wanna be in on the Chiefs offense, right?
00:36 And I think the first thing you look at is the ADP
00:38 and start to look at these players that are new.
00:40 Now, last year, there was a lot of new for the Chiefs
00:42 and it did not work out.
00:43 Canarius Tony couldn't catch anything,
00:45 Sky Moore in year two just couldn't quite make that jump.
00:48 And you know what?
00:49 The Chiefs have recognized it and said,
00:50 "We gotta make some changes."
00:52 They drafted a wide receiver in Xavier Worthy,
00:54 they went out there and brought in Hollywood Brown
00:56 and Rushie Rice is a guy we're gonna talk about
00:57 in this segment as well.
00:59 I wanna start with the guy that they brought in,
01:00 which is Hollywood Brown, right?
01:01 So Marquise Hollywood Brown certainly has speed, check.
01:05 He is the 37th wide receiver on the board right now
01:08 in terms of the ECR and fantasy pros.
01:10 So that's right after Chris Godwin,
01:12 but before DeAndre Hopkins and Jordan Addison.
01:14 This feels about right to me.
01:16 I think Deontay Johnson might be a little bit safer
01:19 who's going right around there.
01:20 But if we're talking about investing in an offense,
01:22 do we wanna invest in an offense that's run by Bryce Young
01:25 or Will Levis?
01:26 Or do you wanna invest in a guy
01:27 who's an offense run by Patrick Mahomes?
01:30 I will take the guy with Patrick Mahomes.
01:32 Now, Hollywood Brown has been more of a,
01:33 what I would call mistake wide receiver over the years.
01:36 When you watch Hollywood Brown,
01:37 you'll see the speed and the quickness
01:40 sometimes get him loose from the corners.
01:43 And when the corners make a mistake,
01:44 that's when Hollywood Brown takes advantage of it.
01:47 So it's not like necessarily
01:49 he's always creating incredible separation.
01:52 Sometimes what Hollywood Brown is most capable of
01:54 is getting guys to make mistakes.
01:56 He makes a move, a guy kind of slips, falls down,
01:58 he takes advantage of it.
02:00 And that's his separation.
02:01 It's not just because the corner's right with him
02:04 and he's just so good at separating.
02:05 He's just good at getting them
02:06 to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
02:08 If he can do that here with the Chiefs,
02:11 this is a very high level thing.
02:12 He's played with two very mobile quarterbacks too,
02:14 Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray in his career.
02:17 So Mahomes is another one of these mobile guys
02:18 that can get out there and improvise and extend plays.
02:21 That's a good thing for the value of a guy
02:23 like Hollywood Brown because he's shifty, because he's quick.
02:25 So where are you investing in him right now?
02:27 Wide receiver 34, 37 in the rankings.
02:30 It's right around that range,
02:32 but you're telling me I can get a wide receiver three
02:35 with the upside for a thousand yard season
02:36 and six touchdowns or seven touchdowns.
02:38 It's a pretty good wide receiver three,
02:40 fringe wide receiver four.
02:42 I think I'll take that guy on that good offense.
02:44 So I think he's a good investment.
02:46 What do you make of Hollywood Brown here as the new guy?
02:49 Do you have any concerns that it takes a little bit of time
02:52 for him to develop that chemistry with Patrick Mahomes?
02:54 And could we run into the next version
02:56 of the guy that fails maybe,
02:58 who can't get on the same page as Patrick Mahomes?
03:02 I don't think it's gonna go that far,
03:03 but I mean, you've led me to water, but now I must drink.
03:06 You illustrated a great point
03:08 about having Mahomes running this offense,
03:10 part of me and having the offensive ecosystem.
03:12 But Brown comes with a stink for me.
03:17 And that's a lot of times I have a hard time
03:18 personally putting aside things that have happened
03:21 in my fantasy realm.
03:22 But I have flashbacks to Brown with Lamar Jackson.
03:25 And I remember just not getting what I wanted.
03:27 I could be wrong, but he's wide receiver 34,
03:30 right next to him is wide receiver 35.
03:32 But I guess the devil you know
03:33 is better than the devil you don't.
03:35 I think in fantasy football, that does not apply.
03:37 Joe?
03:39 - Well, the hard part is right,
03:40 basically next to him in a lot of these ADPs
03:42 is his new teammate, Xavier Worthy,
03:45 who was drafted at Texas.
03:46 The guy that broke the 40.
03:48 So we're talking about speed separation.
03:50 We're talking about the downfield thread.
03:52 Xavier Worthy is gonna have some explosive games.
03:55 I think he is more of a flex play
03:57 than a wide receiver three,
03:58 because I think as a rookie,
03:59 you wanna be a little patient with these guys.
04:01 It might not take right away.
04:03 Highlywood Brown, I think is the guy you want
04:04 for the first six to eight weeks of the season.
04:07 But there's a chance that Xavier Worthy
04:08 is the guy that you want for the stretch run,
04:10 because he does have that electric speed.
04:12 Now he is not Tyreek Hill
04:14 in terms of what he does with the football,
04:16 but in terms of speed he is.
04:18 And that is something that this offense has lacked
04:20 since Tyreek Hill left.
04:21 But let's make note that even when Tyreek Hill left,
04:24 Patrick Holmes two years ago still threw for 4,800 yards.
04:28 So let's not pretend like he is not capable
04:30 of pushing 5K this year, 'cause he is.
04:34 And Xavier Worthy, again, now brings a dynamic
04:36 with Brown of speed and stretching the field ability.
04:41 So I am looking for that now,
04:43 if I'm in a full point PPR,
04:44 where I'd rather have Xavier Worthy or McConkie,
04:46 I think I'd rather have McConkie.
04:47 The other guy too, who I talked about all last summer
04:50 to take with your last pick was Rushie Rice.
04:52 And if you were patient with Rice, he paid off.
04:56 Now the problem is after he became the red zone go-to guy,
04:59 after he had a glorious finish of the season,
05:02 the off season hasn't been great for him.
05:04 He's getting in trouble.
05:05 He should stay home and start sampling some of the peppers
05:08 that we were talking about.
05:09 That's where Rushie Rice should be right now.
05:11 But I think Rushie Rice is still a player
05:14 that depending on what that suspension is,
05:15 and I think he is gonna have somewhere
05:16 between two and four games
05:17 for some of the off season stuff that's going on,
05:19 it's gonna hurt his draft stock.
05:21 And depending on how much of a discount is,
05:22 you do wanna go after him.
05:24 However, at the end of the day,
05:26 all things circle back to one guy.
05:28 And a lot of boards, he's the number two tight end,
05:30 except mine, he's still the number one tight end
05:32 in terms of investability.
05:34 But the good news is Travis Kelsey
05:35 isn't gonna cost you a first round pick anymore.
05:37 Maybe a second, maybe even an early third.
05:41 And at that ADP of 32,
05:44 I am all ears on Travis Kelsey.
05:47 If you can start out with, let's say overall,
05:51 I don't know, an Ahmad Ross, Ayn Brown,
05:53 and then a Derrick Henry in round two,
05:54 and Travis Kelsey in round three,
05:57 you're gonna get an alpha wide receiver.
05:58 You're gonna get a guy who could lead the league
06:00 in rushing and Derrick Henry,
06:01 and you can get arguably the best tight end in football.
06:04 Travis Kelsey was hurt last year
06:06 for the beginning of the year,
06:07 all the way through the end of the year.
06:09 A healthy year for Travis Kelsey.
06:10 I understand the age, the wear and tear,
06:11 all that is good football to recognize.
06:14 But if you're giving Travis Kelsey to me
06:17 in the third round of drafts,
06:19 that is a place where I'm very comfortable drafting him.
06:22 So when everything comes around,
06:24 it's still Travis Kelsey and everybody else,
06:27 but some of these new pieces are worth drafting
06:29 as wide receiver threes, and that's where they're going.
06:31 And in an offense that good,
06:33 if you're choosing your matchups carefully,
06:35 good things can happen for you
06:36 with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024.
06:39 Shake the dust off a disappointing 2023.
