00:42The Foreign Affairs Department files a protest over China's imposition of a unilateral, four-month-long

00:47phishing ban that began on May 1 and is expected to stay in place until September 16, 2024.

00:54The DFA says it protests the ban as it includes the Philippines' maritime zones, over which

00:59the Philippines has sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction.

01:03The DFA cites the 2016 Arbitral Award on the South China Sea, which found China's imposition

01:08of a phishing ban breaches the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea with

01:14respect to the Philippines' sovereign rights over its exclusive economic zone.

01:18Tensions between Manila and Beijing have heightened over the past year over Philippine access

01:23to the West Philippine Sea.

01:27Senator Sherwin Gatchalian files a bill seeking to outlaw Philippine offshore gaming operators

01:32or POGOs following the industry's links to various forms of crimes and the outweighing

01:37of economic costs over benefits.

01:39On Tuesday, May 21, Gatchalian files Senate Bill 2689 seeking to repeal the taxability

01:45of POGOs provided by Republic Act 11590, the only law that acknowledges and legitimizes

01:51POGO operations in the Philippines.

01:54Gatchalian explains its main goal is ultimately to outlaw and prohibit offshore gaming operations

01:59in the Philippines.

02:01Then President Rodrigo Duterte signed RA 11590 into law in 2021, often citing the economic

02:08benefits of allowing POGOs in the country.

02:11Over the years, law enforcement conducted raids of POGOs suspected of conducting human

02:15trafficking, cyber-scam operations, and other crimes.

02:21Palestinian militant group Hamas says it launched missiles at Tel Aviv on Sunday, May 26, prompting

02:26sirens to sound in the Israeli city for the first time in four months.

02:31Israel's military says eight projectiles were identified crossing from Rafa in southern

02:35Gaza, adding there are no reports of casualties.

02:39Rafa is located about 100 kilometers or 60 miles south of Tel Aviv.

02:44Meantime, the International Court of Justice, or World Court, orders Israel to immediately

02:48halt its military assault on Rafa in a landmark emergency ruling in South Africa's case accusing

02:54Israel of genocide.

02:56While the ICJ has no means to enforce its orders, the case is a stark sign of Israel's

03:01global isolation.

03:04Israel began its offensive against Rafa this month against the pleas of its closest ally,

03:08the United States.

03:11Fernando de la Peña, son of veteran Filipino actress Eva Darin, airs his frustration against

03:17the organizers of the Filipino Academy Movie Arts and Sciences, or FAMAS 2024, awarding

03:22ceremony after his mother never went up on stage despite being invited to be one of the

03:27ceremony's presenters.

03:29In a Facebook post, de la Peña shares a photo of Darin from the awarding ceremony held on

03:37He criticizes the organizers for their unprofessionalism and lack of explanation for the last-minute

03:44Meantime, horror film Malyari dominates the 2024 FAMAS, winning seven awards, including

03:49Best Picture and Best Screenplay.

03:52Catherine Bernardo bags her first FAMAS Best Actress award for her performance in the movie

03:56A Very Good Girl, while Piolo Pascual and Alfred Vargas share the Best Actor award for

04:02their films Malyari and Pieta, respectively.

04:06Kim Dae-wook of K-pop group Super Junior ties the knot with former Tahiti member Ari on
