00:00At this point, we will talk about the latest updates on the programs of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:21Here in Mr. President On The Go.
00:23Ladies and gentlemen, first of all, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is not content with the ranking of the Philippines in the Times Higher Education 2024 Asia University.
00:35This is what our President stated in his speech yesterday at the National Higher Education Day Summit of the Commission on Higher Education.
00:43He has a lot of things to do for our universities to enter the top 100 rankings in Asia.
00:54Ladies and gentlemen, this year, unfortunately, there are no universities in the Philippines to enter the top 100.
01:02If you remember, the top university in the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, used to be in the 84th place.
01:12But now, it is in the 400th place of the Asian ranking.
01:17The last time we entered the top 100 was in 2022.
01:23The University of the Philippines was in the 84th place.
01:26But a year later, it reached the 129th place.
01:32Ladies and gentlemen, our country needs a comprehensive strategy to recover from the rankings because education will be the future of our country.
01:44You know, Audrey, I was there yesterday at the National Higher Education Day Summit held at the PICC.
01:49You mentioned the trials, but we also gained a lot when it comes to the higher education sector.
01:55The Chair, especially Chair Popoy de Vera, was very happy with the presence of our President in their activities yesterday.
02:02Because for the past decade, this is the first time that a President has visited the National Education Day Summit.
02:09Alright, so you mentioned the challenge, but in terms of gains, we are now enjoying free tertiary education.
02:15In fact, our administration allocated P134 billion so that we can enjoy free education in local universities, colleges, and state universities.
02:27That is a great help to our Filipino families because you won't have a problem with where you will get tuition to go to college.
02:36But as you mentioned, Audrey, there are still things that need to be done in the higher education sector.
02:41But the President said that these expenditures when it comes to higher education, in fact, should not be considered as expenses.
02:48He considers it as an investment for our countrymen because eventually, when they finish their studies,
02:55those will be our weapons to make our society better.
03:01Well, on social media, the question of discarding or diploma became a hot topic.
03:07Like you said, our other colleges are now free.
03:11Let's choose a diploma because it will greatly help our career when it comes to our profession.
03:17If the quality of education is good, it will have a big impact on the economy of our country.
03:23That is why we really need to invest when it comes to higher education of our countrymen.
03:29Because as you said, education is not a privilege. It is a right of every Filipino.
03:36Okay, fellow countrymen.
03:38Meanwhile, in another topic,
03:40President Marcos Jr. ordered the Land Transportation Office or LTO to be strict with dealers
03:47when it comes to the release of motor vehicle plates.
03:50In the sectoral meeting held with the officials of the Department of Transportation and LTO,
03:55President Marcos Jr. ordered the LTO to be more strict and consistent
04:02so that we can achieve the zero backlog of new license plates.
04:07Even I experienced that during the pandemic.
04:10I bought a motorcycle but I just got my license plate.
04:15You just waited for a long time, right?
04:16Yes, that's right.
04:18According to the agreement of the LTO with our dealers,
04:21they should have an 11-day period from the date of purchase
04:25for the release of the plates of our motor vehicles.
04:30President Marcos Jr. ordered the transport officials to be strict
04:36in the 11-day period for the release of motorcycle plates for our motorists.
04:44As a result of the LTO's agreement with the dealers who have not yet complied,
04:48they were able to issue a show-cause order.
04:50In fact, they were able to issue 130 show-cause orders to these traders
04:55who have not yet been able to release the plates
04:58to explain why the situation is like this.
05:01I hope they will be consistent here and I will not just ignore it.
05:04For us motorists who have complaints about this issue,
05:09we have launched a LTO hotline where you can contact us.
05:13That is 0929-2920865.
05:18Alright, that is our update for this morning.
05:21Stay tuned for the next episode of our conversation
05:24with President Marcos Jr.
