Federal government to establish national guns register

Almost 30 years after the Port Arthur massacre, a national register allowing police across the country to easily share information about guns and the people who own them is finally being established. A deadly shooting in rural Queensland in December 2022 was the catalyst for commonwealth, state, and territory leaders to come to a deal, although it could take another four years for the register to be fully operational.
