Senator Bernie Sanders launched a Senate investigation into the "outrageously high prices" of diabetes and weight loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy made by Novo Nordisk. Sanders asked Novo Nordisk to substantially reduce prices and provide details on manufacturing costs, R&D spending, and how prices were determined. Ozempic costs over $900 per month, while Wegovy is more than $1,300 per month in the US. Prices are far lower in countries like Canada, where it's $155, and Germany, where it's $59. Medicare spending on Ozempic surged from $2.6 billion in 2021 to $4.6 billion in 2022. Wegovy could cost nearly $3 billion annually for the program.
