Police clash with protestors in Tbilisi
Clashes broke out in the streets and parliament as lawmakers debate a divisive bill that critics say could endanger Georgia’s ambitions for EU membership.
The proposed law targets media and non-profit organizations that receive more than 20% of their funding from abroad.
These organizations would then have to register as ‘agents of foreign influence’.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that at least one employee was injured in clashes.
Critics say the move could endanger the country’s ambitions for EU membership. While supporters of the bill say it would limit foreign interface within sensitive fields.
