Self-Defense Episode 1: Escaping the Neck Choke Hold

When we are out and about, there is no guarantee of our safety, as an incoming attack can be from practically anywhere.

The most compromising position, in this case, would be if the attacker has you against the wall. Choking the neck is a tricky situation as it stops the blood flow to the brain, resulting in even more panic.

The best move to counter the choke is to breathe and not panic. Now that’s taken care of, slide your right leg a little further towards the right side, lift your right arm straight up and bring your elbow straight down at the attacker’s elbow joint.

This breaks the hold, so you have the upper hand in the altercation. Once the hold is broken, take your right hand and place it on the attacker’s back. Similarly, take the left hand and place it on the right palm to lock the hold. This gives you a great chance to hold this lock and use your left/right leg to strike explosive knee blows near the attacker’s abdomen.
