நமது வாழ்க்கையில் ஒரு பொருள் எவ்வளவு அத்தியாவசியம் என்று தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டுமென்றால் அந்த பொருள் இல்லாத உலகத்தை நாம் கற்பனை செய்து பார்த்தால் போதும். உதாரணத்திற்கு தொலைபேசி இல்லாத உலகை உங்களால் கற்பனை செய்து பார்க்க முடிகிறதா!! ஒவ்வொரு இல்லத்திலும் ஒவ்வொரு அலுவலக மேசையிலும் அதன் கண்டுபிடிப்பாளரின் நினைவுச்சின்னமாக வீற்றிருக்கின்றன தொலைபேசிகள். அந்த உன்னத கருவியை உலகுக்கு தந்தவர் அலெக்ஸாண்டர் கிரஹாம் பெல். 1847 ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் 3ந்தேதி ஸ்காட்லாந்தின் எடின்பெர்க் நகரில் பிறந்தார் அலெக்ஸாண்டர் கிரஹாம் பெல். சிறுவயதிலிருந்தே கிரஹாம் பெல் கல்வியில் அதிக ஆர்வம் காட்டினார். கல்வியை முடித்தபிறகு அவர் காது கேளாதோருக்கும், வாய் பேச முடியாதோருக்கும் கற்பிப்பதில் அதிக கவணம் செலுத்தினார். 1870ல் கனடாவுக்குச் சென்ற பெல் அங்கும் காது கேளாதோருக்கும், பேச முடியாதோருக்கும் கற்பித்தார். பின்னர் அமெரிக்காவுக்கு குடி பெயர்ந்த பெல் அங்கு காது கேளாதோருக்காக சிறப்புப்பள்ளி ஒன்றை நிறுவினார். மேலும் தெரிந்து கொள்ள
