UK hotels see a 278% surge in bed bug infections

In the UK, there are nearly ten thousand hotel rooms, with approximately 80% occupancy daily. However, recent research indicates a potential unwelcome guest sharing your room: bed bugs. Over the past two years, UK hotels have experienced a staggering 278% surge in bed bug levels, compiled from 2.5 million stays nationwide.

2024 appears to be the worst year yet, with the first three months showing over five times the bed bug cases compared to last year's same period. This follows a Paris outbreak six months ago, where travelers shared images of bed bugs in local transport, high-speed trains, and Charles de Gaulle airport. There's now a call for the industry to improve transparency in bed sheet cleanliness for better guest experience.
