A new study says rare gene variants might explain why some people are left-handed

Roughly 10% of us are left-handed.

A new #study says rare gene variants might be the reason some of us are ‘southpaws’.

The TUBB4B #gene is involved in controlling the shape of cells and is almost three times more common in the left-handed. It may play a role in the development of the brain asymmetry that underlies the determination of a dominant hand.

Neurobiologist Clyde Francks of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in the Netherlands is the senior author of the study published in the journal Nature Communications.
