A Holiday Concept, New Jeep® Vacationeer Concept

  • last month
Jeep's Grand Wagoneer goes into time-out mode with a carbon-fiber pop-up tent on its roof that's both climate-controlled and solar-powered, and big enough for two people. You can get up there via an exterior staircase, but you can also do so from the inside, as the Vacationeer's interior lacks the customary second and third rows, and the sunroof has been removed and replaced with a weatherproof pass-through. Stepping in can also be used as a small table.

The old Grand Wagoneer was known for its wood-grain sides, and designers gave a nod to that by putting a stripe over the "Spearminted" paint. They reverted to early models carrying only thin strips rather than the wide panels that came later; and Vacationeer's has a 3D wood texture. Wheel openings were widened and special flares were added to clear 35-inch mud terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels.

With only two seats to upholster, Jeep called on fashion designer Kiel James Patrick to do it using a custom plaid fabric that features both modern and vintage tiny Jeeps.

Of course, these four are just concepts, but depending on the reception they get on the Safari, it's possible that at least some of their features or design cues will make their way into the accessories catalog, or even into the showroom one day.
