China Bans Intel and AMD Processors in Government Computers
  • 28 days ago
China has introduced new guidelines banning US processors from Intel and AMD in government computers and servers. The rules also block Microsoft Windows and foreign database products, favoring domestic solutions. Approved domestic replacements include chips from Huawei and Phytium. China accounted for 27% of Intel's sales and 15% of AMD's revenue last year. It's not clear how much is government vs private sector use of these chips. Last year China prohibited Micron chips in critical infrastructure. The US has banned a wide range of Chinese companies and restricted sales of chips.
