Coordinate geometry teaches us the location of a point on a plane. For example, the coordinates of a point are (x, y), where x-coordinate (abscissa) denotes the distance of a point from the y-axis and y-coordinate (ordinate) denotes the distance of the point from the x-axis.
Slope-intercept form (y=mx+b) of linear equations highlights the slope (m) and the y-intercept (b) of a line.
The slope of a line is a measure of its steepness. Mathematically, slope is calculated as "rise over run" (change in y divided by change in x).
Equation of parabola, The general equation of a parabola is: y = a(x-h)2 + k or x = a(y-k)2 +h, where (h,k) denotes the vertex. The standard equation of a regular parabola is y2 = 4ax.
Equation of Circle, the general equation of a circle is (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2, where (h, k) represents the location of the circle's center, and r represents the length of its radius.
Equation of hyperbola, Standard equation of the hyperbola is [(x2/a2) – (y2/b2)] = 1, where the X-axis is the transverse axis and the Y-axis is the conjugate axis. Furthermore, another standard equation of the hyperbola is [(y2/a2)- (x2/b2)] = 1, where the Y-axis is the transverse axis and the X-axis is the conjugate axis.
Equation of ellipse, An ellipse is the locus of all those points in a plane such that the sum of their distances from two fixed points in the plane, is constant.
