Ohtani picks up two hits, first RBI in winning debut

The Sho is underway. Shohei Ohtani filled up the box score as he made his Dodgers debut today against the Padres in Game 1 of the Seoul Series at the Gocheok SkyDome in Korea.

Ohtani’s much-anticipated beginning featured strength and speed. He clocked a pitch at 112.3 mph for a third-inning single, his first hit with his new club. He followed that quickly -- literally -- with his first stolen base in Dodger blue.

The two-time unanimous AL MVP capped his first game of the season with an RBI single in the eighth that brought home the final run in Los Angeles’ 5-2 victory.

Here is a recap of what happened in each of Ohtani’s first five at-bats of the 2024 regular season.
The Dodgers entered the eighth trailing, 2-1, but then strung together three run-scoring plays -- a sacrifice fly, a fielding error thanks to a broken glove and a Mookie Betts RBI single -- to jump in front. That set the stage for Ohtani. The first pitch he saw from Morejon was a 98 mph sinker off the inside corner, but Ohtani muscled it into center field for a single and his first Dodgers RBI. The knock scored Gavin Lux and gave Los Angeles a 5-2 advantage.
