Group Calls for Wider Protections Around Galapagos Under U.N. High Seas Treaty

Scientists and environmental activists are calling on the world to expand ocean conservation to international waters by ratifying the recently adopted U.N. High Seas Treaty. It comes after scientists in the Galapagos Islands demonstrated that migration patterns still bring some of the islands' 3,000 marine species into contact with industrial fishing fleets operating just outside the Galapagos reserve's borders.
