Biden Calls for Housing Affordability Solutions in State of the Union Address
  • 2 months ago
President Biden highlighted plans to help Americans with housing affordability challenges like high rents and mortgage rates in his State of the Union address. He called on Congress to pass a tax credit of $400/month for two years for first-time homebuyers to reduce their mortgage rates by over 1.5 percentage points. Biden also wants to build and renovate over 2 million affordable homes through legislation to increase the housing supply and bring down sky-high rents. A White House "strike force" will also work to curb unfair rent increases and other practices driving up housing costs by corporate landlords.
