A new luxury entertainment trailer is ready to dazzle. Its name is Rivet and it comes from a company called Bowlus that traces its heritage back to the 1930s. Priced in the six figures, this vehicle offers plenty of high-end features and some interesting off-road and remote control capabilities.
The original Bowlus brand launched in 1934 as the brainchild of the same visionary man who designed the world-famous Spirit of St. Louis aircraft. It ceased operations in 1936, but in 2014 a wealthy couple from Canada purchased the trademarks, resulting in a new range of Bowlus trailers. Today, it is expanding into the Rivet, the third model from its two existing model lines.
“The Rivet is Bowlus' most durable travel trailer and is completely different from the existing range,” says the brand. In reality, the Rivet looks largely the same as its sister models, Voterra and Terra Firma. Like Terra Firma, it has an 8 kWh battery and a layout that will be very familiar to existing Bowlus owners.
The major differences appear to be in a few specific areas. First, the Rivet has a three-inch lift kit and off-road tires so it can go off-road easier. Secondly, the Rivet also loses some of the storage space found in other models. Finally, the Rivet is available with up to 660 Watts of solar power, which is more than both of its sister trailers.
It measures 25'3" while the other two trailers measure 27'2" and has a GVWR of 3,500 pounds instead of 4,000 pounds for the others in the family. Notably, the Rivet is the only one of three products to feature Bowlus' new AeroMove technology, which allows the trailer to move, turn, and even parallel park on its own via remote control.
Bowlus says it can even climb “steep hills” and make 360-degree tank turns.
However, after some research, it becomes clear that the cost before options is $165,000. Still, the Rivet looks like a screaming deal compared to Terra Firma ($285,000 before options) and Volterra ($310,000 before options).
