Jurgen Klopp had a wholesome reaction as he prepared to bring on Trey Nyoni in a history-making substitution on Wednesday night.

Klopp watched on as his side triumphed 3-0 over Southampton in their FA Cup fifth-round clash - with Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas finding the net to wrap up a win.

Several Liverpool's youngsters were given a run out at Anfield - given the Reds' mounting injury concerns - with 16-year-old Nyoni included amongst them.

Nyoni was brought into the action in the 78th minute and, in doing so, became the youngest player to ever feature in the FA Cup for Liverpool.

You could tell it was a big moment, not only for Nyoni but also for Klopp, who had a wide grin drawn across his face as he prepared to bring the youngster on.

Footage from ITV's broadcast showed Klopp placing an arm around the teenager, laughing and patting him on the back before Nyoni entered the pitch.

At 16 years, eight months, and eight days, Nyoni beat the record held by Harvey Elliott - who was the player he replaced on the night.

Elliott had previously held the record after making an appearance in their 2020 FA Cup win over Everton when he was 16 years, nine months, and one day old.

Afterwards, Liverpool boss Klopp compared Liverpool's young team with darts World Championship runner-up Luke Littler.

'It is a little bit like the new darts sensation, it is fine for tonight,' said Klopp.

'Tomorrow, leave the boys in the corner. Everyone who is with us should have our moments, they will have more moments than we expect.

'Don't forget it when the transfer window opens, don't (ask for) 12 signings!'

Elsewhere on the night, fellow youngster Jayden Danns scored a brace before describing the occasion as a dream come true.

Speaking to ITV afterward, Danns said: 'It's a dream come true, I've supported the club since birth so to come on and score at the Kop end was unreal.

'It doesn't feel real to me, it feels like I'm in a movie. I don't think I'll sleep tonight!'

Danns went on to reflect on his two goals, as he said: 'It was this lad [Elliott] who slipped me in, I saw him and thought he's got the vision and the 'keeper came close, so you just have to drink it.
