The Inspiration behind this video:
The first major detail about Constantine 2 is that it will be an Elseworlds movie, meaning Reeves' version of the character will not be part of James Gunn's new DC Universe. Gunn's Elseworlds comments have also raised the bar for Constantine 2. According to the DCU's creative chief, "It's got to be something really special for us to tell that story outside of our regular continuity, and to spend the money on it to make it." Given how development continues on Constantine 2, it seems like the movie has a good chance of being something special.
Constantine 2 will also be a truly R-rated movie. While the original Constantine received an R rating, director Francis Lawrence has revealed that the film was initially developed as a PG-13 film due to the studio's request, not making the most of the darker tone that would have benefited Constantine. With creative freedom and no need to have the larger DCU in mind, Constantine 2 can give Reeves the dark supernatural story that he deserves.
