Kyle Walker was booked for clattering into Neal Maupay in the second half of Man City's clash, with Brentford at the Eithad on Tuesday evening just weeks, after the pair clashed in a heated verbal exchange.

Maupay was welcomed onto the pitch by resounding boos from City fans and bore the brunt of a heavy tackle from Walker in the 82nd minute.

City's Treble-winning star smashed into Maupay following a loose ball and was subsequently booked by referee Darren England when the hosts were leading 1-0.

Maupay and Walker previously clashed on February 5 during City's 3-1 win over the Bees as the England international accused the Brentford player of talking about his family.

The Brentford striker has become one of the English top-flight's biggest wind-up merchants having previously clashed with James Maddison in Brentford's defeat to Tottenham at the end of January as well.

Maupay strenuously denied that he had attempted to rile Walker by talking about the City full-back's family and children during their on-pitch engagement.

An expert lip reader at the time revealed to Mail Sport that Walker had told the fourth official at the Gtech Community Stadium that he was going to 'knock out' Maupay.

The England international continued his rant, saying: 'Ref he spoke about my kids, he spoke about my kids, not once, but twice.'

The previous confrontation came at a time when Walker's personal life was the subject of intense discussion after he revealed he had fathered a second child from an affair with model Lauryn Goodman.

He had already fathered a son, three-year-old Kairo, with Lauryn following an earlier separation from Annie Kilner in 2020.

In a rare interview about his personal life, Kyle was close to tears as he reflected on moving away from their family home in Cheshire and spending enforced time away from his three children with Annie, who is currently pregnant with their fourth.

He told The Sun: 'What I’ve done is horrible and I take full responsibility. I made idiot choices and idiot decisions. I can’t begin to think or imagine what Annie is going through.'

Maupay's Brentford team-mate Ivan Toney warned in the build-up to Tuesday evening's match at the Etihad that the pair were ready to 'rattle' Pep Guardiola's side.

'Playing up front with him is interesting. We both know what we need to do to win, and we both know what we need to do to rattle people, to get in people's heads, and to help win games,' he told the Evening Standard.
